    There’s absolutely nothing wrong with giving your honest response to a place. I don’t see that as a negative, just a truthful account of how you feel. If people take that the wrong way or hold a grudge it shows they are a little thin-skinned or maybe insecure

    I get what you mean about Hobart/Tasmania. I grew up there and moved to Melbourne many years ago. It is a lovely place, but feels very isolated. I really felt like I was living at the bottom of the world away from the rest of the world. The population of Hobart is similar to a major country town, rather than a city. It makes a difference. Great place to visit but not everyone’s cup of tea to live.

      Wellington and Hobart feel very similar. Although it's a bit cooler in winter in Hobart, and Wellington has the self-importance of being a government town

      wellington is great and SO much more open minded. the atmosphere and progression in wellington is 40 years ahead of Tas

    "Don't like it, then leave" is prevalent everywhere. People just get defensive even if they agree with your points, they just dont like it when "outsiders" point it out

    I think Hobart’s a nice place to visit, but having grown up in a smallish country town I have a fair idea how cliquey places with small populations can be and how hard that can make life for new people. (Personally I think Launceston is a more welcoming city than Hobart, but there’s still huge healthcare access problems everywhere in Tas.)
    I’m really glad you’re enjoying Melbourne. It’s a much more cosmopolitan city.
    I hope you find a journal to accept your paper. That’s so frustrating after so much hard work. Congrats on getting it done, btw!

    I grew up in Melbourne and didn’t really fit in. We’ve moved to Tasmania and definitely don’t fit in here but still love living here. Life is about just finding your people.

    What's funny, for me, is that I'm a bit disappointed you don't want to live in Tassie ( I was born in Tasmania, so I have a soft spot for the state), but I've lived in Northern Adelaide for most of my life. I can't even imagine moving back to Tassie. I'd love to go for a holiday, though.

    You need to go to Rutherglen for the long weekend when the wine festival is on. I think it was in June, maybe next year, if you are still in Melbourne.

    Totally understand about Tasmania, lovely to visit but not somewhere I'd live.
    And hey you did a fair bit promote local businesses/Coffee shops and tourism while living there.
    But it was obvious for a long time that it wasn't a good fit for you.
    I always knew you'd end up in one of the bigger cities if you stayed in Australia.
    You definitely seem to be hapy and thriving now which is great go see.🙂

    I think people from Tasmania -- fairly -- feel a bit peeved, as mainlanders are moving there and driving up rents and house prices, thereby pushing locals out of certain markets. I've found parts of QLD to be similar in terms of the bitterness/resentfulness towards Melbourne and Sydney "city folk" (esp if we're buying property).

    • @coffeeenut
      @coffeeenut  Місяць тому

      there’s a housing crisis pretty much everywhere in Aus, i don’t see the need to blame specifically outsiders when the issues are much more complex than that 🤷🏼‍♀️

    • @Sean-ll5cm
      @Sean-ll5cm Місяць тому

      @@coffeeenut Don't give people too much credit. They don't understand complex issues. The human inclination is to blame outsiders for all their problems

    Great video yet again. Yea Tasmania is a kinda nice place to visit. But I couldn't think of anywhere worse to live in Australia, well besides shitney. 😁 I know it's early days, but are you guys planning on settling in Melbourne. Or just go where your marine biology career takes you. Cheers ash and Brady have a top week. Rant over. 👍🐒🦍🦧🌴

    To be fair I couldn't live in Tassie either. And if you think about it, moving almost anywhere away from Melbourne is technically a downgrade, given that Melbourne is consistently top 5 most liveable cities worldwide.
