  • Come on along with us as we go boondocking in the 100,000-acre Pigeon River State Forest in Northern Michigan, a beautiful wilderness area dubbed "The Big Wild." We hike, view the elk that make this area home, and offer up lots of dry camping and boondocking tips. I have written a companion article with links to the various resources we talk about in the video at rvlifestyle.com/rv-dry-campin...

Another great video but a gallon of water is actually 8.33 lbs not 3.79 lbs

    • @kenmc1

I think the 3.79 number is how many liters in a gallon

Love your videos - so informative. The link in the blog for the 5 gal water container is not the same one that you show in the video. The lay flat, collapsible water containers shown in the video are just what we want but I can't seem to find them. Who makes them, please? Thanks.

Near the beginning of the video, you state water weighs about 3.79 pounds per gallon. It actually weighs more than 8 pounds per gallon. The 3.79 number is kilograms.

I'm sure Mike knows the difference but for those that don't please do your homework but the main point is the weight of the water added to your RIG to take into consideration.

It's amazing how much motorhome I can get for the price with LTV vs. most other brands. At 77, creature comforts are more important to me than are places for climbing and mountain biking gear. Thanks for a sweet touch of reality in my RV search. The locale of this video is about as out in the wild as I'd ever get and, if needs be I could extend it a bit with my pedal-assisted recumbent trike! Kudos!

Great information and thanks for sharing your "secret boondocking spot" I have several in northern WI. I won't share them publicly but since you shared your's i'd be happy to reciprocate via private message :-) Question - you bring up that you need to go slow and keep an eye overhead. I have yet to buy my Class B RV and I'm wondering what do you do if your road has low overhanging branches? Obviously, if they are thick, you can't drive through them. But for "thinner branches" can you just drive slow without damaging your rooftop equipment? There are many boondocking fishing holes I want to explore in Canada once the borders open up. I'm wondering if i need to bring a pole saw with me?

Our smoke detector in our camper twists off easily, so I always take it down when I'm cooking. I stow it under my pillow and that way it doesn't go off while cooking. And if I forget to put it back up after cooking, I for sure will remember when I got to bed and feel it under my pillow.

What brand electric skillet do you like to cook in? I saw you on a previous video say you love the electric skillet so I went and bought one but the heat seems to cycle on and off and it took forever to cook a pack of bacon. I found the electric skillet was good for cooking frozen stir fry dinners, but even over easy eggs take too long to cook. Maybe I simply purchased the wrong one.

Bad expérience here: in thé middle of wild nature. Walking my "big" dog (125 lbs), thinking nothing "...BAD.. " can happen to us here (to me and my dog... All of a sudden, my dog came back from the wood making strange sounds... Approx 15-20 pork-epine stings in his nose and in his mouth !!! I was really panicking there !!! I tried to remove only 2 of them and decided to find a 24 emergency vet clinic. Poor dog was jumpung a few feet back up in the air each time!!! That happened in Quebec in ...2012...date approx. So a few hours and $250 less in my pocket later.... I promessed myself to never (at last, almost never ) let my dog lose in the night in the wild!!! Since that day only a few scunks crossed his way. .. But that's another story. ... LOL. Btw, new subscriber here.
