      Hi Takeshi, Thank-you very much for your videos.
      I liked your video on the Shikoku Shinkansen plans. Would it be possible for some videos to be created on the other planned Shinkansen routes, for example the Sanin Shinkansen?
      ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%B1%B1%E9%99%B0%E6%96%B0%E5%B9%B9%E7%B7%9A
      It would be interesting to know where the stations for these planned Shinkansen lines might be, and which route the Shinkansen lines will take.

      HI Takeshi. there are some question regarding shinkansen
      1. after route to sapporo was done, are there possible to have night shinkansen leave tokyo/sapporo at late night and arrive at early morning.
      2. regarding question 1, why there are no overnight nozomi shinkansen from hakata to tokyo or even kagoshima to tokyo. direct nozomi from hakata to tokyo take 5 hour. that actually possible to have some train running overnight with limited speed and take 6 hour hakata to tokyo so it can depart at 11PM and arrive at 5PM
      3. do you already compared the shinkansen design with other HSR on another country? why E5/E6/alfa-X have very long nose? if to reach high speed compared with ICE/CRH train, the nose is not to long but have fastest operational speed.
      apologize for long post. just curious with that and i think there will be great topic to be discussed :)

      The Shinkansen basically does not operate between 0:00 and 6:00. There are two main reasons.
      1. In Japan, regulations on noise are strict. It is difficult to operate the Shinkansen at midnight.
      2. For safe operation, maintenance time is secured from 0:00 to 6:00.
      Also, JR Central has unified all Shinkansen cars to the same model (N700A and N700S), so they will not manufacture cars that can only be used at night.
      I haven't compared vehicles from other countries because I'm not very familiar with them. The long nose of Japanese Shinkansen vehicles is to reduce air resistance and noise. Lowering air resistance is more about improving ride quality than speed. Also, regarding noise, this is to reduce the noise generated especially when entering a tunnel as much as possible.

    So that’s why there is such a long walk to the Keiyo line platforms from the Yaesu and Marunouchi exits!
    Depending where you are coming from, it might be faster overall to choose to alight at Tokyo Metro Yurakucho instead of at Tokyo station if you wish to continue to the Keiyo line.
    Thank you for this presentation!

    The Keisei Skyliner is such a nice train. Occasionally I’ll ride it just for the sake of it as someone who loves trains. Honestly to and from Tokyo it’s the best option. Granted the last stop is Keisei Ueno it still reaches the fastest time to and from the airport, while being convenient and a nice Shinkansen feeling train.

    Thank you very much for this video. I was aware that the Sanrizuka Struggle was one of the reasons for the cancellation of the Narita Shinkansen, but I was not aware of the Nagoya Lawsuit. I really appreciate this video and I will do further research on the lawsuit.

      With many underground subway systems in Japan and if noise pollution was a factor, I wonder why they didn't consider tunnels.
      Even to this day Uneonis the only underground Shinkansen station. I don't know why viaducts are the preferred method.

    Your videos are very interesting, Takeshi-san. As a citizen of Kazakhstan, country which was in USSR, the transportation system in Japan surprised me a lot. We, in the capital of 1 million people(Astana) don't have any metro, commuter rail, monorail, there are only buses. Also, maximum speed of trains are 90-100 km per hour, only "Talgo" express trains can reach 140, not more. Shinkansen-is really fantastic project. Even, transportation system in Moscow is magical for me, but Tokyo and generally Japan surpassed all the world. It is really romantic feeling, when you can reach to a village with 500 p or 1K people by train. Amazing!

    If the shinkansen plan went through, we wouldn't have had Keisei trains going direct to Narita, and with it Keisei-Asakusa-Keikyu connection, meaning we also would not have had a physical direct route between Haneda and Narita for free.

    Do you know where we can find more information about the planned Oshiage-Sengakuji route? Is there any expectation for it to happen or is it still in the planning phase?

    Well, the Keisei Skyliner is pretty fast, so I guess that’s a mini-Shinkansen in itself. Also, there were riots and protest at the Narita Airport construction site, so the “Narita Shinkansen” would have faced the same protests....

      Isn’t the Keisei Sky Access Line right of way what they originally planned for the Narita Shinkansen?

    • @attache675
      @attache675 2 роки тому

      It’s a great option and the best one to and from Narita. Bus takes too long and there is cause for concern on possible traffic delays and NEX is only good if you’re traveling past Tokyo down to Yokohama/Ofuna area. But for Tokyo it’s the Keisei Skyliner by a mile.

  • @kheminw

    Wow, I’ve always wondered why the Keiyo line section of Tokyo Station kinda resembles the Shinkansen section of other major stations in Japan, despite the fact that it’s just a line that connects Tokyo to Disneyland and Chiba. I still have a question though: how did people go to Narita back during the 80s and 90s when there weren’t any “Airport Express” trains in operation? Wouldn’t it be hugely inconvenient to take a bus there just to hop on a short domestic flight?
    By the way, a high-speed line that will connect 3 major airports in Thailand is being built at the moment, and I really hope that it doesn’t get cancelled like the Narita Shinkansen haha

    • @JPRailcom
      @JPRailcom  3 роки тому +2

      Most passengers took a limousine bus to get to the Narita Airport. It was so inconvenient but no choices.
      Keisei Railway had a line to Narita Airport station which is the current Higashi-Narita station. But as I mentioned in the video, it was not connected to the terminal directly and this was so inconvenient too.

    great content as usual. btw do you have information why tohoku shinkanshen and tokaido shinkanshen not connected?

    • @Yamamba
      @Yamamba 3 роки тому

      Its because the Tohoku Shinkansen is operated by JR East while the Tokaido Shinkansen is operated by JR Central, if this also happened, you would see rolling stock like the E5 series traveling on the Tokaido Shinkansen or the N700 on the Tohoku Shinkansen.

    • @wellyalb
      @wellyalb 3 роки тому +1

      @@Yamamba but sanyo shinkanshen connected to tohoku shinkanshen at shin-osaka and sanyo shinkanshen connected to kyushu shinkanshen at hakata. both of them not operated by JR Central so i think there are another reason.

    • @Yamamba
      @Yamamba 3 роки тому

      @@wellyalb @Welly Al Binanto Well yes but the difference is they use relatively same rolling stock and also cover the west/southern side of Japan so it makes more sense, however JR East basically takes all of East Japan and has different rolling stock. The only other company they do through service with is JR West owned area of the Hokuriku Shinkansen and also the Hokkaido Shinkansen. By the way, the Sanyo Shinkansen doesn't connect to the Tohoku Shinkansen.

    • @33jtm33
      @33jtm33 3 роки тому

      @@wellyalb Don't know how relevant this is but there are differences in electricity supply between the Tokaido and Tohoku Shinkansen. Tokaido has a 60 Hz supply, Tohoku has a 50 Hz supply. So the trains would need to be built to be compatible with both types of supply.
      The significant speed differences on the Tokaido line versus the Tohoku line would demand vehicles capable of a higher speed than the current N700 series run at.
      The most likely reason though is simply that they were built at different times and there was likely no great incentive to have through services at Tokyo. Operations would be complicated by changing companies as well.

    • @kuanysh_sartay
      @kuanysh_sartay 3 роки тому

      @@wellyalb completely agree with you. So, the answer for the last question I personally think, that Tokyo station is positioned as hub for Shinkansen trains and it must be constructed as station for direct operation between Tohoku Shinkansen and Tokaido Shinkansen. Shinjuku station, despite it is a giant hub for commuter and intercity trains, couldn't provide this direct transfer to Tohoku and Joetsu Shinkansen from Tokaido Shinkansen. Also, after JNR reorganized in 1987, JR East wanted to save itself and focused in commuter service and ruled a protective policy on Shinkansen which divided Tokaido with other Shinkansen lines, in order to make more profit. Another reason, is that Shinjuku station is highly overcrowded, so Joetsu Shinkansen could make some troubles such as, capacity and traffic jams of people in rush hours. Rebuilding of Tokyo station is cheaper than Shinjuku in that case. The third reason, if Joetsu Shinkansen positioned itself as high-speed transport, the direct transfer to Tokyo station is important factor, so it is not necessary and profitable to make a round from Omiya station via Shinjuku to Tokyo. So, Joetsu Shinkansen connected to Tokyo via Omiya and Ueno, rather than turning to Shinjuku which takes a lot of time. The last reason, is that Shinjuku station take a lot of profit from passengers and may be JR East wanted that Ueno and Omiya, also Tokyo will get a lot of passenger to increase their capacity.
