A warning for players about the reef shark: atleast in the console versions of the game, sometimes reefsharks are agressive. It doesn't seem to be intentional as they are extremely glitchy when aggressive, and there are passive reef sharks too, but they are extremely difficult to deal with as they are too fast to reliably hit. In one of my saves, 1 island has aggressive an reef shark spawn. It moves too fast and unpredictably to hit it from range, and you need to be almost frame perfect to melee it. Also, due to the bugs that let sharks clip through islands, it almost always attacks me if I'm in the water regardless of where I enter the water. Luckily the little reefy keeps his beefy with me in his turf rather than chase me around the whole map. Also, props for leaving in your hammerhead incident. Shows that even with decent knowledge of the game you can still get bodied pretty quickly. Overall solid guide.
Yes! Been getting a lot of comments about the reef shark. In PC they don’t do anything, but I’ve been getting a lot of players on console telling me it’s killing them. Thanks for clearing this up! 🙏 ps screw the hammerhead sharks lol
Yeah on console there are passive blacktip reef sharks just like on PC, but there are also whitetips who are aggressive, yet those are labelled as blacktips for some reason despite clearly resembling whitetips. It's weird.
I'm new to stranded deep. I actually have a huge fear of the ocean. I still haven't went more than 5 inches into the ocean. I went a little underwater, thought it looked beautiful, saw that giant grouper fish thing and a reef shark and went nope, back to my island XD I also saw a goblin shark right at my island and idky
A tip for the giant crabs, run behind them and use an axe, takes 6-7 hits and they cannot turn on the spot so if you are accurate take them down without taking any damage. Also seagulls when caught/killed don’t go bad/rotten, so always helpful to have passive bird snares and leave a pile of seagulls laying around 👍🏼

I know that you can leave a stick at one island play the game until the very end and then come back and your stick will still be there. Maybe carcasses work the same?
*daltonworsham4326* Not even reef sharks but he said the stingrays aren't aggressive nor damage you? Ugh, yeah they do. They will most definitely sting you and cause poison. As far as the goblin shark? This is the one shark I can't stand as they will chase and constantly flip your raft more so than hammerheads and tiger sharks haha. I played stranded deep this year for the 1st time, and was keeping away from any and all info about the game to go blind I remember the Great white shark was one of the 1st sharks I ever hunted, NOT realizing it was a great white when I was trying to find one, and it wasnt after checking my stream video I realized it was one of the early hunts XD
@@AnUnlikelyHero I had a similar experience. I think there might be a high chance game starts you near where great sharks spawn, just to mess up with players. I hunted the shark not looking at the name. I only noticed it was a great shark when looking back at the stream. I was expecting the great white to be the size of the Meg, and the Meg to be bigger...like MUCH bigger
1 meat ....2 meat ....2 hide etc etc seems like a shallow creature system well add in the poison effect.Needs a LOT more resources to give the game more depth as well each creature should have sizes that vary in resource gathering.Seems like 1/4 of a game needs way more to the design.
I don’t know if it was added later, or if it’s only on console/Xbox exclusive, but as I’ve been playing the game recently on Gamepass, I’ve encountered several Black Tipped Reef Sharks that are hostile and attack me. They return the same resource yield as all of the other sharks besides the Whale Shark and Great White.
@@AnUnlikelyHero what’s interesting is that I can see passive, unkillable Reef Sharks too, like the Sea Turtles and Stingrays, but then also ones that will attack as well. Man, the hostile Reef Sharks are fast buggers!
@@AnUnlikelyHero yup! That’s it! Lol. I don’t know if the game is still having new content added or not, but I’d love to see some new wildlife for the land and Sea. Bull Sharks that could still attack you in the shallows/island lagoons, but couldn’t trap you in their jaws, would be really cool. Or Passive Nurse Sharks that patrol the shallows and would be a good non dangerous source of rawhide and a singular large meat/several medium meats. A Basking or Green Shark that would be an incredibly rare chance to encounter in the deep ocean, but would drop even more rawhide and meat than the Whale or Great White, would be amazing too! As for land animals, I think pumas or monkeys could make cool additions. Maybe monkeys could have some functionality as tameable pets, and could help carry something for the player to help manage inventory better
Man when I started playing this game between day one-five I was going to a island on the starter raft and in the middle of the ocean a shark flipped my boat over multiple times. I stopped playing after that.
I also can't bring myself to kill the whale shark, ever since I learned it doesn't hurt you after all, like reality. If I swim around the edge of the island shelf I find I attract bigger sharks.
ok u explained a lot and answered a few questions but I still need answers like the 4 non-boss sharks can they destroy rafts and how many spears does it take to bring each on down?
They can flip smaller rafts, I never had any trouble with my raft as far as damage. Mostly damage the player. As far as how many spears go, that depends on your combat skill. Higher it is: more damage inflicted. You’re really only in danger from the non-boss sharks while swimming in the water. Good luck! 👍
I think you underestimate the importance of seagulls and bats. First seagulls aren't near as hard to kill as you make out just get them when they land on cliffs, but the importance of seagulls and bats is you can safely kill them early game, not only for a source of food but it helps you safely build up your hunting stat which makes dealing with other animals much easier.
I’ve seen like two hammer heads my entire game and like 0 great whites I only see tiger sharks and those annoying fast mako sharks in games I hope it isn’t broken
Hello good video , but the bird can be farm with a structure that will trap one every day. Very helpfull to do the achievement where you dont want to eat fish (but fruits are better so you do 2 achievements at the same time) Also for the boar i see you running and using a spear to hit him. It is way easyer to show thel how to kill it with a bow since the boar will stop running everytime you are far enough for him and it is an easy shot , also you get all arrows back as i think they never break.
i always find goblins at my island. and i found a reef shark that actually killed me. it was bigger than the non agressive one. also i loved this vid and it helped me alot.
I found a goblin shark on spawn island I had to kill him cause I literally couldn’t step into the water for three seconds with out seeing him.. but the bosses are a whole other story I just killed two today u honeslty don’t need hella loot as long as ur character is healthy and u either have a inventory of refined spears or harpoon bullets and decently accurate ur do fine on them
Bahaha this is a great video about a game I know nothing about :) Random question, why are goblin sharks in the sunlight zone? Did the devs just think they were cool and wanted to add them? They’re deep water sharks
Ok this vid is like 1 year old but when I was sailing I saw a shark bigger then a great white it was a Meg and it wasn’t at a spawn point it was the size of 2 Lusakas and I couldn’t find it sunce
Also pretty op. Each island has a few set locations where seagulls always land. Placing a snare close to it can get several gulls a day. The hitbox is generously large and the seagulls always follow their landing patterns.
i thought the same, like a island set up just to barter with other players would be sweet. being able to trade would be huge, bet it would form players who do nothing but farming and others who just make medicine or fuel
@@popanollie1 Rust, Ark, Fallout 76, Minecraft, there’s a lot of other games that are better suited for this. Stranded Deep is meant to more of a solo survival experience. :)

Yeah on PC (at least since last I played which admittingly was awhile ago.) they are harmless to the player. I mention the the Reef shark briefly in the Passive category at 3:08 :)
Me wondering why a marlin and great white gives 4 large meat but a whale shark only gives 3 large meat and why great white is bigger an has more hp than a whale shark
@@AnUnlikelyHero yeah I guess and me also remembering the uhhh oh “whale eating boss” wink wink is smaller than whale shark cuz it’s just a reskin and recode great white if you get close enough it just literally says Greta whit shark while hovering over it

On my solo game AND my online game with my friend, Goblin sharks seem to be a regular occurrence in shallow waters, the same as Hammerheads. I have a fear of the ocean and somehow persuaded myself to play this game, and I refuse to go and check out shipwrecks until I know the local nuisance - our shark friends - has been eradicated. Thankfully I haven't seen any sharks in deeper ocean yet, or had any interact or come near my raft. If I ever get knocked off, I'm defo not holding my shit together 💀
Sadly I’m on day 50 and have never seen a goblin shark ): only ever one hammerhead and I ALWAYS see tiger sharks daily and find them easier than the hammers to hit (bigger and slower) I want to hunt a goblin shark so bad but NEVER see them
If u have bandages and if ur phisycal skill is high its best to fight the sharks in the water. Thats how I get all the sharks, even the great white and the meg.
I’m very late but on console version “The Meg” is labelled as a Great White. Does that mean there’s only one Great Whiye in the game? Oh and also there’s a subspecies of reef shark I found that actually attack you. Only ever seen one though
In the PC version there is a Great White AND the Meg. The Meg is honestly just a great white shark with a special skin, it’s not an actual Megalodon shark. The Great White sharks are rare in my experience and I’ve only see them in areas far away from islands. I’d venture to say that there is more than one great white, but definitely only one Meg. 👍
I’m typing this from Jamaica where we just spent the week swimming and snorkeling. this game helped me get over my fear of the ocean.

Yeah according to the wiki the Boars will respawn after 7 game days :)
im new to the game this really helped thank you
You're welcome, glad to help!
I played stranded deep this year for the 1st time, and was keeping away from any and all info about the game to go blind
I remember the Great white shark was one of the 1st sharks I ever hunted, NOT realizing it was a great white
when I was trying to find one, and it wasnt after checking my stream video I realized it was one of the early hunts XD
@@ZoeLycan first shark I came across on my way to an island on the starter boat I got flipped over by a Great White. Crazy!
@@ZoeLycan I think you’re absolutely right. And yeah unfortunately I think the Meg is just a re-skinned version of the Great White.
I met a great white 5 hours into the game when it flipped me over and scared the absolute shit out of me. Lasr time i touched this game.
there im your 500th sub!
WOOT WOOT! Thanks friend!!! 🎈🎉🙌
This video is very good. I played this game for 2 years now. This will help allot of newer players.
You can make a trap for small fish and seagull. The seagull trap is extremely usefull becuase of how hard it is too catch one.
Thanks friend! Appreciate the compliment!
@@BjornUPG Yes! This is especially useful for players who are a little bit more afraid to go into the water.
@@AnUnlikelyHero No problem.
It’s not hard wait for it to land on the rocks
1 meat ....2 meat ....2 hide etc etc seems like a shallow creature system well add in the poison effect.Needs a LOT more resources to give the game more depth as well each creature should have sizes that vary in resource gathering.Seems like 1/4 of a game needs way more to the design.
I totally agree. It’s a fun game, but it’s definitely a one and done for me.
Throwing a simple wood spear works fine and costs little. Five thrown from a distance outside of their attack or run away worked every time.
There you go, shark hunter on a budget still gets the job done :p
I don’t know if it was added later, or if it’s only on console/Xbox exclusive, but as I’ve been playing the game recently on Gamepass, I’ve encountered several Black Tipped Reef Sharks that are hostile and attack me. They return the same resource yield as all of the other sharks besides the Whale Shark and Great White.
Yeah the reef shark is aggressive on console, but not on PC for some reason.
@@AnUnlikelyHero what’s interesting is that I can see passive, unkillable Reef Sharks too, like the Sea Turtles and Stingrays, but then also ones that will attack as well.
Man, the hostile Reef Sharks are fast buggers!
@@deaconpoole7577 oh yes! I think there’s reef sharks and then the aggressive one’s are the Black Tip reef sharks if I recall.
That sucks mang. :/
A little 3 years late to the video but i just started stranded deep ans found it on day 5-10 on the secpnd island near the shore near shipwreck
I also can't bring myself to kill the whale shark, ever since I learned it doesn't hurt you after all, like reality.
If I swim around the edge of the island shelf I find I attract bigger sharks.
He’s just your friend, I couldn’t never hurt them. Haha
@@And_wut NOOOOOOOOO!!!! lololol
on console there's two reef sharks. black tip (aggressive) white tip (passive)
ok u explained a lot and answered a few questions but I still need answers like the 4 non-boss sharks can they destroy rafts and how many spears does it take to bring each on down?
They can flip smaller rafts, I never had any trouble with my raft as far as damage. Mostly damage the player. As far as how many spears go, that depends on your combat skill. Higher it is: more damage inflicted. You’re really only in danger from the non-boss sharks while swimming in the water. Good luck! 👍
@@AnUnlikelyHero thank you much appreciated
I think you underestimate the importance of seagulls and bats. First seagulls aren't near as hard to kill as you make out just get them when they land on cliffs, but the importance of seagulls and bats is you can safely kill them early game, not only for a source of food but it helps you safely build up your hunting stat which makes dealing with other animals much easier.
👍
bothers me how small the whale shark is :/ i would love some more crustaceans or gastropods in the game!
Yeah it’s like a baby whale shark lol
My starting island always has hammerheads for some reason. Sometimes in pairs. I had to visit other islands to see other types of sharks.
Yeah, I think it’s mostly random, but I’m not quite sure. :)
I’ve seen like two hammer heads my entire game and like 0 great whites I only see tiger sharks and those annoying fast mako sharks in games I hope it isn’t broken
Hello good video , but the bird can be farm with a structure that will trap one every day. Very helpfull to do the achievement where you dont want to eat fish (but fruits are better so you do 2 achievements at the same time)
Also for the boar i see you running and using a spear to hit him. It is way easyer to show thel how to kill it with a bow since the boar will stop running everytime you are far enough for him and it is an easy shot , also you get all arrows back as i think they never break.
thanks, this info will make the game way more fun to play!! oh... dont die.. well failed at that... like 300 times lol
Glad to help, and don't worry I've died a few times myself in SD lol
The stingray actually can be killed & if you kill it, you’ll get 2 small meat, I think.
Woah, Subnautica but with real life oceans and creatures🤩
Fun fact if you kill a Marlin the raw meat does not spoil from them it last forever raw
i just suscribed thanks for the amazing content
You're welcome, glad you're enjoying :)
We all hate the hammer head shark because he flips your boat and make you bleed like every single time
No doubt, they are assholes lol
Thank you for making this video I needed that rawhide thanks
You got it, it was fun to make! :D
I was using the life raft to sail to other islands and a megalodon kept flipping the raft over in between all the islands, scary shizz
i always find goblins at my island. and i found a reef shark that actually killed me. it was bigger than the non agressive one. also i loved this vid and it helped me alot.
i also play on Playstation stranded deep.
Glad it helped!
I found a goblin shark on spawn island I had to kill him cause I literally couldn’t step into the water for three seconds with out seeing him.. but the bosses are a whole other story I just killed two today u honeslty don’t need hella loot as long as ur character is healthy and u either have a inventory of refined spears or harpoon bullets and decently accurate ur do fine on them
Great Video! Very helpful for beginners
Thanks friend!
Bahaha this is a great video about a game I know nothing about :)
Random question, why are goblin sharks in the sunlight zone? Did the devs just think they were cool and wanted to add them? They’re deep water sharks
Yeah exactly, I think they were just like, “This shark is so weird looking, let’s put it in!” Lol
Damn. He really was an unlikely hero.
🙌🙌🙌
Boy i remembered when Im still new to this game and a shark just flipped my raft..I got so mad I chased it underwater with an axe
Of course I died
Hey, sounds you like you died with honor sir! Lol
Great video!
Thanks man!
Ok this vid is like 1 year old but when I was sailing I saw a shark bigger then a great white it was a Meg and it wasn’t at a spawn point it was the size of 2 Lusakas and I couldn’t find it sunce
Use the bird snare for seagulls; it's passive hunting like the fish trap
Also pretty op. Each island has a few set locations where seagulls always land. Placing a snare close to it can get several gulls a day. The hitbox is generously large and the seagulls always follow their landing patterns.
I kill the Marlin and then it got glitched in my boat so I couldn't get it flipped back right side up and I had to reset my game
nicely done... informative content, concisely presented with a sense of humor
Exactly what I was going for, thanks dude!
Dude I was hoping you would go over the three bosses.
Here ya go: ua-cam.com/video/_5ixsgDgYsA/v-deo.html
Man i wish this game had online MP of some sort
Apparently the Pc version has local split screen Co-op.
i thought the same, like a island set up just to barter with other players would be sweet. being able to trade would be huge, bet it would form players who do nothing but farming and others who just make medicine or fuel
@@popanollie1 Rust, Ark, Fallout 76, Minecraft, there’s a lot of other games that are better suited for this. Stranded Deep is meant to more of a solo survival experience. :)
Well stranded deep just came out as multiplayer on all platforms
once on my first plathrou i went to sail to another island and a reef shark killed me by tipping over my raft and drowning
Me and my friends started a new world and was sailing to our first island when we were sailing back a great white almost tipped over are raft
That same thing happened to me on my first playthrough and then I never saw the Great White again until wayyyyy later, werid.
Man if they remade this game with smoother animal animations, smarter animal AI, at next gen level
That would be awesome
Agreed!
And co-op up to 4 players
The game does have a few exceptions the big grouper is actually called a goliath grouper and garden sharks do not surface they are normally depths of around 3000 to 2000 feet below the ocean there’s only a few recorded videos and pictures are incredibly rare species
Granted I am three years late so it could’ve been updated but the stingrays definitely do damage, I’ve been stung by one
Black reef sharks are the worst! How are they not on here? Is that a console thing or?
Yeah on PC (at least since last I played which admittingly was awhile ago.) they are harmless to the player. I mention the the Reef shark briefly in the Passive category at 3:08 :)
Wow :)))
Thanks, alot. You helped me alot :D
Glad to help! :)
Me wondering why a marlin and great white gives 4 large meat but a whale shark only gives 3 large meat and why great white is bigger an has more hp than a whale shark
My only guess would be that the Marlin is harder to kill so they wanted to give you a better reward.
@@AnUnlikelyHero yeah I guess and me also remembering the uhhh oh “whale eating boss” wink wink is smaller than whale shark cuz it’s just a reskin and recode great white if you get close enough it just literally says Greta whit shark while hovering over it
Does turning the wildlife passive effect getting PS4 trophies at all?
I am not sure, I play Stranded Deep on PC.
@@AnUnlikelyHero It doesn't I found out 😁 I'm about to get the platinum. Just the magnets one
The marlin does attack
At one point when the game came out I believe they were, but not when I made this video they were not. 👍
@@AnUnlikelyHero ok, thanks :)
I just gotta say I love your voice
Appreciate that! ❤️ Maybe I’ll make an ASMR video in the future lololol
the things that makes no sense is u can get 3 large meat whale shark which is massive but a marlin which almost 2 times smaller gives 4 like however i will never kill such a friendly shark like the whale shark i actually named him wallie because i see him as a friend:)
Yeah there's definitely something just terrifying about being underwater and an enormous shark just swimming right at you lol
I'm guessing this is on PC. I've played through multiple times on console and have never a lot of these
Yes sir, I play on PC! I also have a PS4, but have never recorded from there.
I wonder of this is the same engine as The Forest
That's a great question. I looked it up and they are! They both use the Unity engine.
What do you get from white shark
Nice video
Thanks dude!
Sadly I’m on day 50 and have never seen a goblin shark ): only ever one hammerhead and I ALWAYS see tiger sharks daily and find them easier than the hammers to hit (bigger and slower) I want to hunt a goblin shark so bad but NEVER see them
wow that's weird, I usually see them following my raft around when I'm moving between islands. They're freaky little bastards lol
You forgot the bat. Also you make great content
Whoops! Pobodys nerfect :) And thank you 🙏
If u have bandages and if ur phisycal skill is high its best to fight the sharks in the water.
@@AnUnlikelyHeroThanks man! Time to do some deep water hunting.
Just be still for a seagull you could also get a reward
They only fly away if you move
Hey you missed the black tipped reef shark i think i killed 4 but it is a bit bigger then a reef shark and acts like a tiger shark.
In my game the snake became a stick like object as it was stiff and couldn't be changed from its position after killed
My game was like that to I have three stiff snakes and can’t even harvest them for food
Omg lol I had 3 last I played
