- Опубліковано 6 жов 2024
- Detailed Video of the L.parahybana. I also cover the L.difficilis and L.klugi (since they are similar species that can be cared the same). It also applies to L.itabunae,L.fracta, L.striatus and L.striatipes
Love this video, very informative, excellent format, thank-you!
Wow, everything I was looking for in a video about a spider. Been a snake handler for many years and wanted to try out the other side of the coin and been hesitant for a long time. Props for actually making a video that I watched for the full 15 min.
u give such great info, u have really helped me in trying to choose a new family member, now just trying to convince my husband and boys...thanks so much, yours, jen...
Love your vids Jon
I just got my first T 2 weeks ago ( Brachypelma boehmei) She is called Mitzy :)
Grat to have people like you with advice and videos >
Many thanks from Manchester UK
cute name :)
Awesome video, man. I've got a Mexican red knee, a GBB, a pink toe, and just got a salmon pink sling yesterday at a local reptile show for ten dollars. It was between the salmon pink, an OBT, or a sun tiger. I decided against the sun tiger because I don't currently have a free arboreal tank for it. I decided against the OBT once I found the salmon pink, I've been wanting a bird eater for a while now. Keep up the good work, man.
Hi jon sweet vid as always.A great breakdown of the Lasiodora Para Tarantula.You inspier me man.I have 4 t's at the momment but plan to but a few more soon.Keep posting these great vids.
heya Jon i just wanted to say that i completely love your mythbuster videos!
it depends as certain individual have different growth rates and not all of them are the same. If you remember some of my older videos with Daniella, she was a half inch sling in 2009 and she now's 4.5''
Great video.. I"m getting an LP for my first T.. being I won't be handling it at all, I figured its care was something easy enough..and would make great eye candy to watch.
Thank you for uour very informative video. It will help me alot.😁💕
Dude, you're awesome and you have my envy and respect!
@boonhaw13
I really can't say if it's true or not because I never seen a full grown LK before, but all lasiodora are fairly bulky. They all have very subtle difference.
There's more than 3 lasiodora species. There's fracta, itabunae, sp.trinitatus, striatus, stratipes. I only do mythbuster videos of species I already worked with
Might be dark outside but the new color in your room has improved the light a lot, will be painting my walls after new year probably :)
Great vid, considering getting a LP.
I'm having a hard time understanding what you're asking.
Bald spots DO NOT get smaller and smaller. Bald spot only increase when they flick urticating hair, and they regain back lost hair after they molt...this I assume you already know.
Ultimately when Ts molt, they grow LARGER not smaller. The abdomen DOES decrease, and as I mention in numerous videos showing my Ts molt...that is normal. When Ts molt they lose water pressure and their abdomens shrink as a result.
Great video! Very interesting!
I only have one T at the moment, and thats a female L. Klugi ;)
Awsome creature, about 7" ;)
Realy enjoy your videos! Thank you!
I now have 6 1/4 inch spiderlings, and I've been feeding them flightless fruit flies. They seem to prefer those over small crickets.
amazing video man, thanks. i just got my Lasiodora Parahybana. it's my first one but ive been doing my homework on domesticating t's for a while now. hope i have some sort of more familiar contact with you soon, youre of great help.
Very helpful video jon, are you going to do the B. Albopilosum (don't know if I spelled that right) LOL
A cobalt blue vid would also be cool
I just want to throw some love your way. Great vids!! At the moment, I only have thirteen T's. I know...Newb... Anyway Lasiodora P. has been one of the coolest T's to raise. It has molted three times (with amazing growth) in the amount of time my other young old worlds have. i know it"s different for each, but whatever...
not that the lp is old world sorry
Sounds like I might be pickin' one of these guys up, but just not sure if it will be soon. 10-11" sounds a little too big for me to deal with right now, lol.
great vids! fantastic info! Im learning tons from you , man. Question: Im thinking about getting a 1/2" Lasiodora Parahybana from T-Canada. My question is , how fragile are 1/2" slings for LP Salmon Pinks? any tips on raising 1/2" LPs. Thanks.
"If you don't want to pay for an expensive T. Blondi" haha I got my adult female t blondi for $80! She was 8 inches in legspan!!
ReViiVe_Gar have you managed to keep it alive?
Avve N yes actually! I've had her for 2 years and she just molted. She's about 9 inches long now. I love goliaths 'a and recommend them for advanced keepers.
ReViiVe_Gar that's awesome! I want one but I just recently bought a parahybana so I'll wait a bit haha
Avve N cool. I have a para too. They are absolutely beautiful and great eaters. Mine is always out and pretty active. Good luck! This vid has some good tips so listen out for those.
Pablo, check the ingredients of the substrate. If it contains ANY cedar...do not use it. To be on the safe side, I'd use coco fiber instead
I personally am a massive massive fan of the lasiodora family!!
not eating is normal. If he's not shriveled up he's not really dead. I would like to see a pic/video of him
Thank you so much for this video and all your videos for that matter , I just bought an LP sling 4 days ago , it's about an inch in size , I really look forward to seeing it grow , it's eaten 1 pinhead cricket already , my question is how often should I feed it , how fast will it grow?? I know that your a busy guy with all those Ts but thanks for taking the time to read this , cheers from Vancouver B.C.
it sounds to be under 3 months old. in two years, my girl went from 0.5 mm to 15 cm.
I see. Good to know. Thanks, man.
i actully sore an salmon pink birdeater in the museum and it was alive itt was bloody massive i thought like 10inchs would be quite small but god i got a shock when i layed my eyes on her
THANKS. ^^
@11808Clover
it is right. I will eventually do them
my 5 inch Female L.P is pretty chill, a bit skittish but she doesn't kick hairs at all but other than that she's pretty cool.
bite from this species is similar to a wasp/hornet sting
@ultum4tegunz
Like I said in the video, they take 4-5 years to fully grow from 1/2'' to a 10'' adult.
2nd Question is yes. Although its odd that you would ask me such a question given you kept Ts and you've seen this before already
@AleBocao
Unfortunately no. Canada does not have tarantulas. I have to buy them.
@boonhaw13
its hard to save an infected T. ICU with cranked humidity is best. Mites are little white specks that crawl.
nice video jon. my s. cal came today and has already ate a cricket
informative video mate
Hi Jon i love your vids about T's. Can i ask if LP is handable like b.albopilosum? Thanks in advance! Keep making informative vids about tarantulas and dont mind those who hates your post, they just dont appreciate the beauty of arachnids! More powers bro!
LPs are not really handleable. They are a lot more skittish and at times they can be a bit defensive. However it depends on the individual
Hi John. Love all your videos. I currently own 7 Lps around the 2 inch mark. Is it true that in this species their sexes are easy to distinguish by the color of the tarantula. The male being brown and the female being pink?
Hmmm... awesome vid... I heard that Lp's grow bigger than Lk's but Klugi's are bulkier, is that true? Im planning to get Salmon Pink Birdeater because they are so cheap and easy to get. Since u recommend them, i would really wanna get one... But all 3 Laisodoras look the same? only difference is red hair? Nid more clarrification, thanks... =D
Have a T stirmi 7.5' and L parahybana 6' coming this week.
i love your vids
Good to know NOT to feed your T mice!!! (Due to calcium hardening) I never knew this, as a kid i have always seen people feeding a tarantula pinkies... No bueno!!! Thanks jon you rock man!
And how fast do they reach about 8 inches?thanks, great video! LP will be my next spider!
@LumpzorZA
Like I said in the video, they prefer slightly moist substrate. Once a week or twice a month (as you have seen from the many T feeding videos I put up)
@Jon3800 didn't know. I live in Brazil but i'm afraid of trying to catch them in the wild =/ . And i wouldn't know how to recognise the specie. Thanks for the answer =D
Lastly, there's nothing really I can suggest you for your LP. You have to realize Ts DO go on feeding fasts and there's no sure way to force a T to eat...they usually eat when they are ready. Maybe leave the crickets for 2-3 days...maybe he'll eat it or start to offer pre-killed crickets and see if that can solve it.
8'' as mentioned in mythbuster video 12.
this is normal. These are a semi-defensive species. However, it's like I am always saying "individuals will vary". I have 3 LP...1 of which is very defensive and the other 2 will get defensive if I provoke them a lot
If it's molting...it should be upside down. If that's the case...you really shouldn't disturb it. If it's dead...then the T would have its legs tucked underneath like in a fist
the black at his abdomen has been lots 1/4? Can you rephrase that. If the abdomen's bald spot is already blue/black, then its likely in premolt and I don't need to explain to you that's normal for any T to not eat when they are in that stage.
Or...Maybe it's just not hungry or doesn't like its food... Medium size crickets for a small sling is a bit too large... You should offer crickets that are no bigger than it's abdomen. Ts gets scared if their prey is too large, that's also normal
Well i got a mean 2.5'' lil LP which gave me threat posture when i tried to feed it ( i think its gonna molt) but one think you didnt covered (or atleast i didnt hear it in the vid) : you said females mature at 4 years but whats the total lifespan? (im sorry if you mentioned it and i just didnt notice :D)
@NotoriousRUSSIAN
I did make an older video handling a B.auratum sling..I'll see if I can film handling an E.weijenberghi..I don't really like to handle my Ts
@Miguelsr1rst
I wouldn't consider LPs gentle giants at all. To be honest, most of mine are mean. Well there's not really much bigger species than L.parahybana besides the 3 theraphosa species (blondi, stirmi, apophysis). If anything considered Gentle giants, its G.pulchra or G.pulchripes, but they're temperamental
No. Being leggy doesn't mean male. I had a leggy difficilis and fracta that ended up both female
@Silweror
I didn't mention this. 12-15 years average
If you watch my feeding videos...It should give you an idea on how big prey should be..I always stress this in my videos food should be NO bigger than the T's abdomen
Yes, I believe I touched this in the vid, it does need a fair bit of misting..75-80% humidity
Quick question John I need to move my L.P. To a bigger enclosure and I bought I brick of the exo terra coco husk and looking at while making it up it looks more like wood chippings and not safe enough for T's I was just wondering is the coco husk okay or should I buy some coco fiber instead? Thanks
Hi Jon , I discovered your channel about a month ago and so far love the content you give! I have a question about the Brazilian Salmon Birdeaters. For the substrate how moist must it be? From i have been told can it be slightly moist? I'm getting one of these guys soon and been doing research but would like to ask for your opinion.
+slayet1997 it should be slightly moist, not swampy wet
+Jon3800 Alright, Thanks !! :D
I would like to get one these as my first tarantula but I have few questions what insects do I feed it and how big of insects. Also does this species require misting?
So it could be that your LP is getting dehydrated and your substrate isn't moist enough.
2 weeks without eating is NOT something to worry about. If you're no stranger to my feeding videos...my specimens get scheduled to be fed every 2-3 weeks and nothing bad happens they are healthy. I even once left slings for a whole month without eating and they were fine.
Jon, do you think my A. Geniculata will mind much if my room is warmer at night than during the day. Maybe five degrees difference? I know it's not natural but I'm not a fan of leaving the heat on high when I'm not home.
someone needs to go outside and appreciate spiders or maybe respect someone's hobby. I'm happy with or without a woman
my 6.5" female Lp is in a 20gal tank with lexan Plexiglas locking lid. how big is your Klugi today? ill check your feeding videos.
I hope LP gets big otherwise ill wait & see if I got any other females. I got like 8 baby Lps also.
Mice once or twice a year shouldn't hurt them. As long as mice isn't a large adult, small fuzzies really got no chance.
my L.klugi is 3''
I heard in the wild LPs get up to 12" in leg span?? if so its probably because they never stop eating.. and kill anything they can overpower
He doesn't have his legs under him and he isn't upside down he's also not eating
Owh... kay.. Btw, how do save a tarantula sling from mites?! I think theres mites in my seemani and pinch grab her is impossible... does ICU work?
@ivowimarine3
that's pretty fair for its size
klugi have redder abdomens and more blue in color than LPs.
what i mean the bald spot getting smaller and smaller and have a carve he keeps digging holes in the substrate,i tried even smallest cricket and i think hes afraid of it and he goes round and round in hes container...imworied cause hes getting smaller now,he only eat once after the last molt
@revoltkid123 yeah because I dont know what I'm talking about when it comes to t's right?
Jon can you figure out the sex of my lp? I just want to make sure don't have the molt right now but I have a ventral shot... can you give me a hint?
Sir good day, Gideon here again from the philippines..i hope you could still find time in entertaining this question; i'm kinda hooked up with the lasiodora genus, it's because of their massive sizes, but here in our area, the big fours are LP, LK, LD and LS, but my question would be, what would be the easiest way to differentiate a LK to a A. Chacoana? i have both but they're both look REALLY IDENTICAL...any words on this? or how can i show you pictures of both so you could ID them based on looks alone..thank you so much...love all of your tarantula videos..;-)
Gideon
I don't have an A.chacoana in my collection to physically give you the subtle differences between the two species..but as you already may be aware...Lasiodora species are FAR more bulkier than Acanthoscurria species...so the difference will be really obvious as it ages...As you know LK can get up to 8-10'' vs 4-5'' on A.chacoana
Physical differences:
Lasiodoras are much more hairier on the legs
A.chacoana: The bristles on the legs,abdomen and carapace are light pink,and a little bit curled like a B. albopilosum
thank you so much with those pointers sir...i really appreciate it much...keep posting video please...:-) if you just have the time..thanks again...
Gideon, I have posted 2 new tarantula videos
Not with this species. You're confusing this with the Brown recluse, which can their venom is composed of flesh-eating bacteria
L.parahybana do not have this venom. Yes they can cause tissue damage, mostly because of their 1 inch long fangs. Its not recommended to handle this species.
For the 1 inch sling bird eater can you feed it one pinhead CRICKET everyday till she molts or not .. ? ... for day three she is eating well. !!
SNAKE MANNN it’s your choice but I think feeding them 1 pinhead everyday is way too much. Tarantulas metabolism is way slower than dogs so they’re not meant to be fed everyday. Once a week is better and it does not harm them. I feed mine once a month (hint: feeding videos ) and nothing bad happens to them
Jon3800 ok. Why thank you for all of your help ...
Hi Jon! Are they a fast growing species?
How long you think my 5.5" LP female will take to get full grown 9-11"?
LP's get bigger and bulkier each molt right?? I read they can weight 125+ grams
A brocklehursti female is outpacing it... and will probably be full grown before the LP..
Hey, Uhhhh well if i get a half inch L.P in about 6 months to a year how big would it be(Heat-80 degrees) (Food- crickets and superworms once a week)???
hello jon,im a new in t his hobby...i have some few question to you...i have a L.P sling around half inch in size...he molt last month and i feed him medium size crickets a week after he molts and he grabs the cricket fast...a 1 week after he eats i give him another crickets and he doesnt care of the food....i tried feed him with crickets and he ddnt care at all...its been 2 weeks and 3 days now he ddnt eat at all...the black at his abdomen has been lots 1/4...is it normal?i really want to know
my lp gets pissy when trying to put it back in the enclosure and its only 3 inch been about 4 and a half months since i had itfrom a 1/4 inch so it has a personality
@jon,hello sir,just want to ask you some major difference between lp and lk.I got an lk,but now that it's around 6" it kinda looks like a lp.I've never seen an adult specimen of both,so i am a bit clueless.thank you for your time sir.
Hi, ive had a LP sling for a while now. When i first had it, its was really docile and it molted about a month ago and has become very defensive since. It doesnt really like to be disturb is this normal for this species?
have you ever cought a tarantula in the wild? like, hmm.. without buying...
sorry for my English...
MY LP SLING HAS MOLTED BUT HE SEEMS TO BE EATING THE EXOSKELETON WHEN DO I REMOVE IT . IT IS NOT IN A BORROW .. I DON'T WANT HIM TO HURT HIS FANGS ... HELP .. ????
""" DON'T WORRY ,,, THE PROBLEM IS SOLVED ,, " !!!! IT IS HANDLED ,,, WOW WHAT A NEW SIZE AND A COMPLETE COLOR CHANG ,,, HE MOLTED UNDER A MATTER OF MINS ... UNDER AN HOUR... : )))
@brutt128
thanks
How fast does the lasiodora become mature?
@Jon3800 yeah second one is obvious... duh they get much bulkier..
Its suprizing the A brocklehursti grows soo fast.. LOL cool T!!
I mean A. Juruenicola.. Sorry. Getting a sling Geniculata and I have it stuck in my head.
I think my t is dead when I try to prod him he doesn't move is he molting or dead
do you have any myth buster videos on grammostola iheringi?
Teresa,
I don't have a specific one on the G.iheringi but if you watch the one I did on the G.pulchripes and the G.rosea, they should be exactly the same; they will have the same care...dry substrate with a water dish as adults, and semi-moist substrate as a sling and early juvenile
2-4 years if fed well
Hey Jon. I have a question. Why do you allays oppose handling t's with big fangs? Should't handling be based on a t's aggression and venom potency?
RW Grafisch remember that Ts with bigger fangs can give more mechanical damage since they can go much deeper
@AntiGravity909
Nice !
i am getting a salomon pink for sixteen unsexed adult
Hey, Jon. Just wondering. Does LP exhibit sexual dimorphism at sling age? My sling is kinda leggy, but I haven't really seen another LP sling so I wouldn't know
For the one inch salmon sling should the substrate be HOW many inches.. because I only have heat pads if I try to lower the substrate the heat will really warm the surface MUCH quicker .. when to thick not as much or none at all. So what is the PROPER amount you think ? For his size 1" he is in a SPICE bottle
SNAKE MANNN you should definitely check out tarantula mythbuster video 35 since I highlight detailed notes on sling care of ANY species. Substrate should be 1/2 the amount of the pill vial it’s in. You should lose the heat pads. It’s vastly unnecessary for them since most of not all species thrive at room temperature (72-74F). Out of my 170 tarantulas I keep none of them have pads. Slings needs a lot ventilation (air holes) and semi humid substrate as slings are more prone to dehydration than the adults
Jon3800 ok. THANKS ... I'm NEW at this .. snakes are my #1 ... but I'm trying NEW things .. THANKS for all of your help
SNAKE MANNN don’t worry. These are 1000x easier than snakes. You’ll love em
Jon3800 JUST MAKING SURE ... TAP WATER IS FIND FOR THEM ...?
Do you happen to know which of the Lasiodora's are the rarest? I heard the Dificillis have been hard to come by, but I read that Klugis are 'rare', and I don't know anything about the Striatipes lol. I just got a 1.25-1.5" LP for $20 and the guy I bought it from has an unsexed 5" Dificillis that I was considering.
Justin, it really depends on what dealers stock in. The one's in my opinion that are harder to find so to quote "rare" are fracta, itabunae and stratipes.
Jon3800 oh I totally forgot about those other ones. Thanks Jon
Thank you I'll get some fiber straight away
I think my Lps are male .. but ill wait til next molt to confirm. =/ 4" in size right now
@geckogeek246
I will eventually
