I remember 18 year old Sidney Crosby setting up Palffy on the Powerplay way back in '05. The Penguins sucked but everyone knew the best was yet to come
Great video. I’m getting back into hockey and I’m almost 40. It’s been about 15 years since I played or really paid attention to NHL. Ziggy is one of my fav players ever. He is a hall of famer to me. Playing on the islanders vs the devils or avalanche or red wings in those times was a big diff. Great player and thank you for this video, enjoyed it thoroughly
Žigooo! :) :D This made my day. Žigo was a great player. He's a hero to me and many people here in Slovakia. Great choice for the video. EDIT: Oh, he mentions his hero status in the video, too. Good.
Ziggy might not be remembered much now or mean a lot to fans around the league, but to me being a young islanders fan watching him make amazing plays and goals on an awful islander team...it gave me reason to cheer
Yeah, the Kings had had a hard time earning some success at that point, and whacking the "Wings" was an awful lot of fun. Smolenski did a great job shadowing Federov, and the whole team worked their butts off to give themselves a chance for Deadmarsh's "stake through the heart" goal. Ziggy was a super slick player with what seemed to me was always a great attitude. There are certain players that are so fun to watch you would be happy to pay for a ticket just to watch them play even if the team was outmatched. Deadmarsh was one of those guys, Ziggy was another. Crosby said some great things about him, and that ain't bad!
A point per game is a heck of an accomplishment. We sometimes forget how incredibly talented these guys are. This guy is a great hockey player. Like many others, he deserves to be remembered.
I got his autograph several times he couldn’t be any nicer he had one hell of a slap shot that he didn’t use as much as his wrist shot he was a lot of fun to watch
That gold medal was the happiest i think i ever was :D :D :D He scored the winnig goal in the shootout in the semifinals and then in the final he passed for the winning goal 100 seconds before the...i liked hockey before but that moment made me a lifelong fan. People in the US remember where they were on 9/11 well, here in slovakia everyone remembers where they were when that goal was scored. Ziggy was absolute beast, his passing and ability to see whats happening on the ice was incredible. ZI GO SI NAJ LEP ŠÍ
I recall Ziggy being acquired as the star attraction for the recently opened Staples Center. He’s no doubt one of the most skilled players to play the game.
Ah yes. Ziggy Palffy. Remember him when he was with the Kings in the early 2000s. He was very productive player when he was healthy. He's hardly talked about these days, but he was good player. To average over a point a game for his career is not too shabby.
If Ziggy had legit 1st line linemates(not Niklas Andersson) he would have had multiple 50goal, 100point seasons, in the dead puck era & would be remembered as one of the 5 best scoring Wingers of his era.
with Ziggy I'd say he has a HOF chance eventually but I loved the first name you said about not having a case against, Fleury needs to be in, literally theres probably 4-5 names to me that are criminally absent from the HOF but hes the biggest omission as a player, for me its 1. Fleury (HOF level career with what he had to live through which for me somewhat makes his drink/drug problems understandable), 2. Mogilny (HOF level career plus the story of his arrival to the NHL should definitely get him there), 3. CuJo (no cups mean nothing, a few legends of the game haven't got one), 4. Roenick (only not in because he actually had a personality that wasn't entirely PC) and 5. Osgood (knock is Detroit being too good but I disagree with that reason), oh and Don Cherry whatever anyone wants to say fairly about him the fact hes not in as a builder is absolutely ridiculous
@@romangagne5842 its criminal to me that hes not, yeah I understand why to a point, don't want to give someone who abused drink and drugs that honour, fair enough, but then theres why... defeats that argument completely to the point the fact he had a HOF level career despite those things, also in a biased way as an Englishman hes the most talented player ever to play in my home league when he joined the Belfast Giants and got named the league MVP at age 37 and having had all that stuff, says it all really
Every time I see Ziggy, I remember back to the 2001 playoffs round 2 Kings vs Avs. At the end of Game 4 there was a scrum between the two teams. Ziggy was in the middle of it and so was Rob Blake. Camera was on Blake and you can easily read his lips to Palffy “I will F--- you up”.
Fetisov in the NHL was excellent. Fetisov in Russia was GODLIKE. Watch footage of him in his prime, and you can see him going toe-to-toe with hockey legends and making brilliant plays. Any defenseman who can strip the puck from Gretzky AND Lemieux in a single game? I tip my hat to him.
Remember when the Isles refused to pay him when he became an RFA; they were terrible without him signed him and then the following season shipped him over to LA. Dark times of Islander hockey indeed. Still dealing with the fallout of the Spano situation. Would be fun if THG talked about the whole Spano debacle.
Ziggy's my favorite post Cup Era Islander. Maybe second to LaFontaine...it's close. He was one of those rare talents who, as soon as he stepped on the ice, you knew he was going to score a goal. Only Bossy before him and no once since. I always wished he'd have gotten to play with Turgeon.
hey hey I was wondering if you can make a video about the best comeback seasons. not sure if you have already done one but I found it intersting that Selanne had like 90 points after a season where he only scored 32.
well funny times with palffy back in slovakia. he was doing almost 2 points a game. it looked like coke machine on the stadium could score from his assists. one game he took all shootouts for his team. never won a title during that time though.
I'll be honest, if you did every video holding a cute kitty, I'd never miss one. Lol regardless of the topic, I can't pass up a kitty being cute and cuddly x)
I think ziggy was pushed into playing too fast in the nhl and at some point he just said to himself i have had enough of this...after that one year of retirement (and enough time to heal his shoulder) he came back and played like if he was 25 again. He scored 99 points in 53 games one season so i think he could have played in the nhl longer but he just chose not to
Palffy is a folk hero here in Slovakia and my favorite player growing up
Hungarian

Ziggy was a BEAST.
Thank you for this! I remember as a kid watching Ziggy on the LAPD line!
Ziggy might not be remembered much now or mean a lot to fans around the league, but to me being a young islanders fan watching him make amazing plays and goals on an awful islander team...it gave me reason to cheer
I miss those late 90s early 2000s Kings. Palffy, Deadmarsh, Allison, Stumpel. That 2001 Red Wings upset was my best memory as a fan until the 2012 Cup
Yeah, the Kings had had a hard time earning some success at that point, and whacking the "Wings" was an awful lot of fun. We loved him in LA
He should be in the Hall of Fame. A pure talent.
My cat's name is Ziggy. So this video is right up my alley.
He was incredible.
I remember Ziggy on a goal drought so NYI`s had him watch some videos of Bossy , next two games he had hat tricks .
Solid impactful career for Zigmund Kitty
Bear was clearly a fan.

well, he had to be both scorer and playmaker at the same time , so then is very hard to be the best scorer in the league
Yeah. Great job!! Agreed on the HOF. But a great player to watch

LAPD Line, what a classic.
Sad to see a player as great as Palffy have his hall of fame like career ruined due to injuries
I have a 2002 Palffy All-Star jersey and it’s gotta be my favorite
I forgot he scored that much... Nice highlighting!

Was very happy when the pens signed Palffy. Too bad he got injured.
One of the players form the Dark Times that I liked.
How about a career video for Jyrki Lumme?
him and Robert Reichel in NY, cant remember who was the other wing, Czerkawski?
Please do this with Fetisov or Czerkawski

Good video. Just 1 point. In the Slovakian gold medal, he was actually not a national hero. Peter Bondra was :)
Season with the isles where he played 50 games. He missed a number of games over contract with isles
