1994 Music Awards and SXSW Showcase (Austin Music Network, ca. 1996)

This highlight reel (aired on AMN in 1996) provides clips from the 1994 Austin Music Awards and takes you in and around SXSW '94. See and hear from the likes of Don Walser and the Pure Texas Band, Nic Barbaro, Margaret Moser, Louis Black, the Ian Moore Band, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, and more. There are performance excerpts of the Austin Music Awards jam session and Doug Sahm & The Sons of Sahm. There's also the SXSW '94 keynote address from Johnny Cash, scenes and "man on the street" style clips from around the convention center, and a snapshot of "SXSW nightlife" (aka 6th Street). The video closes with a visit to the SXSW BBQ and Softball event where SXSW organizers and guests give their reflections on SXSW '94. While SXSW was covered extensively on Austin's public access channel in previous years, SXSW 1994 was the first year the Austin Music Network covered the festival (AMN made its on-air debut April 1 of that year).
