- The lyrics (by Sammy Cahn) were written for the movie "How The West Was Won" (1962), originally sung by Debbie Reynolds.
From the album "New Echoes Of The Old West"; Harve Presnell is accompanied by Geoff Love and his Orchestra & The Lisa Grey Singers.
Away, Away
Come away with me
Where the grass grows wild, where the winds blow free
Away, Away
Come away with me
And I'll build you a home in the meadow
Come, Come
There's a wondrous land
For the hopeful heart, for the willing hand
Come, Come
There's a wondrous land
Where I'll build you a home in the meadow
The hills! The hills! Look beyond the hills,
there are rivers wide, there are whip-poor-wills
The hills! The hills! Look beyond the hills,
To that home we will build in the meadow.
Come, Come
There's a wondrous land
For the hopeful heart, for the willing hand
Come, Come
There's a wondrous land
Where I'll build you a home in the meadow
The stars, the stars
Oh how bright they'll shine
On a world the Lord must have helped design
The stars, the stars
Oh how bright they'll shine
On that home we will build in the meadow
Come, Come
There's a wondrous land
For the hopeful heart, for the willing hand
Come, Come
There's a wondrous land
Where I'll build you a home in the meadow.
It is always wonderful for me, to hear Harves`s clean, melodious baritone voice . This song is masterfully performed by him.
The voice, yes, but the passion behind it, once in a lifetime.
What a wonderful voice.
Listen to Harve sing They Call the Wind Mariah. It will give you chills.
God, what a voice!
Then you should listen to this as well: Like you said, WHAT A VOICE! ua-cam.com/video/ByqYEzugleE/v-deo.html
I second that
I agree love him way better than Howard keel who got all the roles
Loved him in the Cohen Bros.' film "Fargo". Wonderful actor who could sing. Right up there with Richard Kiley.
he had no lessons...just a God given Angel voice.
He attended the University of Southern California, earning a bachelor's degree in vocal performance
He had a great voice....shame he never became a big star.
To me he was!
The hills the hills look beyond he hills , there are rivers wide , there are wippoorwills , the hills the hillls , look beyond the hills , to the home we will buid in the meadow ...
One of my favorite songs (as sung by Debbie Reynolds) - now my favorite because of this. Thank you.
One of my all time favourite song 🎼🕺
What a voice. And such a beautiful melody and words!
Cuanta felicidad nos dio de niños y de mayores esta extraordinaria película ❤ y este tema musical en particular
Just magic beautiful
As I posted in previous videos it's astonishing this man wasn't the biggest thing going. Why? What is there lacking? He had the physical look of a young Howard Keel with a similar tone but light years better! His voice makes Gordon McRae, Howard Keel and other more established stars sound like a cat with a nail in its paw. The only other parallel I can think of is Enzio Pinza performing Some Enchanted Evening. Neither of these men reached the heights they should have scaled. They were simply better.
Harve was the total package! He had the voice, the talent and the good looks!
Harve had an amazing voice, he was handsome and he could act. I can't imagine why he didn't enjoy more success. But I love Gordon MacRae, Ezio Pinza could sing opera and anything else he desired. What a voice.
Was watching this old movie on TV today and heard this song when I was a little girl. Im so glad I hv the lyrics and song now. Thank you.
I want this at my funeral
See him in the Unsinkable Molly Brown wonderful music in it.
I have never heard of him or this version, what a great voice
You probably do know him he was Rotten Luck Willie in Paint Your Wagon!😊
Grew up in Modesto, CA
Be sure to watch UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN. It is his masterpiece (with Debbie Reynolds) -- great acting and great singing (and gerat story)
Such a beautiful, great talent!
Always did like his version of this. Boy that takes you back!
A great performer
Thank you for posting this beautiful song. I have not heard it since the early 1970s. What a wonderful voice Harv Presnell has.
Awesome tribute to Mr. Presnell. Thanks for this upload. :)
I never knew Harve to have such a voice!! It isn't that I'm musically ignorant( film, theatre, pop, opera). Where have I been? His rendition of They call the Wind Miraha is really something.
Harve Presnell was a trained opera singer, known for for his appearances in musicals like " the unsinkable Molly Brown" ( more than 500 appearances) ," Annie" ( moret than 2300 appearances) and other musicals. He has been one of the most famous opera singers for decades . His sonorous baritone voice was legendary.
Rotten Luck Willie
So,
So, So, beautiful to listening to and I love it
Can't help but notice how much young Harve favored Ron White.
Wonderfull !!!
Thank You Ami Yarimi for post this wonder with their lyrics!
As a thank you, I am posting the lyrics translated into Brazilian Portuguese, my country!
UMA CASA NO PRADO
Longe, longe
Venha embora comigo
Onde a grama cresce selvagem, onde os ventos sopram livremente
Longe, longe
Venha embora comigo
E eu vou construir uma casa para você no prado
Vem vem
Há uma terra maravilhosa
Para o coração esperançoso, para a mão disposta
Vem vem
Há uma terra maravilhosa
Onde eu vou construir uma casa para você no prado
As colinas! As colinas! Olhe além das colinas,
há rios largos, há coitados
As colinas! As colinas! Olhe além das colinas,
Para essa casa vamos construir no prado.
Vem vem
Há uma terra maravilhosa
Para o coração esperançoso, para a mão disposta
Vem vem
Há uma terra maravilhosa
Onde eu vou construir uma casa para você no prado
As estrelas, as estrelas
Oh quão brilhante eles vão brilhar
Em um mundo que o Senhor deve ter ajudado a projetar
As estrelas, as estrelas
Oh quão brilhante eles vão brilhar
Naquela casa vamos construir no prado
Vem vem
Há uma terra maravilhosa
Para o coração esperançoso, para a mão disposta
Vem vem
Há uma terra maravilhosa
Onde eu vou construir uma casa para você no prado.
Onde eu vou construir uma casa para você no prado.
I wish there was a Frankie Laine version of this song
I was born way too late
All these years behind me. I now recognize that that it isn't the song music, the lyrics nor the arrangement except the part with chorus which is too long and overpowering. Nashville did the same thing at the same time and many songs opened with what sounded like the soprano rehearsal tract. There's never a need to cover Harve Presnell's voice.
נפלא

I didn't know that Wade Gustafson was so romantic soul in his young age. What was happened, that his end was so tragic and grotesque ? 😉
~Debbie Reynolds version of it too. -from ALL STAR cast How the West Was Won +god I got tired of seeing all those White folk.. Unsinkable Molly Brown -Kathy Bates played real person in Titanic. Went with daughter Carrie.
You must be a true Debbie Reynolds fan. Me too.
All those white folk were even MORE tired of your sorry, bigoted ass
