Really says something about price of tarantulas and how varied they are. I purchased a 5-6cm body length juvenile of this species yesterday from TheSpiderShop, a UK exotic invert dealer, and it cost less than you would pay for a sling in Canada! Being a tarantula owner here in the UK is friggin awesome!
In Poland GBB is widely available and really cheap. About 10€ for a sling. Slightly bigger specimens can be bought for about 20-€-30€. I think this T is one of the most specimen to speciment different species if you look for temperament. My cousin's is so calm that you can put your finger under its chelicerae and it just walks away. While I saw one that attacks everything that moves in its enclosure.
Hey, Jon! Haven't got a question. Just want to thank you for all the T video content! I myself and I'm sure many other T owners got into the hobby because of you. You are doing a great thing for the community!
Wow, now I know for sure I'm picking one of these guys up (given the chance) on my next T shopping trip. Thanks for the info again Jon, you're the best man.
P.S. - I got my two GBB's when they were about 3/4". I used a very small acrylic water dish with one stone in it to keep them safe, and keep crickets alive. They're now both nearly 3". Both are fast and skittish - which is good! They retreat first when the lid comes off for feeding.or water dish cleaning. I don't handle them. I just feed them and appreciate their personalities and colors. They're SO easy to care for - bone dry coconut fiber, a water dish, a hide (which the don't use!)
I have a Chromatopelma Cyaneopubescens female sling 1.75cm She is super calm, not skittish nor aggressive. I got to witness her hunt yesterday afternoon 😀... I still won’t handle her because I do not want to give any added stress to her.
My CBB I believe I overfed, and put it in a much too large enclosure. Anyway it is very lethargic compared to when I got it, although it seems healthy in every way, it webs, just molted fine, is growing really FAST, eats fine, although it's messy. When I first got it at 1", it fascinated me with it's incredibly clean ways. It immediately made a "fence" around the border of it's small spiderling cage from Jamie's T's, and wrapped up the moss I had lying around like a cowboy lassoing it's cow! I was so excited! BUT, when I moved it to a much larger cage, I guess it got overwhelmed and quit this cleaning behavior.
@ Jon3800 I was bitten by a GBB 1 year ago. Similar to a bee sting although throbbing was present in the half of hand that was bitten on the right side right hand under little finger. I went into a minor sweat first five minutes. Then, sweat went away after a minute or two. Pain went away about 30-45 minutes. It was a minor bite from MM.
@Dabber422 1) as in the mythbuster video, the first one I did was on this species, I did discussed the not eating part was normal. It's fact because you have to keep in mind, G.rosea are slow growers and they refuse food up to several months. 2) If it stays for this long in the water dish...it means that your humidity levels are maybe too low.
there new facility is 5 minutes from Metro Place St-Henry. They are on Notre Dame Street. I always call them ahead of time and I can pick them up at their house, which is on Trans Island Avenue near Decarie exit 66
Just got my 1" baby GBB he/she's so beautiful! cant wait to see him/her grow. A newbie btw. Any tips on taking care these lovely baby creatures? I also have a 1.5" Chaco G. Knee. Awesome mythbuster vids btw! very informative and helpful :)
it's a topic that's been mentioned in quite a number of my videos (molting videos, feeding videos where I show Ts in premolt)..you wait 1 week, it's the same as for an adult
Can't wait for mine to get up to the size of yours... Quite a way to grow, but it is an eating machine. Wow they are quite expensive over there. My 1.5 inch sling was £7 (C$10 aprox)
@crazymangonewild123 By checking the molt to see if you have a flap or checking the underside of the abdomen to see if you have the characteristic slit..There's many videos where I've shown this is done. It works for every single T, including GBB. If you specimen has hooks on its 1st pair of legs, that is a male.
@boonhaw13 GBBs prefer bone dry substrate as they come from arid part in Venezuela. They can be kept like G.rosea..juts keep a water bowl in and you're fine.
@DeadlyGecko101 yes. All the Ts in my list will get their own mythbuster video. The G.pulchra will be largely a repeat video of the G,rosea since they are similiar in care
@Jon3800 So you can actually leave the substrate to get bone dry? As long as the water dish is kept full? But my water dish is just a normal bottle cap. And my GBB is around 3inch or 3.5inch. The cage used is just like yours, same colour but I think its just abit smaller... In the GBB enclosure, I used a little amount of substrate, a few sticks, a dried leaf and some fried fir/grass... my GBB sits on the fir and makes its webbings there thought... I live in Malaysia, its constantly hot here!
@salpednavsalocin It makes sense when you're looking at it from a tarantula's perspective. You have to take into account about their poor eyesight they have. All their 8 eyes are clustered close together making them near-sighted. They can only see few cm what's close to them so unlike most wild animals they cannot see far away. In nature, once a T establishes a burrow, they never go far away from it. It's similar to putting a myopic person in a large house. would he/she be comfortable?
I'm getting two of these next week. I payed €20 for the both of them (and €20 for 2x Avicularia versicolor). Mind you, they are all still slings of about half and inch to one inch. But still, when I heard the price you guys in Canada have to pay for the same species...wow, dude, that's brutal! Never considered moving to Europe, Jon? ;-) Thanks for the educational video, it's a great help!
Honestly, there's really not many. There's also Chilobrachys guangxiensis (Chinese Fawn). If you've seen my most recent video, she's more of a webber than this one. But if you're starting out in the hobby...this is NOT a species you should get as your first one. Its much more aggressive, has stronger venom is faster moving than the GBB, and not as colorful. They also share the same lifespan.
Hi Jon, I am so happy to share with you that my GBB double clutched! I noticed that the eggsac was very moist..I opened the sac and took the eggs out for incubation. The eggs as I have noticed are wet like they were soaked in water. I want to ask you if there is a way to tell if eggs are good? I tagged a photo of the eggs on facebook so you can have a look. :-) Thanks man. :-)
@BooshgaFilms and usndc50: i'm not saying they will not choose to make their burrow in a small area when presented with a large tank, but to say they are "overwhelmed" or "unhappy" in larger enclosures is incorrect in my opinion.
i had a hobo spider have 11 egg sacks in a row then 3 more after with no eggs in just webb realy realy looked like eggs though! - never no whats going to happen in the end but Jon gives a great baseline to start with any T. Helped me get started in the hobby!
hey jon, was talking to my brother and he came home wif a gbb, we didnt know what it was either did the dealer. he just said it was a salmon pink, we thought it too because of its dark colouration, it ended up molting and got its orange abomin so we took it down to the dealer and its a confirmed gbb and he only got the sling for £12
Hi Jon, I also just want to share that the first and only breeding attempt that I made with my gbb pair. Surprisingly only took like an hour. I guess I was very lucky. :-) And are GBBs really known to double clutch? I was so surprised mine did. :-)
Royal blue and purpel leggs if you get it in bright enough light, same with its carape it goes a turqois at the start of each leggs! didnt notice till i got a bright bright light on it close up!
I have a female of 7yrs old now, she was rather even temperament but in the last year or so she's become really pissy - rearing up with the slightest "provocation" (opening the enclosure) kicking hairs even from my my breathing. Generally slow but capable of speed. Saw her "drumming" once, also left tank open one evening and although didn't run away she did leave and web up the area the tank is on. Coincidentally I also have the curly hair/Brachypelma Albopilosum, same age but this one stayed very small 2.5-3 inches - both from Tarantula Canada. I have to clean out the GBB which I am dreading, fortunately I've avoided the hairs and I'd like to keep it that way as well as not get bit.
@Salpednavsalocin: Jon is right about smaller enclosures. This is TRUE for Tarantulas. Tarantulas prefer smaller spaces because they feel more secure. That is why most burrow down in the ground. If they preferred open spaces to range, then they would be nomadic. However with tarantulas, they will most likely only come out at dusk or night to feed and then return to their burrow. Tarantulas just like to be in small spaces. Period.
Hi again. I'm ordering 1 of these tonight. I've got a choice of sexes too from a very good online dealer spidershop uk. Been lookin everywhere for this and I've found one.. Can't wait! I always use ur videos as great reference. What have you done lol!
hey jon im from venezuela and i just made a trip to the north shore and i found a nest of gbb in my apartment i kept a big adult, around the size of my hand... its my first spider so i need some tip about how to feed it cus it havent eat anything from exception of another spider like her but smaller... its a very common spider at the place i found it but i dont really now how to feed it, thanks for the help :D
Hi Jon..I tagged a pic of my GBB sac..It just doest not look so good....and very wet too. My female took it out of the enclosure and just left it on the opposite side of her hide... I managed to save some of the eggs hoping some are still good. :-(
Hi there.. I have one now. About a year and a half... SUPER Quick... Love to look at him/ her for hours. Most beautiful creature ever. But I am a bit skeptical to hold him... how do I know male from female?
+Renatewahl You can sex tarantulas accurately by molt or by ventral shots (I've made loads of videos on that). Otherwise adults...as I mentioned in the video..mature males will have hooks and swelled up palps and are longer legged while females are larger and short legged without the hooks and palps
@crazymangonewild123 she hasn't change much sine the video was taken. I will be doing a full update of each of my individual Ts. I have plans of making it tomorrow
love your channel. I'm subscribed. I've got one question to ask regarding a Brachypelma smithi. I was told when your starting out there a good beginner tarantula to have. So when I get mine. Mine will be a sling. And I wanted to know how often do you need to feed them or can you feed them as often as you would feed a adult one. I'm getting one soon. And I can't wait. :)
Hello, My cousin was bitten by a GBB but he did mess with her alot anyways Bite report Jon he just said feels like a bee sting barely any blood if any and after about 10 min. it stings a little and he got a little stomach aque but thats about it...
@ThePaintballer911 you can find them on online dealers. Go to this video (watch?v=HoVR0CuLT5Q), there are links. Since I am in Canada, I cannot review US or UK dealers
As I said in the mating mythbuster video...you will NOT asee the sperm webs all the time...they make and they destroy it right away. The moment you see him pacing around...he is ready
Okay..sorry again for the trouble and thanks....As per my observation...he is just at the top of the enclosure and not moving at all...how would you assess that John? :-)
Jon, might get a GBB at the upcoming expo. just gonna ask you that, when does the green carapace start showing? if i buy a GBB at 2.5", how long will it take to mature?
Hey buddie I have a Ggb as well. It just molted in first time I've had her ( I have had her for two years about thinking the owner was wrong and was a male and when she molted I though she died but after about 4-6 hrs it came out and was very weak but would stretch like I never seen before and I've done lot research watched lot of videos but now she went into her log home built a small web home so she can't come out. I tired giving her cricket week later so she could get stronger and quicker etc and had water daily. She was out stretching for 3-4 days! now hiding from everything but pivots Around few time a day I say, abdomen is tiny. but I'm unsure she acting so Weird and getting smaller
Full Throttle try bug gel....it's for live food but suitable for T's...when mines had his first molt he was thirsty as hell afterwards and almost went straight to it. he started feeding about 2 weeks after & now has a brilliant appetite hope this helps =)
Diego, Most of the "tips" come from directly watching my videos and are found in organized playlists from how to feed them, sex them, molting records as well as mating attempts If you're an avid watcher of my infamous tarantula feeding videos series...then tips on how to feed them should be very clear to you as I happen to schedule my feedings around these videos. Use them as your guide...crickets or superworms bought from pet stores.
Can you help me out Jon? I tryed looking up google for some info and ask some petshops on why my rose hair is staying in its water dish for the last 4 weeks. Also he or she has never eat since the day I got him/her from the last reptile show in september. Thanks
my hobo spider on 1 out of the 11 sacks actualy had a wet sack which was odd water dish was no where near so spider must have done it, i guess ur T rolled her sack into its water or somwhere damp! - i took the sack and dried it some off the eggs that stuck went bad others hatched was a small clutch though compared to the previous 9
@crazymangonewild123 Yes, I will be making an updated tour video of every single T I own. Don't be dissapointed with the GBB update since she has never changed since then...it is also good to watch some of the feeding videos. I feature over half my entire collection, so those serve as updates
I found an adult at an exotic pet store by my house for $80.l that I was debating on purchasing... After watching your vid.. I'm going back on Monday to see if they still have it! ( the girl working there said it had been there for about a year)
well you can always ventral sex it like I showed last week in my video with the T.ockerti. However, if they claim it as an adult...it should be very obvious.. Mature males as I said in the video are smaller bodied, longs legs, tibial hooks on the first pair of legs with bulbous palps. A female will look exactly like what's shown in the video. However this applies to only adults.. It won't work if it's smaller.
Hi Jon, I have GBB eggs I salvaged from what seems to be a bad egg sac...I can see that the remaining eggs look clear in color with a white thing inside of it...just want to ask you if that is an indication that the eggs are still good? :-)
Hi Jon, Were you able to check the photo i tagged you? :-) It's not gold, and I have separated the 2 black ones. lol It's almost clear in color with fuzzy white inside? lol
Hi Jon, yesterday morning i found my GBBs egg sac on the opposite side of where her hide is..The egg sac looks in bad shape and very wet. You think there can still be good eggs in there? I tagged a photo of the eggsac for you on facebook. Thank you.
Hi Jon, I bred my GBB female last April 18,2013. She now has webbed/covered up her hide and trapped herself inside so i want to ask if you think she already has an eggsac? I don't want to stress her by taking a peak. lol
ideal, thanks. it's my first T. and the breeder i got it from threw in a lasiodora parahybana sling too free of charge for being a new customer. made my day
Nice informative vid Jon...you said one thing that made my hairs rise though "they will be overwhelmed by to much space" sorry, but that's just a rediculous statement IMO. Giving an animal a bigger cage is at most inconvenient for us, the keepers, because it will be harder do check if they have eaten prey and what not, but dont tell me a wild animal will be "overwhelmed" with to much space...that just doesnt make sence.
I got my 3"/3.5" grammostola pulchripes from a breeder Tarantula Canada was linked to for $170 with her enclosure (uncluding substrate, water dish, hide). Is that a normal price for this species?
I thought it was pronounced sye-aneo-pube-esssens instead of see-aneo-pube-essens as cyan is a form of blue which is pronounced sye-an. Maybe it's a cross atlantic thing. Is cyan pronounced see-an in Canada?
Just bought a gbb yesterday, but she never go down to the substrate.. She keeps staying on the wood and glass.. As i know gbb is a terrestrial tarantula.. But why mine doesn't act like any other terrestrial species? Thank you
Really says something about price of tarantulas and how varied they are. I purchased a 5-6cm body length juvenile of this species yesterday from TheSpiderShop, a UK exotic invert dealer, and it cost less than you would pay for a sling in Canada! Being a tarantula owner here in the UK is friggin awesome!
Jackeroose98 6cm juvis 25 quid he has them in now
Yea Canada has super high prices on everything. I paid 30€ for a female 1.75cm sling.
i just got a gbb and this video was most helpful..really appreciate it john!!
In Poland GBB is widely available and really cheap. About 10€ for a sling. Slightly bigger specimens can be bought for about 20-€-30€.

Wow, now I know for sure I'm picking one of these guys up (given the chance) on my next T shopping trip. Thanks for the info again Jon, you're the best man.
Definitely one of my favorite T's. I'd say top 3 actually.
I just got a 3 inch one plus a nice housing for $100.00 at the Reptile Supershow in California. A female. She molted about 2 weeks later. Nice spider.
P.S. - I got my two GBB's when they were about 3/4". I used a very small acrylic water dish with one stone in it to keep them safe, and keep crickets alive. They're now both nearly 3". I have a Chromatopelma Cyaneopubescens female sling 1.75cm
She is super calm, not skittish nor aggressive.
I got to witness her hunt yesterday afternoon 😀... I still won’t handle her because I do not want to give any added stress to her.
man new to your videos and new to spiders as well. i dont believe i could be informed better anywhere else. killer vids !

it's a topic that's been mentioned in quite a number of my videos (molting videos, feeding videos where I show Ts in premolt)..you wait 1 week, it's the same as for an adult
Tarantula Canada is located in Montreal Quebec. I live like 20 minutes from their place.
thx a lot for this video, I helped me a lot, Im gettin' my very first gbb next week.
Can't wait for mine to get up to the size of yours... Quite a way to grow, but it is an eating machine. Wow they are quite expensive over there. My 1.5 inch sling was £7 (C$10 aprox)

Ive also heard it called the orange bottle brush, the greenish blue biter and the venezuelan webbing machine
I actually saw one at one of my local pet stores, it was the size of a wolf spider and was selling for 80 dollars.
Timothy, I've never bred this species so I couldn't tell you. Its rare that it would happen. Congrats
@salpednavsalocin

@KresTKroVee
oh dear, that must have been painful. Thanks or sharing.

Hey Jon I made a video a while back showing the colour change they go through from a silng to a juvenile, I will post it as a video response.
Just got an Adult female for 27 quid online, She has begun to build a retreat already! she is very active.
Danny Roe ahh shit, I just ordered an adultbfemale for 60 odd quid. What website are you using man?
Tarantulas bristol online

@monstersilk
Cheapest 1/4 inch L.paraybana. They sell them for $5.
Most expensive 3 inch female P.ultramarinus. They sell them for $350
@crazymangonewild123
she hasn't change much sine the video was taken. I will be doing a full update of each of my individual Ts. I have plans of making it tomorrow

Thank you John. I have ordered me one.
Believe it or not, there's a GBB for sale at the pet store near my house for about $40 last time I checked.
@rickjamison24
yes, they still do but not very often
I feed them the same schedule as my other Ts....every 2-4 weeks as specified in my Tarantula feeding videos
@Jon3800 oh okay the cheapest here is if not the philippine dwarf, it is the rosea and albo slings
Hello, My cousin was bitten by a GBB but he did mess with her alot anyways Bite report Jon he just said feels like a bee sting barely any blood if any and after about 10 min. it stings a little and he got a little stomach aque but thats about it...

jon good day...can u make a detail video on phil. orange tarantula....im planning to get one...tnx a lot...and more power...

you can find them on online dealers.
You are my hero:D
Jon you should go to tarantulas Bristol as they have international shipping have these very cheap
Diego,
Most of the "tips" come from directly watching my videos and are found in organized playlists from how to feed them, sex them, molting records as well as mating attempts
If you're an avid watcher of my infamous tarantula feeding videos series...then tips on how to feed them should be very clear to you as I happen to schedule my feedings around these videos.
Hi John,
It's me again, my male GBB molted and now has tibial hooks....any do's and don'ts when breeding Gbbs John? :-)
@crazymangonewild123
Yes, I will be making an updated tour video of every single T I own. Don't be dissapointed with the GBB update since she has never changed since then...it is also good to watch some of the feeding videos. I feature over half my entire collection, so those serve as updates
@Rammstein45
if it's an adult...get that quick. Normally 1'' slings go around this price range
30-50 dollars?!?! in my country its uncommon but only costs around 20- 30 (30 is considered "expensive" already)
where can i see a good video on how to gender a green bottle blue??? on its ventral shot??? can you help me jon??? tnx.
I found an adult at an exotic pet store by my house for $80.l that I was debating on purchasing... After watching your vid.. I'm going back on Monday to see if they still have it! ( the girl working there said it had been there for about a year)
$80 that's cheap..
:-D they couldn't tell me if it's male or female though..
well you can always ventral sex it like I showed last week in my video with the T.ockerti.
K I will defiantly try to differentiate between male and female when I go in there tomorrow.. Either way I think I'm getting a new T. :-)
Hi Jon,
I have GBB eggs I salvaged from what seems to be a bad egg sac...I can see that the remaining eggs look clear in color with a white thing inside of it...just want to ask you if that is an indication that the eggs are still good? :-)
@gow2626
b.smithi, B.albopilosum, a.avicularia, e.weijenberghi or e.campestratus
Where is tarantulaCanada?
i am thinking of getting a GBB for my first tarantula
Hi Jon,
Were you able to check the photo i tagged you? :-)
It's not gold, and I have separated the 2 black ones. lol
It's almost clear in color with fuzzy white inside? lol
@Silweror
i believe it is cyaneo.
will show at 2''. about 2-3 years
i really like your gbb jon,i hope someday i could have one too.🙏
super thanks Jon! I will keep you updated...i hope my male GBB survives. lol
well i live in laval where is it exacly?
Hi Jon, yesterday morning i found my GBBs egg sac on the opposite side of where her hide is..The egg sac looks in bad shape and very wet. You think there can still be good eggs in there?
I tagged a photo of the eggsac for you on facebook.
Thank you.
Hi Jon,
I bred my GBB female last April 18,2013. She now has webbed/covered up her hide and trapped herself inside so i want to ask if you think she already has an eggsac?
I don't want to stress her by taking a peak. lol
sometimes... depends on the male
hey jon, i just bought a 4cm sling (for £15!) it's arriving next week. what size tub do you think i should start with? great vid by the way
as you may have seen from my feeding videos...I use small 16oz deli cups before I upgrade them to small critter keepers/2L shoebox enclosures
ideal, thanks. it's my first T. and the breeder i got it from threw in a lasiodora parahybana sling too free of charge for being a new customer. made my day
Chroma = color Cyan = blue Pubecense = hair (generally) The rest is all Greek to me :)
Can't wait till i get my Green Bottle Blue!
How long till the A. Seemani Mythbuster?! ;D
Is that a normal price for this species?
it is with an enclosure.
*including
I bought a GBB in my local pet store for 20 pounds. Wow that is lucky :)
as the vid suggested 3-5 years if fed well
I thought it was pronounced sye-aneo-pube-esssens instead of see-aneo-pube-essens as cyan is a form of blue which is pronounced sye-an.
Thank you
My rose hair did that when I first got it. The substrate was too wet so I baked it in the oven to dry it out and put it back now. Seems fine now.
