    Hey guys, so a lot of people have been asking me how much I paid for the used 33mm f/1.4 and it’s was a smidge over £400. On reflection I wouldn’t trade your lenses in here but in my case I wanted to lighten the load as I’m travelling. Any of questions, shoot them here. Thanks

    When I played around with the Fujifilm system I was thinking about this lens a lot, because of its good reputation.
    But in the end I decided against it and went the Fujicron f2 route - simply because of the size and f2 was enough for me. But the images are looking stunning and that 1.4 is just handy :)
    Enjoy your new lens mate! :)

    Your videos nearly had me convinced to get the sigma 56mm. In a fit of impulse I’ve picked up the Fuji 50mm f2 on eBay today. The aperture ring swung it for me.
    Enjoy the new lens!

    I've bought most of my Fuji lenses from Map Camera on eBay. Their physical store looks so cool. Looks like the 33 is treating you well.
    The 18 1.4 WR is a must have. You'd really enjoy it.

    For me the 33 feels a bit like something out of a business strategy plan of Fujifilm. It offers everything pro's want. It has the clinical specs and sharpness basically any other top tier lens of any other brand will also produce. It may still have a bit of the character of the 35, but it lost most of it.
    Some people think it is the bokeh or focus roll-offs which make the 35 have it's look. But the 33 has almost identical images in that regard. The look of the 35 really comes from all distortions and things like halation or chromatic abberations. Which the 33 has got rid of entirely.
    The other thing rarely mentioned is that the 35mm is a way less heavy piece of glass than the new 33mm. And don't get me started about the size difference. The 35 is way smaller...
    And that is why I feel like it is a bit of a weird lens. Where Fujifilm decided to let go of their street and 'character' image. To just bate people in to buying it for it's raw specs. Which is why I don't get the hype around such expensive and clinical lens. It really has not that much special to deliver for 900$ (!!!) While I bought my 35 on the second hand market for less than 300$. Sure it's sharpness is a bit worse. But dear do I remember the day shooting it for the first time, right after I bought it.
    It's character makes up everything it lacks compared to the 33. So for me it is a clear choice. If you do street photography, or at least care about the size and weight of your gear. Which ironically is one of the few big reasons to go with Fujifilm camera's in the first place... I do not see any reason to go with the 33.
    It will cost you a liver and ahalf. It will be heavy and not very disguisable at all. And the 33's pro's all take away from the proces of taking pictures and the experience you can get from a lens with strong character.
    My history with vintage glass and lenses like the 35 teached me the lesson that an out of focus picture isn't bad just because it is out of focus. Just yesterday I shot with an industar 50-2 tiny old russian lens. Got some great shots, with very little sharpness...
    The sharpness race is one that you can only take as far as the output display or format will reproduce. Sharpness is nice. AF plays a role here too, so I get why some pro's prefer the reliability. Be it that if you are not needing critical focus 100% of the time, I think the slower proces and working around limitations will actually improve the images you take.
    Sure with portraits and other high stress work sharpness and AF is important. And I'm not here to attack people just because they got the 33 ;)
    But in my experience, which mostly is street and some portrait, the 35 does the job fine. It will be a keeper for sure. And for the price it is unbeatable. Even against the 33...

    I understand the lenses that slip away into the not used... I have too many lenses, and my biggest issue right now is, all I want to shoot with is the X100VI
    I wont sell my 2 sigma lenses (I got the 23mm F/1.4 and 56mm F/1.4 as they are both so good) these are only lenses I have in my kit bag now
    but I have so many lenses in my locker that just don't get used very often, but I can't part with them.
    The only lenses I have ever sold was the 16-80 F/4 as I was offered more than I paid for it in a kit with the X-T3 and the XC 35mm F/2 as we have the 35mm F/1.4 and I moved to shooting 23mm way more often we didn't need two 35mm lenses

    To get the Fuji look on my 35mm 1.4 gm I shoot f6 or f7. 🤷‍♂️ I love the images when I had Fuji and the 33mm 1.4 it just spoiled me a little when I went full frame because I didn’t like results I got with cheaper glass.

    I just traded in my XF33 f1.4 for a Viltrox 27 f1.2. The 33 is awesome, but i to often wished i would have the 23 as well, but this would have been 1 lens to much for light travel, so i took the middle and got the perfect compromis. The IQ is awesome as well, definately on the same level as the 23 and the 33.

      I would really like to try that 27mm. I’ve only heard good things and have been constantly recommended it. I’ll give this a go and see how it performs after a while of use

    • @phild5322
      @phild5322 5 місяців тому +3

      Just done the opposite. The 27mm’s aperture ring often rubs my fingers when holding my X-H2, as it really is a chunky lens! If you obsess over sharpness then yes the Viltrox is a steal, but if you factor in colour, natural rendering, AF performance and size, then the 33mm is absolutely worth the extra money in my experience

      I use the 23 and 33 on trips and used to own the 75/1.2 - it was just too big. If the 27 is smaller then probably ok - but in general I use the X system also for its size. But naturally a 1.2 needs the size so… tradeoffs. If you need the best AFC performance then go for one of the Fujis. If you mainly like to use one lens then the 27 is excellent but you should not mind the bulk. I came to love the new Fuji lenses.

    This video helped me. I've been mulling over the Sigma 56mm f/1.4 and watched your video reviewing it, but I couldn't quite pull the trigger on it. I've also been mulling over the Fuji 50mm f/2 and the 56mm f/1.4 WR. Like you said, I'm a bit concerned about the lack of the aperture ring on the Sigma, even though so many people are keen on that lens. But the 50mm is a bit short and the 56mm has some knocks on the older AF they didn't upgrade to linear motors. Any thoughts or suggestions? BTW, I have both the Fuji 18mm f/1.4 and the 33mm f/1.4. Amazing glass. Grab that 18mm before ya go home. Just sayin'. Keep up the great work, Jay!

    • @Jay_Ducker
      @Jay_Ducker  5 місяців тому

      Firstly, I may or may not have bought the 18mm already 😉 video coming soon on that. Ok well ask yourself about your budget first, how much do you want to to spend and second how often do you shoot with that focal length. The sigma at the time was perfect for me because I don’t use that focal length much and it was much cheaper than the Fuji 56mm. If that’s you favourite focal length go with Fuji but you can probably get that sigma used quite cheap. It’s very lightweight too compared to that 56mm. I probably wouldn’t consider the 50mm, personally. Not my focal length once again. Hope that helps

I carry a little heavier than som so in my daily i have my 50 f2 and 90 f2 as well. 4 lenses that can cover so much. I absolutely love my fuji kit i am able to get great photos almost anywhere. I hope you went ahead and grabbed the 18. It took me a bit to learn the composition of it but man that lens is glued on my camera when ever there is a bit of a crowd or i go inside.

    I think it’s definitely a great lens, but in terms of size, especially on a larger body like an X-H2 we are now in the realm of full frame cameras … and I am a afraid Fuji looses its size advantage. I deliberately bought the 35mm/1.4 because it looks beautiful and it’s tiny and it’s inspiring me… the new Fuji lenses are just like all the other brands

      WR and better Auto Focus. Some claim 35 has more character and is less sterile.

    • @AnoshterHaar
      @AnoshterHaar 5 місяців тому

      @@JustinIkeda Don't forget the weight and build quality. The 35 is build a bit cheaper. But being very low weight makes it win regardless of image quality. It is soo much lighter and smaller. If you care about the size of your camera, which if you ever bought into Fujifilm apc's in the first place should be at least a priority, the 35 wins by a long shot.
