      What’s wrong with the small groups? Also how does it help? I do agree though that control over the world regardless if they are big or small is unethical. The way the governments of the world seem to control is with money and violence and we accept it as if we have no power to change it. For context I also think we as people, individually have to look inside ourselves to realize we do have the power to change the world around us.

    Dude I come from a third world country and can tell you that people will always hate no matter what, but here in the US anyone can really make it only if they have the right mindset and put the right time and effort in.

    This is the classic meme that the right loves, this idea that anyone 'could' make it or lose it therefore equality. Sure this is true to the extent that occasionally people move upwards or downwards in class. However, what happens in reality is that the vast majority of people remain in the class they grew up in, and the people that grew up in upper-middle income, two parent households in a safe neighborhood with good schools consistently do better in life than those who did not grow up with those things. This is just a fact. So, how do we justify some people needing to jump over 30 hurdles rather than 1 or 2 to find success in the country? This is the primary justification for why most 'liberal' types advocate for 'equity' rather than some version of institutional equality. Getting caught up in this equity/equality definition game is unproductive, the question you should simply ask yourself is: is this aspect of society just/fair/good?
    Personally I find it pretty hard to justify the kid born in to a low income, singe parent household having to struggle more to do well in life and having less room for error to make a good life than the middle class kid, or the trust fund kid.

      It's life. We are not born equal. There's nothing for it, and the thought that the government in any form can rectify that is human arrogance, and doomed to failure.

    • @uhhhfrick9767
      @uhhhfrick9767 Місяць тому +1

      @@EuphratesGermaine And yet, the governments of most nations around the world already do this. There is example after example of social services, safety nets, and infrastructure that promote positive outcomes for disadvantaged people. Even something as simple as a progressive tax system is an example of this. Doomed to failure is a bit dramatic don't you think? Life is for sure unfair, we are definitely not born equal, but NOTHING can be done for it? How so? How is it that some countries experience far greater levels of inequality than others? What dictates this variation? Any reasonable person would point to the obvious: government policy. To even attempt to maintain the position that government has no agency or control over inequality/inequity in a given society requires the absolute peak of libertarian/anti-government delusion.

    You're missing too much on this topic for me to reasonably go into, but I disagree with your opinion. Saying that the balance is perfect only suggests that you don't have enough experience with where the balance is not perfect. It is practically impossible for the balance to be perfect and equality is not something we achieve, its a perfection that we constantly strive for so that we are always looking to better our future.
    Equality or equity doesn't need to be about giving everyone the same leg up though even if one was to do that, the assumption that this would make it too easy doesn't really hold weight. Doing anything is hard, the government isn't going to run your business for you even if they help you start it. Realistically, if one group are going to struggle to make it and they get a leg up because of that, there's no need to give that leg up to anyone else. They don't need help. Its not about making sure everyone has handouts but rather its about making sure that anyone who wants to make it, has a fair shot at it. Some people have a worse starting hand but helping those people doesn't detract from anyone as long as everything is considered carefully.
    Also, economics isn't a zero-sum game so making it easier get into business would probably just boost the economy. Everyone has more money to spend: everyone wins.
    We have a wealth based economy so working hard/smart isn't even that highly valued when compared to the value of already having money invested. This has an effect on wealth inequality and is made worse if working people can't earn enough to save money so that they can accumulate wealth.
    People with vision and aspiration are the backbone of a thriving economy. Those people can come from anywhere but if they don't have the resources to start they wont; and the economy (and society) will suffer as a result.
    You might think that those "others" should just work harder/smarter, but people are only willing to work so hard for the life they desire. You might not perceive it to be your problem, but if most people aren't able to generate wealth or don't make enough to live comfortably, you will notice it. If the average person doesn't have money for average things, eventually those who are above average will feel a squeeze and it will ripple upwards. The economy is a game we're all in together so its in our best interest to push for greater equality if possible, and it is always possible.

    As you pointed out, many/most have equal opportunities in America or at least did in recent history. However, most aren't talking about that when they demand equality. They want equal outcomes of the most successful/wealthy people, but of course without matching the effort or sacrifices that those successful/wealthy people consistently gave. Unfortunately, though, it looks likely we will have equal outcomes fairly soon, because most will be broke and in very, very bad financial shape. That is the equality that socialism is actually promising, but too few bother to learn it.

    I do disagree with a lot of this, but I do also see where you're coming from. To me it seems to me that you have had to work hard to get where you are today, correct me if I'm wrong, and that has payd off. This is admirable, and you would then of course deserve a good life with good outcome. However, where I think you are wrong is where you assume that since working hard (or smart) worked for you it will work for everyone, and that it is the only way to achieve success. This is far from the case. Many people work very hard, and very smart but never even get to taste anything of success. There are also many people who wont even have to do as much as lift a finger to inherit all the success in the world. Equity, or equality of outcome isn't really about ensuring that "lazy" people achieve the same amount of success as others, it's about ensuring that everybody who works hard can achieve success.

      I understand what you’re saying, but I think you basically said the same thing Nathan just said in a roundabout way.
      Answers for many of our questions can oftener be found in nature, humans tend to think too much and feel too little. humanity has many issues no doubt and it's honestly never ever going to be perfect by any some arbitrary standard of living. I think what Nathan is saying is, People think Government is the answer to everything when in truth, the only reason and way government is funded is the people, people need to understand that government is not a business for profit, everything government does has to be funded the people in which it serves, if everyone that works has to pay for those who are unwilling, then it becomes unattainable in a New York Minute.
      The far left lunatics think they should received public funds that do not belong to them for the purpose of this thing called equality, there will always be hierarchy of some degree, in America it’s up to the people to elect those that have our best interest in mind, unfortunately the entire political system and government as a whole has been highjacked and the systems of systems is doing everything in it’s power to keep us all infighting and distracted with all sorts of bull shit so they (the System) can continue screwing us) and around and around we go. It’s a complicated and deep subject but were never going to be able to solve this puzzle until we start having open and honest dialog with what’s really happening, and sadly, this is like pulling teeth from a saber tooth tiger
