Hi, I too received a smoke damaged doll. The artist listed the doll as coming from a smoke fee environment but unfortunately that was not true. I got rid of the smell using white charcoal packets I purchased from Amazon. Worked like a charm! Just put the doll in an unscented white kitchen garbage bag with the charcoal packets for a few days and she's 99% smoke - smell free. Your doll is absolutely beautiful. Glad you were able to save her!
Oh man that’s so sad that someone would send and sell a doll in that condition. I’m glad you were able to fix her up. Oh I had a horror story of buying from eBay. The seller was in the uk and had very high rating but the doll I got looked nothing like her photos. It was heartbreaking. Her eyebrows rubbed off! I had Cari from bitty bunny reborn nursery fix her up and when she opened the doll up she was filled with what looked like dirty sand you sweep up off the floor. She cut her finger on the garbage she was stuffed with. I gave her a bad ratting and realized years later she commented calling me a liar. 😤 I documented it all on my ig so I just hope I helped even one person not be scammed by her.

She is adorable. I had one bad experience, I bought a baby off eBay a few years ago and I swear she was painted with some sort of child’s paint. The pictures were very misleading. When I opened her and picked her up the paint off her was all over my hands. I was shocked and disappointed. The seller was gone once I got the baby too, so lesson learned. Love the series. 🥰
I’ve helped a few friends with their babies that reek like smoke. Here is what you do that will get rid of the scent. Get a disposable Turkey or cake pan. Sprinkle the entire bottom of the pan w/ a mixture of baking soda and the carpet stuff you sprinkle on the floor. Lay a towel down over the mixture. Take the doll apart, order a new body from bountiful baby ($12) Lay the limbs and head on the towel, cover w/ another towel. Let set for a week. Smoke smell is gone! Also, April is my FAVORITE sculpt!! Yours is stunning!
I’m so sorry, it broke my heart when I saw her thrown in the box! I literally felt like crying! She is so beautiful but one advice is to open her up and see what’s been put inside! Plus you can wash the body and put new stuffing inside! All the best wishes for you! 🤗💝💖💝💖🌹💖💝💖🌹💝🌹💖🌹💝
I’m a smoker but Everytime I handle my babies I wash my hands. I’m very serious about that. I smoke downstairs far away from where my babies are in a room. I sold a few babies online that I bought from other artists, but I made sure they didn’t smell of smoke. I never had someone say any of my babies smelt like smoke when they received them. It’s respect for the person who is buying your dolls. You got to be so careful and be considerate to people buying them.
I just got a baby from a house a lot like your place by the sounds 10 other babys were sold with no conplant but boy oh boy dose that baby smell of smoke. I was told it's from a smokers house it's not a problem. I quite smoking a year ago and I don't know if that makes me sensitive to the smell or if other byers were smokers/live with one or if they just did not want to conplane I live in a very polite place.

I've had a few bad experiences, though I wouldn't call them scams. Mostly, it was artists that made bad decisions when creating the reborn that caused the poor baby to fall apart far too soon. I have had a reborn that came to me with a strong smoke smell. I put him into a trash bag with scent beads and left him in a drawer for a few weeks. It really helped, but the smell still lingers. I've just gotten used to it, because the baby is gorgeous. I appreciate all your advice in this video!

You could test hydrogen peroxide, dish soap, and baking soda. If it gets rid of skunk and mink smell, I don't think smoke would stand a chance. Just don't get it on anything rooted. Keep it away from hair, lashes, and brows. Test it. I'm not absolutely sure it won't damage paint. I don't think it would, but I'm not sure.
OMG, poor baby, that’s so sad how the seller sold the doll to you, and what terrible condition the seller had her in! These dolls are expensive, I don’t understand how someone would not take great care of their doll. You did a great job cleaning her up and reviving her, I would have never known she came in that condition. Thank you my friend! If I didn’t love this sculpt so much and this particular one I would have just returned her. I restored many dolls mostly my child dolls and some Middleton dolls that arrived in rough shape, so this as definitely a different experience being an expensive reborn. What’s crazy is the seller told me she paid over 1.5k for this doll and she was kept in that condition! Seji’s dolls are priced on the higher side but she does some gorgeous details on her dolls. Wow sweetheart- it’s so ironic that you made this video because I just recorded a video I’m uploading tomorrow about a doll I got and I quote Michelle (Shelbea), too 💕😂 Thankfully, I have not had this particular issue but I did have another couple in my early days of collecting and thank goodness I have an artist friend who helped me through one of the purchases off EBay. That being said, in a huge way, those experiences have helped me ask all the right questions and how to verify and, most of all- to trust my gut. Your April by Joanna Kasmierczak is beautiful sweetheart 🥰. I have been fortunate enough to find one myself but I’m noticing that she needs a bit of gloss (which I have but I haven’t had time to do just yet), and she was new. So, whether you are the second mommy or first (or even further down the line), learning maintenance is extremely important. Thank you for this video sweetie 🙏. I absolutely love your videos! Cigarette smoke is the absolute worst! I've heard putting a doll in a big sealed bag with cat litter is supposed absorb the smoke smell! I haven't tried it yet but I have a couple of vintage dolls that smell "old" that I will try this method on! Thank you for sharing her story with us! I'm so glad you got her into a state that she (and you) deserve 😘 xox

Sometimes a doll does not have a COA. It could have also been lost while changing hands with different owners. If there is no COA it very likely it could also not be an authentic kit. You can always ask what happened to the COA if one is not included. Another way to see if a doll should have a COA is to google the kit name to see if it comes with a COA. Good luck!
This baby girl is very sweet. I like her smiling face and beautiful hair very much. She is very pretty in her pink dress. She came to you in very bad condition, but now you like her the most. So it all ended good in the end with this baby girl. Best wishes from Sonja
Yeah the way she was just tossed into the shipping box was unacceptable- she should have been properly wrapped in a blanket - there was nothing else with her like a box opening should have been- it's a shame you had to throw away everything she did come with
I’m not sure I would have been able to keep the doll , or I would have had to have a friend get rid of the smell . It would have sent me into an asthma attack and I’d be in the ER . I HATE that some smokers are so inconsiderate of people . I always ask if what I’m buying has smoke or I won’t buy .

Definitely follow your instincts. I can say anytime I’ve had a bad feeling about buying/selling a doll something has gone wrong! I did feel that with this doll. Mercari has safeguards in place I could have gotten a full refund since the doll wasn’t sold as described. I chose to keep the doll instead. Take care! Xoxo 😘
I recently received a doll from a prototype artist who seemed very reputable, and my doll came beautifully made as pictured, but it was missing a COA. The kit comes with one but it's also an open kit, so not sure if I should really need one.. still, kind of wish I got one. Definitely should ask any artist during a transaction moving forward.

I oops’d my Charlotte just by sitting her in a painted wicker chair. Never happened with my others 😩 must just be a different kind of sealer on her. April is sweet. I have gotten Ashton drake dolls that stunk to high heaven back in the day.
Oh no sorry to hear that! I had paint rub off on a vinyl master piece doll but I got it off after a hard rub with soap and water on a washcloth. I did get a an Ashton drake that stunk not of smoke but of mildew it was awful. That one should have been returned too but I’m a big ol softy lol. I ended up giving that doll a bleach and Tide detergent in a water mixture bath 2x and it got most of the smell out. Xoxo 😘

Ive received a couple reborns and american girl dolls not as described. I immediately return, I refuse to take on someone elses problems.

I have had this same experience. A baby that smells like smoke is the absolute worst in my opinion. I was so mad 😡 because I really wanted the baby.

Speaking of Certificates of Authenticity... Should all *new* reborns come with one? I see some sellers saying there is no COA.
Sometimes a doll does not have a COA. It could have also been lost while changing hands with different owners. If there is no COA it very likely it could also not be an authentic kit. You can always ask what happened to the COA if one is not included. Another way to see if a doll should have a COA is to google the kit name to see if it comes with a COA. Good luck!

I did get a an Ashton drake that stunk not of smoke but of mildew it was awful. That one should have been returned too but I’m a big ol softy lol. I ended up giving that doll a bleach and Tide detergent in a water mixture bath 2x and it got most of the smell out. Xoxo 😘
