JULIAN!!! THIS the best explanation of KEY SWITCHES I have ever seen or read about! I have been using Finale to compose since 1992 but always HATED to try and figure out this stuff. I just wanted to COMPOSE not program! Now I have a new skill from your video! I cannot thank you enough!
I echo Enrique's comment completely. Thank you. This is such a pain in the ass to learn and you showed it very simply and easily. I'm about to purchase EWQL or something similar and I was concerned I wouldn't be able to use it... now I can use keyswitches and with some diligent study, I'll be able to do this no problem. Thank you so much.
So, to answer the question, yes, the articulation will work that way. I created a file with two trumpet parts, one for the melody and the second one for articulation and matched the channels to test your method. It worked, however, I found it EXTREMELY tedious and unpractical for large and complex orchestral pieces. I personally can’t see any advantage of using this method over key switches.
Thank you so much Julian ! This is so useful and nobody could explain me the way to control CC1 and articulations before I watched your videos. Great !
Dear Julian! I really wanted to thank You for this vídeo!! I'm writing from Venezuela and this comes more than useful to me considering the limited options that we have here.... It is Very kind of You to take the time to do this tutorial. For people like me it is like an oasis in the middle of the desert. Thank You Very much!!!
Very useful, many thanks. Could you explain please how to change for example trumpet with Clarinet from measure 6 and assign a new instrument and channel always with kontakt ?
Thank you so much for this video. I'd like to throw out a question: it seems to me that when I listen to people's Sibelius playback the quality is far superior to Finale playback. Finale doesn't seem to have improved their playback in like 5-10 years. Does anyone know why that is?
This was very helpful. I use Finale V25 with Kontakt and several VST libraries; but just didn't know where to look to take advantage of using Key Switches. This has opened a new world of possibilities. Isn't it fantastic that we can actively participate in the creation of art?
Thank you for the like. Have you come across any tutorials for percussion mapping between Finale and VST? New percussion staves are mapped to Basic Orchestra which do not align to said VST. I've played with the Percussion Layout Designer; but wonder if there is a better way. How do "YOU" create your own custom percussion templates? Thanks again.
I think I was able to put in keyswitches using Filter and naming Kontakt. Something to that effect. Does that do essentially the same thing? As far as I could hear, it did. Might have to check when at home again :|
Very helpful... But why my instruments plays only shorts notes? I insert a 4/4 figure and the instruments plays an 1/8 figure... I use Finale 2014.5 and Kontakt 6
My finale is 2010. When I write a scratch for an orchestra he "writes in one tone" and performs in another. How do I make writing and execution the same? Thank you.
Do you know where is it possible to dowload the symphony series for free? Ihad heard that you could download a limited number of instruments for free. I have installed some libraries from the NAtive Instrument page but they doesn't appear un finale...
Thank you for the explanation! I'm now having an issue with this same Library. I've put a KS for the Straight Mute that worked fine. The problem is to come back to standard playing: I tried lots of triggers and no one worked. If there is a staccato or legato (slur) KS, it changes for, but the standard playing doesn't change anyway. Do you have an idea to solve it?
One thing I wish Finale would do, in the above example, is instead of specifying a number for the keyswitch, it would pop up a keyboard map and you just click on the key you want (or use Midi to allow you to select it). Having to open up a chart to figure out which key to trigger is tedious.
Please I have a question concerning switching between articulations in finale. I use a Vst libray with kontakt and I've had issues of certain articulations like Spiccato and marcato. I notice with the Keyswitches that are supposed to trigger the techniques on the libray I use, these techniques mostly don't get triggered. Please do you know how to switch between any technique on finale?
I keep coming back to this video , and as a newbie to to VST's (certainly not Finale, as I've been a Finale user since 1995), I am fascinated to know how this would work for all of the instruments in mixed scores... Also, This video is good but wish your musical example was than an excerpt to get a feeling of the blend. Would you consider doing another video with a longer sample, orchestrated for effect? Nonetheless,,, thanks for a great lesson.
I’m going to buy a nice library for Kontakt possibly (audio imperia nucleus) and so thanks for showing me that it should work just fine with Finale. One question: Why would you have to “teach” the techniques for every single instrument? Does that “stacato” you set up apply to all the instruments or just the Trumpet?
Not every library or instrument has the same keyswitch for a staccato (for example), so while you can set a switch for "All Instuments", that switch may not work for the instrument you've loaded.
What I'm really looking for is how to export a MIDI playback into a DAW that actually has good sounds so I can make a halfway decent mockup. I want to edit and correct sounds in the DAW as needed, replace things that sound horrible, but keep things that I can't play effectively on keyboard because they're too complex for my piano ability. I'd like to not have to enter it two times completely (like enter it in the DAW, then and then enter the whole thing all over again in the score) so I have the score AND the playback and only have to enter it once, or maybe one and a half times so to speak, if I need to reenter instrument parts that don't sound right.
Can you do the same thing with a Spitfire Library? Key Switches as well? Also, does a Vienna library (Sax for example) work in Kontact 5? Thx! Great Video!
@@jaycee330 Hey Jay! Thanks for the reply! Is there any setup that you need to do for the Vienna? Or is it similar to how they work with Symphony Series?
I regard your good efforts but we need other things we have in the score like making the main violin play instant of the section of violins using another sound way. So Garritan is designed for everythings in finale.
Rather than disabling all the Garritan techniques, why not use the Filter in the HP Prefs technique editor to target just this library with your added techniques? If you need to mix libraries, that allows the Garritan techniques to coexist with the Kontakt libraries...it uses keywords for filtering..
JULIAN!!!

I've "purchased" it online. I loved that XD
Thank you for the helpful tutorial!!
WOW you just taught me what I NEVER KNEW BEFORE and manuals NEVER teach you! THANK YOU! :) ♥♥♥♥♥♥
This was perfect, so many bs videos out there but this one is straight to the point. I’ll be using all my Kontact instruments from now on :)
I can't even tell you how long I've been looking for this info. Thank you SO much.
this is very important information. thanks for teaching us. so grateful🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
OMG! Finally I founded the solution. Your amazing! Thank so much from Brazil. Keep making videos please 💯
Thank You! So much bad information out there on getting Finale to play with Kontakt! This is just what I needed!
Oh God i've never seen such an helpful video in UA-cam. Here's an Like for you.
It was extremely helpful in teaching me how to use my Kontakt library with Finale.
Thank you, very much. I losted full day for founding theese answers. And you helped for me. Cool! Have a nice life! ;-)
Outstanding! Thank you for posting this.

I have to be honest, I’m not a professional music composer at all:) So to answer your question, unfortunately I don’t know how to map percussion:)
WOW, I love you , this was soooo helpful, Thank you
You're the best!!! thanks!!
How are you Julian,,,,my name is Andrew,,,my key switch won't work even if I command the key switches on Finale V 25 through Kontakt 5
I think I was able to put in keyswitches using Filter and naming Kontakt. Something to that effect. Does that do essentially the same thing? As far as I could hear, it did. Might have to check when at home again :|
You’re a legend

thank you working with east west and finale 25 now
now I need to sync all the articulations that i will use with the keyswitches whew!

Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks. Can you do the same things with musescore?
in the future version (4.0) you'll can

I haven't been able to make it work, I've done it several times any pointer? I'm using Spitfire's Chamber Strings
How change the kontakt's sample to other sample from finale?

Just export it as a Midi0 format, then import the midi file into your DAW, that's how I do it.

Vienna works in my Finale 2014, so I don't see that it shouldn't.

@@drumcorpsfan It's pretty similar, I should think.

Hello, is it the kontakt player, free version?
I've used the free Kontakt player in Finale, it works just fine.
Bravo!

You can create a new perf file and start from scratch there.

Thank you thank you thank you thank you. Did I say thank you?
lol "purchase online" i know many a people who shop there. ;^)
This is not Finale 2014
Jajajaja shop online 😂
Unfortunately this is hopelessly out-of-date.
