I am very lucky.I am now 70, and worked in the opera wardrobe department at Covent Garden for many years. So, I have heard (and met) many of the great singers, well since 1965 when I started!
BRAVA!!!!
One of the great mezzo sopranos of all time. When she first performed at the Met I listened to her Azucena and was bowled over. Then I listened to her Amneris and was awed by the brilliance of her performance. She is a legend, along with Stignani, Barbieri, and Simionato.
@@KajiVocals dimitrova's voice has an iciness to it while dolora's is fairly golden and warm. Hmm about her tessitura. I dont think she has the stamina up there to sustain lyric or spinto roles. What do you think? Lower lying soprano roles for sure but all that suggests she is a mezzo with good high notes.
I got to the conclusion, that real mezzo-soprano voice type, does not exist,it was an morfology of the theater, that demanded or invented the voice type of mezzo-soprano and baritone. In. Mozart time, they were classified as soprano seconda. That classification still is use in the chorus.
The way she ignores the triplets Verdi wrote in his score for "è necessario" in favor of a rhythm that's more natural for the language is exactly the kind of boss move you make when you truly understand the music.
Could she really be an spinto or a Dramatic soprano, singing mezzo Repertoire? From the beggining Of her carrear, people always Talking if she was a real mezzo Or an spinto or a dramatic soprano.
Alfredo Loyola yes definitely a Dramatic Mezzo it’s just that her top is always there, unfortunately in this day an age were used to a lot of “screamy” Mezzos and that shouldn’t be so. What makes her a Mezzo is that added “5th” throughout the voice that gives the lower register a dominate temper over the voice. Meaning that her voice sits there vs let’s say Birgit Nilsson who just had really great low notes.
@@Marcus-xd8ux , that's not true at all. A "dramatic" voice is one that's big and powerful. It doesn't mean if a voice is "dramatic", then it's automatically a soprano, with an upper register that blooms and opens up, which is what makes a soprano a soprano. Even though many mezzo sopranos have a high range like sopranos, what makes them mezzos is the fact that the higher notes are focused and/or thins out. To assume that all dramatic mezzos are lazy, is perhaps is a form of laziness itself, in not doing a little more research.
To me she is dramatic soprano of a great size, I don't hear her mezzo. Especially on the higher notes it is very obvious. The color is of soprano, not mezzo. Wonderful singer, brava!
I have my doubts about a mezzo singing properly well the song as it should be sung by sopranos instead, however Zajick proved that the role might be actually even better sung for true mezzos, eventhough sacrificying a bit the upper coloratura lightier notes, yet the role for this huskier and darker voice type is actually fiercer and bitter awesome as the character does requieres it, whenever couldn´t be a proper dramatic coloratura soprano voice as Maria Callas did so well in her time, a cool mezzo as Dolora should instead be chosen as the best choice then. (It makes even better sense how she has Macbeth, a barytone, as her mate, whereas when a soprano sings it, mades some dissonance about how could she being a lightier and brightier voice type as soprano, eventhough as for an evil role, could be the match of a rather "evil"/complex antiheroic lead role as Macbeth who is a barytone - my guess is Verdi was playing on irony issue too as Lady Macbeth is rather more evil than her husband after all, yet still... odd soprano/barytone match, whereas a mezzo voice makes better sense too.)
Great singing but this is not the Azucena role. It needs to be a soprano to give it the required brilliance, like in the role of Abigaille (Nabucco). However it is a very enjoyable performance by itself.
That laugh in the middle of the aria always makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end!
Yep, I wouldn't like to meet her Lady Macbeth on a dark night! LOL
