Blinking flip Marco, you put so much in to these videos and I don't just mean the information you convey. I'm a motion graphics freelancer, apart from being a painting enthusiast, and I have a fair understanding of how much time and effort is involved to make these. Many thanks.
Artur Sixpence thanks a lot, Artur. It’s rare for someone to point out the motion graphics work. That definitely takes the most time and effort, even more so than the lesson planning (as I’m not a pro at them, so I kinda have to stumble my way through). I appreciate your comment :)
I also used to author software training CDs (yes, CDs) back in the dim and distant pre-internet past albeit the presentation was a lot simpler. Even so, not only does one have to plan lessons, write and record the script, edit the video and audio after various takes, you've then got to gather and prep all the inserts - screen grabs and such like. It's a serious headbanger. Photoshop was tricky, try editing a screen shot from photoshop in photoshop without getting confused - ah, but I'm getting all misty eyed and nostalgic. Actually, not really, I used to hate it although the sense of achievement when I'd finished was most agreeable and satisfactory.
I'm a an oil painter and I'm sorry to say that after years of painting, your primarily "gamer" videos are teaching me MORE and MORE SPECIFICALLY details that other classes have skipped over. REALLY GOOD. BIG Thank You. The "10 Minute" format is perfect.
Hey Marco! I work professionally as an illustrator and animator for more than 8 years, with Art Academy and Art high school behind me and I must give it to you - these were the most valuable 70 minute lesson I've heard in my life as an artist and I greatly appreciate the effort you put into these videos. Have a lovely YEAR, not a day! :D
Ions can be charged positively if they lost electrons, or negatively if they gained electrons. They're called cations and anions, respectively. I'll make sure to tell you when that particular information helps my art (hint: never) By the way, 2:34 BLEW MY FREAKING MIND. IT ALL CLICKS NOW.
I know right! Such a clear concept - Can't believe I never thought of it this way. Making a mental note - the less saturated a color is, the more freedom you have to wander with your hue
When you started making that example with the sunset colors I almost started sobbing as I suddenly Realized what you meant-- I came from the color harmony video and with each passing minute I feel a lot less hopeless and bleak about finishing my paintings. I haven't been able to finish a single painted piece in YEARS because I felt like I couldn't harmonize the colors and it just comes out as really messy and ugly-- but now I have a fighting chance. Thank you so much! At last I can be freed...
My teacher at one point explained that great painters used so many different colours such as green and purple for skin without any of the context. This explains why. Pure goldmine. The moment I saw the painting I was like yeah, the lesson about colour harmony in different colours. Just shows how much of a difference these videos have made.
I'm a "traditional" painter and your channel is invaluable! I just learn so much from you. The internet is a wonderful thing. How many people have you reached?! Thanks so much!
I love these ten minute lessons. It is all the information I have been searching the internet and books for. Things that I knew I was missing in the learning process but didn’t know how to tell instructors or what exactly I was looking for when I searched. I just knew I was lacking things and couldn’t figure out what. I do best learning when given the basics and exploring the rest for myself. And these 10 minute videos are just that. Basic information with boundless possibility for exploration.
Just wanted to say that I discovered this channel very recently and I love your videos. The way you explain things are so easily understandable and they really help me as an artist apply changes to my works and improve! You are a good teacher and an outstanding artist, keep up the great work!
So THAT'S how you do it! This is a lesson I think every artist needs in their library. And, I've told you before, but I'll say it again--I love the phrase 'colour notes.' It is such a perfect description. Now, I have a deeper story to go with this image. Thanks again, Marco.
Waked up and first thing i did was watching your video! I just love your „10 minutes to better painting“- series. It already helped me so much in growing as an artist. Keep going you‘re a wonderful teacher!
I am a novice painter. I am completely enjoying these lessons. I think applying the information presented will accelerate my development in leaps and bounds- thank you so very much! These videos are not only fascinating and informative they are also very entertaining. 👨🏻🎨🎨
It's again one of those moments where it just clicks in your head and you have the wow effect...I do understand the use of colours so much better know...thank you so much for all the effort you put in those videos
oh my god, marco bucci youre a blessing to us!! watching your videos make me smile alot plus i feel elevated getting all these info in such manner, god bless you 😭
Yours is one of those few channels where I can hit the Like button already before I started watching the video and know that I won't regret it. :) Color is still my main weakness and I was especially trying to learn how does it work to use vibrant colors like Schmid to create something that doesn't feel like a mess. This and your color harmony videos started me on that path.
Did you change your formula for video production? It was good before, but now it's perfect! Informative and entertaining. It shows the amount of work you put into it
Thanks! The videos in this 10-Minute series take 3-4x longer to make than my other videos for that reason. I treat them like little short films, part lesson, part humour, part story (whereas my other videos are simply about the lesson itself). And each episode nearly kills me. That's why I can only put out an episode of this series every few months. Thanks for watching!
@@Shaky_pixel I know I'm 4 years late, but could you remember which book were you referring to? I'ld love to have a physical resource of Mr. Bucci lessons!

You make the best, most intuitive, and most direct to the point painting tutorial in youtube! It's super simple and yet it makes sense because it is backed up with enough amount of science. I like it! :D
I love this series so much...it is delightfully fun but also you are a master of distilling complex concepts into easily digestible art energy bars!!!! Thanks so much for all the effort you put into these. If you were to ever put a batch of these shorts on a DvD I would love to buy it!
I traveled with 10 painters for 10 days. Drew a lot of landscape paintings. Very helpful. Your painting skills are very helpful to me, thank you! After returning, I released four travel painting videos.
Omg you're God-sent. I'm a self taught designer and have been intuitively approaching colour similar to your video but it's so refreshing to finally have context for what I'm doing!
Love your videos Marco! So packed with information. You have a great entertaining way of succinctly presenting complex information, which could be otherwise laboured over and be rather dull and opaque.
These videos don't come that often but when they do you know you're getting intelligent, well thought out information. Fantastic, look forward to more and see if the intern recovers.
Marco, these are jsut amazing, so helpful and jam packed with gems. I often stop and rewind, and i come back to watch them as I learn more (I'm a beginner) Thank you !

I love your videos!! Thanks so much, they literally make my love for painting and colors themself grow. It's so interesting to see how you and other painters apply colors and values to their paintings. Thanks for all your hard work!
THANK YOU SO MUCH. I've been trying to do this technique with my digital art, but had no idea why my colours weren't getting this effect. Turns out I was using contrasting colours.
I absolutely love your way of explaining things. These concepts can seem so complicated in books. But your analogies and visual aids are so useful in understanding.
Thanks! Yes, reading about this stuff can be too far removed from reality. Watching somebody actually working with it and explaining what's going through their head is what makes it click, usually. I have always learned the most that way as well.
Thanks Marco! This lesson is incredibly helpful. I know you said that producing this series is nerve-wracking but you've done such a magnificent job here! Keep it up!

Favorite episode so far! Explains why I like certain paintings, but not others. I love (and am studying/practicing) botanical art, and while I tend to prefer large scale contemporary botanical art... I am ultimately most drawn to artists that use color notes expertly (i.e. Inky Leaves, Rosie Sanders, Coral Guest, Victoria Braithwaite, Fiona Strickland, Elaine Searle, Dianne Sutherland, to name a few off the top of my head). Many botanical works tend to be perfectly executed from a technical perspective, but the ones that really catch my eye seem to "sing" in a painterly way. So thank you for helping me figure out what exactly they're doing different (and what I personally would love to emulate).
Amazing video as always. I wish my art school taught me this well. I have read Richard Schmid's Alla Prima. Seeing you reference and put into practice Schmid's principles really made my day. It felt like being in an artist's guild with a mentor.
