  • This video will help you to replace the key battery on a Landrover Freelander and Discovery 3 Key
You need a high quality CR2032 key battery inside, otherwise the car will have trouble recognising the car key. Buy a new key battery from Amazon by clicking the link below.
    amzn.to/2LF0HOB
So the new proximity key from Land Rover, quite easy to change the battery on these. First of all, you need to get this chrome cover off. So push it from this end, and that just pops off. And here is the emergency key. So the emergency key, you just pop that out, that's what you use if you need to open the door. It unfolds and there you go, and you just use it like that in the lock. So that's that. And then this leaves you with the remote. So the key case splits down this line in two, all the way around, and you need to get something just inside, in between here, to open it up. So you just need to be a bit careful. Pop the screwdriver. It's a little bit tricky. And then once you've got a bit of a gap, just carefully open that up. And there's your key battery.
So you can see there that is a Maxell 2032. Just carefully pop that out and pop a new one in. Okay. So then we go on and just pop the cover back on. Just make sure that that gap is fully closed. Pop your blade back in. So the last thing you need to do is to put this on, slide it down. If it doesn't go on, just ... It only goes on one way, so just try it the other way. And there you go. That's with a five button proximity key, and you are good to go.

After removing emergency key, when the fob is picked up in the video you can see an arrow with a straight line marked on the case to the extreme right. Directly above there is a square hole. Put emergency key in the hole and gently twist and the fob opens without messing about with screwdrivers.

That’s NOT the way you open the case. What you do is take the emergency key and insert it in the slot in the bottom edge and twist. The case easily snaps apart without levering the case along the seam to split it.

Great vid but you can use the emergency key to prise the fob open by just poking it into the slot at the base of the emergency key compartment. This is the intended way of opening it up.

Instead of prying open that end with a screwdriver, you can follow the diagram on the opposite side (left hand at 1:08.) Insert the blade key and turn, much easier. The transmitter outer layer are know to delaminate and prying will accelerate that process.

Initially, insert the screw driver at the at the other end of the key, near the white graphic of a half circle arrow, there is a hole there and a twist of the screw driver more easily opens the split between the two halves.
