@lucashamilton151 Have you heard Dolora Zajick live? I heard her live on several occasions. In fact I was in the chorus during one of her performances as Anmeris in "Aida". Her chest voice, the middle voice and the top were were equally big and grand. Believe me when I say that the Zajick instrument could cut through any size orchestra, chorus and rattle the rafters of any theatre. She was a force of nature. Also heard her as Azucena in "Il Trovatore" and in concert. Unforgettable.
What I love about Zajick is she is the perfect study for singers. She is a great study for technique, proper facial posture, breathing and support, squillo, etc. And she sings beautifully!
Would you people shut up about Obraztsova?? This is a clip with Dolora Zajick - if you don't like it, please tell us why based on what Mme Zajick actually DOES, instead of what she DOESN'T do ( = sound like Obraztsova)!

Dolora is great here !!! No idea of who the conductor is, I just feel he has no sense of urgency in the introduction, and he tends to conduct the whole aria slightly too slowly...
I don't recognize the aria - what is it? I once watched this artist leave an all-star cast in the dust, in Don Carlo. The Elizabeth might as well not have shown up.
Ive always felt that Zajic has a a splendid top and low notes, but some strange sounds in-between, where she seems to chew the sounds and words,are distorted, but at least it was a real operatic voice.
I thought she was great until I heard Elena Obratszova. You can hear how Dolora has big chest no middle and woofy high notes. But she is obviously fantastic. I think voice comparison is interesting and educational. But both singers are exceptional, even though Elena O has moved on to higher plains of consciousness.
She has good chest voice, and sadly that's the loudest part of this performance. Her middle notes are weak and lack of clarity. In performances of singers with great chest coordination like Barbieri, Dominguez, Obraztsova,... the volume of the middle range is adjustable.

Zajick is amazing~! Her "The Art of the Dramatic Mezzo-soprano" album is astounding. She even does some Rossini (Semiramide) which is awsome.
She is fast becoming one of my favorite singers. Love this woman!!

Actually, I think she's more musically sensitive here than Obraztsova -- nice interpretive dynamics.

the character, Princess de Bouillon, is no longer loved by Maurizio.
