- Lyrics:
Away, away, come away with me
Where the grass grows wild and the winds blow free
Away, away, come away with me
And I'll build you a home in the meadow
Come, come, there's a wondrous land
For the hopeful heart and the willing hand
Come, come, there's a wondrous land
Where I'll build you a home in the meadow
The stars, the stars, oh how bright they'll shine
On a world the lord himself designed
The stars, the stars, oh how bright they'll shine
On the home we will build in the meadow
Come, come, there's a wondrous land
For the hopeful heart and the willing hand
Come, come, there's a wondrous land
Where I'll build you a home in the meadow
Oh my goodness, I can't believe I'm tearing up like this. I read the comments thinking, "I didn't cry when I saw the movie." This ain't like the movie.
Bless Debbie and may all of you kind-hearted listeners find your own peaceful place.🕊️
I'm 58 and it still brings tears,.In loving memory of my father that always dreamed of that home in the meadow. RIP daddy, now you're in that meadow.

I’m 67 and heard this when I saw the film. Always made me feel what was good about America
This is one of those songs that the first time you hear it, you will never forget it.
I'm 63 and it still brings tears, but the good type of tears.
Me, too. I'd like this played at my funeral
It's always good to shed tears of happiness

me 58.. yeah can't stop tears..
Love this song. It takes you back in time to the wild, wild, west.
Our history teacher took us to see the movie How The West Was Won when it came out. I teared up during this song and still do decades later. I always watch the movie over again when it comes on TV, even though it's 4 hours long.... such an awesome movie! ♥♥
Me too
how the west was won and Debbie Reynolds in that film are perfect!
I am 19 right now and I remember my parents watching this movie with me when I was ten and this song will never leave my mind
A complete version of this great song, sung by Miss Reyonlds herself! I can't believe my good fortune!!!
Saw the movie in Cinerama in 62 and fell in love with beautiful Debbie RIP
This song never left my heart from when I was younger and hearing it now sounds just as amazing as the first time I heard it. ❤️
Perhaps just me but Debbie Reynolds in this song and her youth had an angelic voice. This was a great match to her voice and tune. Love this song (green sleeves) with her vocals. Great Grand Dame and God's peace to her. I so wish Her as in Hamlet Prince of Demark "may flights of angels...sing thee to thy rest". Christ's Peace to all.
NO one can do this anymore....a great song, from a beautiful movie...they don't make 'em like this now...
t
i was about 9 or 10 when i saw this wonderful movie. wow what cast. i am now 60 never forgot this movie.
Right. They don't make 'em or sing like this now a days. Everything is pretty much garbage.
This film was a part of Hollywood's golden age, and it, and the song, was iconic and timeless.
One of the best..who cannot be touched by this.
Movie marked just about the end of the line for Old Hollywood....so many of those great actors and actresses, old, even then. It was and is, a fitting tribute to the talent and commitment of everyone involved to deliver this Indian Summer of a movie.
A timeless song that's true for every individual born on this Earth .... a Home of our own
Debbie, you were great - as a singer. As an actress. As a lady!
Great actress, Great singer, and Great Woman... R.i.P Great Debbie and I love You so much !!!
Sung Beautifully with great emotion! RIP
Debbie Reynolds. Angelic voice..
Incredibly Moving.
How life has changed.
A time we will never experience again.
😪😪😪....
What a beautiful song and only Debbie Reynolds pegs this one. I used to think The Unsinkable Molly Brown was my favorite of Ms. Reynolds but after watching How The West Was Won....I think it pegs her better. Miss you already and your fun, lovable and unfiltered Carrie. Peace to all.
May she rest in peace,,she is back with Carrie now. No one sang this song any better than her.
very very true very sad day
When I was about 10 or 11 yrs young my dad took me to see the Cinerama movie How The West Was Won and I never had been to a Cinerama movie before..But when she sang the song (a home in the meadow) I had never seen so many people get teary eyed in my life. You just never get things like that out of your mind. I do still love that movie today and that song I play on here a lot.Thankyou UA-cam for this.
yes, the same. That was the first movie I had ever laid eyes on her beauty. I was a little boy and she made such an impression on me. For some reason this song made me cry in the movie, sentimental and cried at the end of the movie I believe her character had aged and died. She had the softest, smoothest singing voice that just flowed.
actually, she doesn't die at the end.
I was 12 yrs. old and saw it with my family at the drive-in. very memorable movie( of course, it didn't paint the native americans in a good light). still, debbie Reynolds was the standout of the movie.
I remember watching How The West Was Won when I was a youngster. That movie and this song caused me to have a huge crush on the very beautiful Debbie Reynolds. When I watch her sing this heart felt song in the movie even today it seems to lift me up, gives my heart hope and a true sense of everything being ok. Thank you Debbie Reynolds as not many things make me feel these emotions like this song does. God bless you!
Me too with the Crush........D.
Just heard this song on the move HTWWW. It immediately caught my attention. A very beautiful song and Debbie Reynolds sings it so beautifully.
me too
I remember seeing How the West was Won when l was a senior in High School. That was the first time that l heard this song and it has always been heart filling.
so sad for our loss to this singing angel rest in peace legends dont die just live on & on
I saw the movie with my grandpa, dad, and brother in 1962 on K-street mall Sacramento. I was 6 years old and this song will forever be on the top of my list. How the West Was Won.
With all the stars in this brilliant movie, I always thought Debbie Reynolds performance really stood out
Unlike most of the stars in this long movie Debbie was in it from start to finish.
A classic, timeless Western Movie Song. So lovely, so charming - with
DEBBIE's tender voice full of feelings and desires. Absolutely Lindissima!
Thanks a lot for uploading. - (KN--09/24-2023)
This song rates right up with Tammy sung by Debbie Reynolds. A very special little lady have always enjoyed her entertainment.
+Clarence Milton Stanfield agreed!!!
Clarence Milton Stanfield I disagree with you because she wasn't a lovely little lady she was a little princess
Debbie Reynolds a very talented lady with a beautiful voice. She is still singing and has such stage presence.
agreed.
my mother use to sing this to me and iv been trying to find this for so long im happy i finally found it :)
This music is wonderful, very wonderful ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Find myself revisiting songs like this from the score of the great Cinerama 19062 film, How the West Was Won.......Saw in the theater with my family , & it is iconic to me, D. re- 1962.
Something about this songs gives me goose bumps every time i hear it and i don't know WHY. Just like watchimg a movie where a man rides off in sunset.. It makes my heart ache for some reason. I must have lived back then
I was a young boy when this came out ! I'm still in love with her! I 66 now but what a wonderful time to take me back to those dreams!
The most beautiful song I’ve ever heard. Period.
Beautiful song. I LOVE IT!!!
Magic Song, Magic Voice, Geat Debbie 💞💞💞💞💞
Beautiful . Debbie, The Song, Everything. I met Debbie once , In my Heart. She has stayed there with me ever since .
Thank You, Debbie Reynolds. You were wonderful and will never be forgotten by your fans.
Geht einem ans Herz, Himmlisch und traurig zugleich. Hab den Film in den 70ger Jahren mit meinen Eltern angesehen.
Unvergessen auch der Song. 💖
Wonderful song from a great movie. We will miss you and your daughter.
This was and still is one of my all time favourite movies!
i loved Debbie so much, am still shocked at her passing. Rip dear Debbie. You are loved and will always be remembered. RIP dear lady.
Listen to her sing "Tammy". You'll cry. Then again I'll pull it up and listen and cry for you. What an amazing voice. Miss you Debbie!
wtf? who's gonna cry over that schmaltz? get hold of yourself ferchrissakes!!
@@BernardProfitendieu Till the day I'll day I'll tear up while listening to Debbie Reynolds sing Tammy and "A Home in the Meadow". Our teacher took us to see the movie in grade school. This song is why I never forgot one moment of the film. So many stars so many mini stories but Debbie singing the song on the riverboat made the movie stay with me.
Lady Reynolds is the mother of the Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher). The original of this song, from the movie "How the West Was Won" (1962), is the famous traditional English folk song "Greensleeves" (1580).
+Thierry Vandeportaele
The original is really, "My Lady Greensleeves", or, "Lady Greensleeves."
@@johnsanford6406 Sometimes credited to Henry VIII as the writer - although that is doubtful.
"Greensleeves" tune was the basis for this song in 1962 for "How The West Was Won".
La romanesca . xvi century italian anonymous, actually.
@@citipol Heard it in the 1960s....Didn’t hear again till 1990s
Glad I found it....also same music as “What Child Is This”
My mother used to sing this song when I was a young I remember the movie I'm 63 now and live in Northwest Wyoming in the country.
Love this song and what it tells about.
My mother used to sing this song to me as a child. Oh YES I do remember, always...
A wonderful song from a truly wonderful film sang by a truly wonderful classy lady from a time when you were moved by certain songs and certain people sadly that has faded to darkness now
there's two new stars in the sky tonight--Debbie and Carrie lovely song
I disregard the trolls and the gibberish that abounds on youtube. Debbie sang wonderfully and thank you for posting. I saw a revival of "How The West Was Won" some years ago in Hollywood, in Cinerama, and it was truly one of a kind, old school and all. Legendary film making.
drbombay91765 I agree
drbombay91765 spectacular film
I wd carry the song into my next birth
I would carry the tune into my next birth!
Found this song while reading the Louis L’Amour version of How the West was Won. Got my wife’s late great grandpa’s LL book collection
I saw the movie on TV with my with my parents it was great movie and loved the part Debbie Reynolds played
I always loved this part of the film. Always had a soft spot for Debbie Reynolds. The main theme of the film is also superb. I used to think it a great film.
I love the movie
The Best Western of all times
Thank you for posting this song - I've been hunting this song for a very long time.
An anthem to the American spirit. With hard work and ingenuity we are forever.
Una canzone bellissima cantata da una bellissima e bravissima Debbie Reynolds in un film magnifico che non si può dimenticare.
whaw!!!another of my favourites.
Essa música é de mais faz qualquer ser chorar,e lembrar do filme Conquista do Oeste.
I will always treasure that night in 1964 when the whole family watched "How the West Was Won" at Manila's Cinerama. I was 9 years old.
I'm 70 ,this still make me cry
Totes sample Green Sleeves here.... still magnificent.
Fabulous bring tears to my eyes
I like this
Mi piace questa canzone ..Dal film "How The West Was Won "
A voice like sugar!
Actually, must agree with the comment above...this should be the American national anthem! And I'm English! What a beautiful song. And Debbie is astonishing in the film which it was sung: HOW THE WEST WAS WON. Her scenes with Robert Preston are heart wrenching in my opinion. Kevin Costner became an actor on the strength of Jimmy Stewart's performance in the film but Debbie & Carroll Baker & George Peppard were equally strong - with a narration by Spencer Tracy touched by god of course..!
it was a VERY memorable movie. i saw it,as a kid, with my family ,at a drive in theater. top notch performances by many of the all-star cast. and,IMO, debbie reynolds was at her finest here, and really MADE this movie; if you know what i mean. great singing, acting, and in her prime, in the looks department.
RIP Debbie. You are loved.
A true Lady.. This is making me cry.
oh boo hoo hoo!
Great actress and singer miss her and the old days when i was a young kid in the 60s. Singing in the rain, tammy and the bachelor...and all the other great actors deano...frank...john...haley mills...jimmy Stewart...they dont make them like that anymore. Back when people actually respected one another.
Rest in Peace, Debbie.
Lovely ... just lovely. xxx
A beautiful song.

"THE PASSING OF DEBBIE REYNOLDS:
This is Pastor Mike again. I just heard that Debbie Reynolds passed away today, just one day after her daughter, Carrie Fisher. The timing of these events are truly tragic and I am once again saddened by the news. May she and Carrie Rest in Peace. One of my favorite movies is, "Tammy and the Bachelor" (1957, Universal Studios). She was one of the greats. My condolences to the family, who will be going through a very difficult time.
Well, I'll add to what I've already said, the LORD sends more strength to those who are going through extraordinarily trying times. Life, with its challenges, pain, and tragedy, standing opposed to its triumphs, joys, and accomplishments, gives us the full spectrum of human experience. In this balance of living reality, GOD stands as the great comforter and restorer of hope. The Scripures tell us that one day all our tears will be wiped away. Let us join those who look forward to that most welcome future.
Pastor Michel (Mike) Benjamins, Jr. 12-28-16 @ 6:47 P.M."
The following is what I wrote the day before:
"Hello folks. I was saddened to hear that Carrie Fisher passed away. I didn't see that one coming. Of course I'm a Star Wars fan and I certainly remember long lines at the theater to see the first installments of it. I was shocked to find out that Darth Vader was Luke Skywalker's father, thinking,... that just can't be true!
The Bible tells us that there is a time to be born, a time to live your life, a time to laugh, a time to weep, and a time to pass away. I believe and I tell others that these things are only the steps we must take under the Great Heavens and the strong and all-knowing Hand of GOD.
We are fortunate indeed to have known people who have somehow touched our lives for the better. Let them live on in our memories and trust that GOD has the situation well in hand.
Take care, Best Wishes, and, for Believers, GOD Bless. Pastor Michel (Mike) Benjamins, Jr. 12-27-16 @ 10:53 P.M. (nearing the close of the Year of Our LORD, 2016)."
my grandma use to sing this song to me while i sat with her on her rocker❤️
I love her voice in singing this song just love it. I wonder what it would sound like with
Ms. Mary J. Blige or
Madam Ms. Patty LaBelle singing such a beautiful song. Ms. Reynolds forever in my heart in singing this song with your beauty and grace.
Renegade 101st.
P. S. A true love song!!!
Be at peace, Debbie.
Daughter Speaking: I just watched this last night, I'm only 14 but...this makes me think of my Mom. Hope she's okay up there..
Well, This is a beautiful melody, a wondrous song, impressed me for quite a long time when I watched 'How the West was won'.
L'ai vu à sa sortie au grand Rex avec mes parents j'avais 6 ans ...j'ai été bouleversée par cette chanson...
Et ce film à grand spectacle pour l'époque avec des effets spéciaux extraordinaires....
I believe what I have just hered. Absolutely glorious.
Love this song --It's the words to Greensleaves.
Yes but the GreenSleeves version is King Arthur reference to his wife cheating on him Sir Lancelot.
A true anthem for the American spirit.
The voice, the words and music touch the heart, pity !
TOTALLY, HEART PENETRATING HEAVENLY SONG.... THIS SONG IS FORCING MIND TO FORGET ALL... HEARD THIS SONG ON ANTIQUE VINTAGE COLUMBIA RADIO MODEL 1235 ....!!!
Sometimes dream of this garden. Would stay there, but we have things to do.
Good bye Mrs. Day. Rest in peace .
Debbie Reynolds = Class Act
your sarcasm is delicious!!
Just takes my breath away Glorious
This is my father’s favorite song…though he always said it made him sad. I’m about to play it for him for the last time before we have to pull the plug. This is the saddest song in the world to me now and the worst day of my life. I miss you already Papa. Aloha! See you in the next one. 💔
I agree. I love this song since I first heard it many years ago. Greetings from another side of the Atlantic Ocean!!
Deb....How I've loved you all my life.....long story
Oh so sweet.
Here’s the correct lyrics:
Away, away, come away with me
Where the grass grows wild and the winds blow free
Away, away, come away with me
And I'll build you a home in the meadow
Come, come, there's a wondrous land
For the hopeful heart for the willing hand
Come, come, there's a wondrous land
Where I'll build you a home in the meadow
The stars, the stars, oh, how bright they'll shine
On a world the Lord must have helped design
The stars, the stars, oh, how bright they'll shine
On the home we will build in the meadow
Come, come, there's a wondrous land
For the hopeful heart for the willing hand
Come, come, there's a wondrous land
Where I'll build you a home in the meadow
Strange, I thought she sang it just fine. But then I'am not a fuss bugget.
Poignant..... Sad......Happy... for all time...
Reminds me of Rowena my wife ... and Barry ......Worked so hard...... We made a life together............
My favorite melody is Greensleeves, upon which this song is based. They just changed the lyrics for the movie. Song dates back to Medieval times. Music is timeless.
Alas, my love, you do me wrong,
To cast me off so discourteously,
For I have loved you so long,
Delighting in your company.
Greensleeves was my heart's desire
Greensleeves was my delight,
Greensleeves was my heart of gold,
And who but my lady, Greensleeves.
It is said to have been Henry VIII's love song to Anne Boelyn.
Schönes Lied und sehr guter Film.
Bellissima
I would give anything to have been born in those days. A new land awaiting those who were willing to work hard to wrest a living from it. The challenges were of a kind not seen today. The views to the future weren't of global disaster but of hope. To have built a home on land of your own from the ground up not stolen from others is only a fantasy now. I live in Spokane Washington, U.S.A. The land here was stolen from the indigenous people. I am sorry for that and wish that it was otherwise. Still, to have been here and to to have seen this land, so long ago...
agree 100%
My ancestors actually moved and lived in the Wild West. They, and their children, lived long lives and their children were my Great Grandparents. They were many hardships including grinding poverty but they were indeed an optimistic people.
So why don't you give "your" stolen land back to the indigenous people? With interest and reparation money.
David H the natives should have fought harder
David H to the victors go the spoils.
That would be a good song to do for funerals. It would be so soothing to the families and friends that lost a loved 1
