I have 2 1996 Yamaha's and have the same problem . My collection of earmuffs is plenty. Each spring I try them all and you never know which one will work better. So you are not alone on this problem

I found the cheap round muffs seem to work the best.

About to try the rectangular muffs with the dual flow on my Yamaha F90 2006. Just got the impeller changed, and hoping I’ll see that stream.

HeyJoe, I am so glad I found your videos. Wished I would have found you a couple of years ago. I acquired a 1992 Yamaha 40 MSHQ. It’s hard to find information I need. It hade been sitting up for awhile and it’s obvious that when ever something broke the previous owner would rig something up rather than replace parts. After I replaced everything in the all three carburetors I had a hard time with link and sync. Part of the reason is there’s linkage or something missing to where the throttle is not triad into the CDI. Instead there’s a piece of stiff wire hooked to it coming out the cowling and I had to control the CDI by moving the wire in and out. Currently have to use it to control the idle then when I want to use the throttle I have to pull the wire at the same time. I’ve figured out and fixed the rest of the problems I found but I don’t know how or what’s missing.
I’ll be checking out the rest of your videos. Especially since you covered an older Yamaha in this one. Mine doesn’t like muffs either I have to use the round ones and clamp them. I’ll be getting a set like yours now.
Thanks for the information videos keep it up.

Excellent, I just bought the one that didn't work for my old Yamaha, and I debated on the winner but it was several more dollars, so I guess back to the store. Thanks! I think you're right on that twist and the circular muffs deliver more even pressure to seal on the runner up model.

Great video. I have the first one. Garbage for my Yamaha. The cheap last one is the one that works for me.

I’ve got the first 2 types you tested for my 130hp Yammy I had no issues using either but I prefer the one’s you tested first because the water comes in both sides.

It can be a pain but as long as you have good flow should be good to go!

What if you put muff #2 in a vise and gave it a muff adjust squeeze? My Yamaha 50 (2006) that I bought yesterday came with the round one but really looks like it needs a fairly narrow rectangular one. Good video

I was just breaking in my new Yamaha 115 and when I went to do the flush, I couldn’t get water out the tell-tale. I have the rectangle muffs! Going to upgrade to the dual hose muffs and try again. Thanks!
