I remember playing FF4 on high volume while my friend was lying on the floor by the tv with a miserable hangover. And this tune was bugging the hell out of him. Haha.
This is the scene that amazed me the most as a kid. A giant robot in a fantasy world of knights, wizards, dragons, monsters, and magic? FFIV was definitely a cut above the rest, and still is. The music for the giant (and the moon's crystalline interior heading to the final boss) is just incredible. It really has a mechanical feel to it while also being mysterious and hopeful. It really tells you that you're on your way to stop the true antagonist.
Couldn't have said it better, I always thought FFIV was the most "Fantasy" of the Final Fantasy games, it had everything you could ever want out of the genre in the 90s.
I couldn't believe it the first time I played it. %90 of the game is medieval fantasy with kingdoms, castles, knights and wizards. Then, all of a sudden, there's a spaceship, a genocidal mecha and a man on the moon who's been manipulating events to his own ends since the start of the game, with no hint that he even exists.
The mood this track conveys is just a culmination of the trials, triumphs, and defeats along the journey. In the Giant of Babel, you fight to stop a world-ending threat. In the Passageway to the Core, you're fighting boss-level encounters, all with attacks that can decimate the party. Yet you press onwards, knowing everything depends on you overcoming odds stacked against you.
Fun fact: During the making of FFIV for the Super Famicon, he happened to look at a game called Actraiser I, after he heard some songs, he was completely astound on how the Super Famicom could ever sound like that, so guess what happens next?, He goes back to the drawing board and further improve FFIV music in general, inspired/influenced to further improve his work by the man: Yuzo Koshiro himself, Nobou Uematsu owes great debt to Mr. Koshiro san, there is an interview about this, search for it..
This is the song for final dungeon. The shame is that after ff4, the final dungeon’s songs are all sound lame. Good final dungeon’s songs are only in FF2, 3, 4.

@@Zanarkendjp I didn’t play FF14 so I didn’t know. Among what you typed only FF14 sounds good. The rest of them cannot be compared to FF 2, 3, 4 final dungeons.
This track does such a perfect job building up the game's tension into a situation that feels like: "It's either me or you. No matter what happens, I will have given it everything I got." The bassline, lead horn, and hi hat delays are so good. So good.
I clicked the Translation option to read your comment. In the United States, what you called the Four Heavenly Kings was what we called the Four Fiends. It's a little funny to think about!
First time I played this game was back in 1995, as a rental. The copy I rented had a save file that took you all the way to the end of the Lunar Subterrae and into the Core itself. When I heard this music for the first time, I couldn't help but fall in love with this game.
@@excrono - within 2 years, yes, such as Secret of Mana. For the time though, the creators were still working with what they had and it's still regarded as amazing.
It also plays when Cecil's extended group escapes from the core of the True Moon, taking with them the 8 Crystals and Cuore, the last Maenad of the Creator.
“Within the Giant” belongs in Lunar Subterrain 2. The Giant of Babil is not worthy of this song. You are going up against the final boss, but are not afraid, because you fight for your ideals and beliefs, in spite of everyone that has given their lives for them. Their memory is a fire in your heart. Let’s being peace and justice to the world! (Battle sting!!)

So hopeful and determined in the face of despair... One of my favorite final dungeon themes ever.

Just played it on the remaster. I loved the remastered version. I can’t imagine playing it without a boost. Early ff titles loved status effect
I’m in my mid 30s so ff7 was my 2:25 1st final fantasy as a grade school kid

The giant of Babil served as inspiration for the Alexander summon, mainly because of his signature attack: Divine Judgement.
