      @@matthewwilson5019 Yep, random T-34s somehow even though you're not even showing your weak side penning your upper Glacis and killing everyone. Your StuG, which you saved up for, getting killed by a random ass M4 that somehow got to the cliffs above you even though it's slower than you. And finally, there's the bombs, the bombs are the most random ass shit in the game, will they explode, or won't they? You'll never know because the timer is RANDOM! Also, how does a HE BOMB from a Biplane kill a MAUS, AFTER IT LANDS BESIDE IT! Don't get me started on naval battles though, those are the worst. Your torpedo boat fires three whole mags into another, doesn't kill it, but you get hit with ONE bullet, and you explode. The only balanced thing is the air battles, literally the only balanced thing in the game.

    I think radar AA is ok, but then airplanes need computing bombsights, and 1st generation air to ground missiles to balance it out. But radar AA really does means gaijoob finally heard our voices when we yelled "Let my tankers tank!"

      You should get a job for Gaijin, They also like to fix one issue by introducing several more. What they need to do is make planes hard to get. An asset to the team that only the top couple of players can get. We can't just keep switching between planes or AA being op whilst removing skill required the whole time. Top tier's already bad enough.

      Except that all that happens is what we pretty much had before this where the top players get into a plane and it's instant game over as they become unstoppable. You have channels like Slick Bee where it's probably hundreds of hours of him jumping into top tier jets and bombing the living hell out of the other team and he's not even up there in the top greats of the game. Just before this update, we still had too many games where the best of the enemy team gets killed, jumps into a jet, and CAS spams the other team into oblivious solo with no one else really able to kill them. Because ranging visually in RB can be very difficult, it's no unheard of to have players in SPAA waste nearly their whole magazine load to get a kill or even just a hit when the radar would range for you. Most of these systems in game have effective ranges out to miles and even modern planes without an EW pod/kit would be food for these weapon systems.

      I think it's hilarious when someone is screaming in chat that sentiment. I never had a problem with CAS in Tank RB. If someone is going to revenge bomb someone, "radar" isn't really going to stop that one guy from coming in with a fast bomber for a targeted strike. Sure, he'll be dead shortly after his bombs vaporize his killer but it will have all been worth it for that salty dog.
      There are so many bigger problems than 'radar' right now but I feel this issue so drastically changes things for the individual used to free airspace that it makes them so irked.

      I’m quite sure several people, even Phly here and other Tubers, have noted CAS as being extremely annoying. Revenge bombing is a big reason, to me at least, for vastly increasing plane spawn costs as a way of saying “don’t waste your run on something so damn petty.”
      As for that, tank RB is MEANT for tanks. CAS should be high risk and high reward.

      I totally agree. Being annoying is one thing, a game breaking inclusion would be a problem and I don't see it as such. My opinion, of course.
      I absolutely agree with you on that, people who cap and J-out for a plane run is quite stupid but most people don't play TRB for riveting cooperative play. Raising plane spawn SP would help offset that, not a selective ability on some SPAA at top tier.

    Imo it increases the realistic threath of spaags, there is a reason why Americans counted the shilka as a big threat back during the cold war. realistically the radar would give you more then just lead indicator, it would guide you to the target making it way too easy

      SPAA is still considered a huge threat with many gun systems able to use spaced out and clustered radar systems. Many of the modern guns can track a target for many miles out and engage with missiles and cannons in a tiered threat. Since the systems can use remote radar stations, destroying a single/few radar stations doesn't stop the SPAA threat. There are HUGE elaborate SEAD plans that go into effect to pop an air defence bubble. The radar should be able to be turned on/off and fighters should get a HARM type missile to counter them. This means that players spawning in planes have to make a choice on taking a loadout involving a HARM missile or two to counter the radar of SPAA while SPAA players would have to balance the calculated risk of turning the radar on to make engagements easier over getting their asses blown up by their own radar being used to guide a missile in on them.

" yea the Czechoslovakian army half century ago made first passive radar system(Tamara),you can't kill every radio transmiter in the area especialy that now everyone have one in pocket and stealth tech can only limit reflecting signal back at its source, it is completly insufficient in case of signals that are bounced of the plane from different sources...
      But because US airforce is used only to harass poor third world countries....

    Im not really a fan of the SPAA easy mode, but at the same time I don't think it's too much of an issue for me at least. Cas is just annoying most of the time in Tank Rb, and planes were just way too easy to get and get kills with. Again, my opinion

      I agree that CAS is a little too powerful (let me play my tanks damnit) but at the same time, I think Phly is right that the solution is to make radar highlight planes that get close enough, not provide a lead indicator. That would be balanced. You got to use the same aiming skills you learned from BR 1, but now the jets are not so fast you can't see them before they pass you. That would be nice. As it is, after all your time in SPAA, suddenly you don't have to aim anymore and that seems weird.

      Eustace Stritchers Well, except for the M163 all top tier SPAAGs has traking radars with a certain degree of human intervention (with the Gepard and the Type 87 being fully automated).
      I think a way to balance this is either finally give 30 mm and higher proximity fuses (already modeled on rockets) or stick with the radar.

      as i haven't made it to high tier yet i cant say with 100% certainty, maybe warthunder needs to make the lead indicator less accurate or just not accurate at all, to balance out the game play. I do agree that you should be getting a highlight with the radar, but not a point and click on this circle and you have now killed the plane BS.
      just my thoughts on this problem

      "Spark" Shit I wish shells would spark off me :( Instead I'll just suddenly explode before I even realize I'm being shot at. It's 100% easymode for all top tier AA, and it's honestly a little nuts how accurate that lead is. Gepards are the most annoying, 163s and Shilkas are about the same level of annoying

      They could also leave as is but decrease the time for guns overheating so you can only do like short 3 sec bursts instead of just holding down the trigger, gives planes a chance to evade between bursts

    You can actually see why they implemented this by the fact that you are carring a 6.0 aircraft at 8.0+.
    Now prop at 8.0+ are useless, only jets can be fast enough to get away before the SPAAG can engage them, like it should be.
    Either way to balance this they should simply implement a system that makes you lock on a plane only if you have direct line of sight.
    So low altitude planes are invisible to SPAAGs.

      Naa, they need to cut this arcade shit completely. AA is already easy enough to use and wasn't a big issue top tier. They need to reduce the amount of planes in the games, problem solved.

      Eddy S The problem is that modern tanks are arcade.
      SPAAGs have this radar lock-on feature, MBTs have aiming reticles that automatically account for all variables on the battlefield to hit a tank, planes are fire-and-forget etcetera.
      The developers wondered in a prohibited zone and now have to deal with what they made.
      Also how do I cut down the amounts of planes? People are always going to use them, either by using a low tier aircraft in top tier or by using a low tier tank to get to a capzone and get into their jets.
      The only way to defend against planes is giving SPAAGs better capabilities (or lowering their cost even more, or modelling them accurately (radar included)).
      If this makes you happy the M163 never had a tracking radar, only a spotting one.
      Also both the Gepard and the Type 87 were "click and click" types, one click to lock on and the other to fire, all while the computer leads the enemy aircrafts.

      They aren't though. In real life they don't race about like headless chickens. They don't generally fight over small circles or clump together and allow themselves to be flanked. SPAAG's don't have a small circle showing the operator where to point a mouse either. This is a game, and is easy to change and balance to make top tier work, rather than insisting on fixing issues with more issues or introducing a broken feature because real life did it. People are calling for fire and forget ordnance to deal with the new OPAA, and the joke is that gaijin will probably give that to them, then work on surface to air missiles to counter the new OP planes. Planes aren't a big issue top tier, the aa was easy enough to use, and with the speed of tanks it's was already rare for them to be killed from above. And this radar doesn't effect lower tier.
      They need to spend some time balancing the game. Flesh out the tech tree's already there (Britain AA line is awful for example), Reduce the aircraft a team can use in battle, and remove arcade aiming. Come up with game modes and a spawn system that doesn't promote racing around like a lunatic and killing new-spawns.
      As for how to cut down planes? simple. Up the RP to a reasonable amount required, only allow players over a certain score score to use them, only enable them to the top 2 players of a team after a certain amount of time has passed. There's plenty they can do to limit them, and it needs doing. Just had a game where my team had 8 fighters and 2 aa's, so we lost to 3 tanks, so it's not just an issue to tanks getting bombed, it's an issue to the team getting all the planes.

      You first need to take out the AA and then the planes can come in.

    I really like this easy mode. I’ve been playing over 4k hr’s with tanks and it feels i’ve been killed mostly by planes. Numerous games we have been for good. After few planes, we lost majority of our tanks and we lost, because the enemies last two tanks got two cap’s. It’s not fair and the headline says ”tank realistic battle”. Also i’ve died in numerous fun duels with another tank, when their cas came and deleted me. Sometimes even the enemy pixel’s controlles responded and said sorry for that plane. I already see less planes in tank rb and i’m very happy about that.

    I love the start of the video daily that's my Job in the US Army 14P Avenger gunner and Counter Rocket Artillery and Mortar (C-RAM). Our Job is to provide early warning to Soldiers and civilian contractors on FOB's from Mortars and Rockets, Then either deflect or destroy those rounds coming in. Then provide the exact location where those rounds came from so what ever unit is close by that can provide support to either capture or kill or conduct counter battery or air strike. I have conducted 4 tours in which 3 where C-RAM mission. Its a great feeling knowing that I get to protect Soldier's, Airmen, Navy, Marines and Civilians and then getting the SOB that tried to kill us. Thanks to the Soldiers From Delta Battery 4-5 ADA, Able Battery 3-3 ADA, Bravo B 2-44, Charlie Battery 5-5 ADA and all the Civilian contractors that help put this whole program out there.

    I don't know why you'd be surprised with radar being a "handhold."
    That's the point of radar.
    Gaijin probably should have put in some counters while they were at it, though.
    Also, they should have the lead indicator only show up on your scope, not on the 3rd person view. That doesnt make sense in RB.

    The A-4, F-100 and F-105, along with the F-4 Phantom were all used for early Wild Wessel aircraft. The first Anti-Radiation Missile (ARM) used to home in on enemy radars was the AGM-45 Shrike. The AGM-45A with a range of 16 km and entered service in Vietnam in 1965. The AGM-65B had a range of 40 km and entered service in 1967. Both had a speed of Mach 1.5, were fire and forget weapons and either a 67.5 kg (A) or 66.6 kg (B) blast-fragmentation warhead. Wild Wessel aircraft were fitted with jamming and sensor equipment that allowed them to instantly detect and locate any active enemy radars within twice their threat range (the range the radar can detect the target at). A typical A-4 loadout would be two Shrike ARMs, two drop tanks and a TER on the centerline with three cluster bombs, plus its two 20mm cannons. A F-100 would have two drop tanks, two Shrike ARMs and two cluster bombs, plus its four 20mm cannons. Wild Wessel is a specialized AA suppression escort mission, flown in support of a normal strike mission. If a radar site believes a ARM has been launched at it the normal tactic is to shut down, move if possible. The Shrike goes dumb once it looses its radar signal it is homing in on, that is when the pilot switches to guns and bombs.

      Most people are. Because instead of balancing the game Gaijin insist on these stupid measures that remove skill from the game and make planes useless, or OP. All they need to do is make planes harder to get so you see no more than say 4 a game

      Planes were outright obnoxious. They mainly made it hellish to use tanks and were idiotically easy to get your hands on. The vibe I’m getting from CAS players is hat they’re salty about being unable to loiter around the field and kill everything at their leisure anymore, and I’ve seen a lot of tankers make known their hatred of CAS. If radar goes then I think CAS planes should have their costs raised to counter it.

      They where yes, so they fixed them by nerfing their ordinance to high hell, meaning a lot of the team who took planes up where just a waste of a player to the team. Now they've allowed nations (except Britain) to take them out without skill, but only top tier where planes weren't a big issue.
      Planes only seem so OP because teams end up using 7 or more in a game, so it's consent. If only the top couple of players in each team could use them then it'd solve a lot of the issue without needing to make top tier any more of a arcade mess.

      There's also another thing about planes being obnoxious- I've read stories on the subreddit of flyboys retreating to the edge of the map in GF games just to drag out the match for as long as fucking possible. This also means you can't leave unless you want crew lock.

      That is annoying, but at least in ground RB they can't drag it on for that long, unlike air RB. Simple solution would be to not count planes as a team vehicle. So if they only have planes left the counter will drop.

    When they added planes to the tank mode I was already waiting for the day AA would get better to balance them. IMO they need more buffs like actual flak shells and radar assistance when they fly to close to your base at lower tiers.

    This feature is especially good on the French SPAA, the AMX-30 DCA because its BR of 7.3 is much lower than the other SPAAs with this feature. This means that planes at this slightly lower tier are less gun shy. In most matches you're the only spaa with radar so can can wreak some serious havoc on planes

    I don't know how the War Thunder ecosystem is, but at least in the DCS world you basically have to assume that every SPAA unit has machine-perfect FLAWLESS aim. Because that's basically how the real ones are. They have radar for a reason. But they're not lasers; there's still a bullet flight time and so if you're always maneuvering dynamically, then they're not going to hit you. People talk about the GAU-8 in the A-10 as a tank-buster, but is was really specified to be able to shoot up Shilkas, where the bullets from the plane and the SPAA would pass each other in the middle, and the plane simply gets out of the way before the Shilka's bullets arrive. It's not that big of a deal as long as you see where the thing is. Where these things get to be a problem is when your first warning is the sound of bullets hitting you. But that's what RWRs are for.
    Also, lol, using a HARM against an SPAA is insane. That's like using nuclear weapons to heat your TV dinner.

    EA-18G Growler is the US Navy's current Electronic Warfare aircraft. The HARM can be carried by the F/A-18E/F not just the Growler. All EA-6B Prowlers have retired from US Navy and Marine Corps service.

    To your point about the electronic warfare aircraft, the Prowler is the EA-6B (a variant of the A-6 Intruder) while the Growler is the EA-18G (a variant of the the F/A-18F Super Hornet). However, if we did get a top-tier jet meant to deal with radar-guided AA vehicles, it would most likely be the "Wild Weasel" variant of the F-4 Phantom which was specialized for Suppression of Enemy Air Defense (SEAD) missions.

    Finally stepping in and making some changes in regards to how the mixed battles play out. Good on Gajin for realising that people hop into planes as soon as they get enough points, then proceed to dominate.
    That being said, this perhaps isn't the best approach because it destroys the air player's fun at higher tiers. It's almost a gimmick for those complaining about CAS in lower tiers to buy a top tier vehicle, just for the safety radar offers.

    I like the change, cuz jet knows how to evade are still hard to hit. It force players to actually bring relevant planes into the battle. And it is fun to bomb and find target while AAA are engaging you with high accuracy.

    Phly the funny thing is that guided munitions (bombs and rockets) already existed since WWII, the newly added He.177 could launch either of the 2 main german anti-ship guided bombs, the Fritz-X and the Hs.293, the german arsenal included ATGM's, Air-Air missiles, Surface-Air missiles, etc...
    from what I know there's a lot to choose from, particularly when it comes to guided bombs for the US, afterall the GB's had origin in WWII (GB-1/4/12/8/etc...), and then you have the Azon, Tarzon, etc....

    I saw that almost every night when I was in Iraq in 2010. But those were CRAMS 20MM Vulcan cannons used to shoot down mortars and rockets. Those radars are wicked.

    One thing flight sims taught you was that it was suicide to go head to head with a Shilka or any AAA using guns and rockets.
    You stood a chance at AGM65 Maverick range to pop them, or better off using the HARM style of missiles.
    Up close and inside their range, they would provide your aircraft with excess ventilation in a hurry!

    I dunno what kinda drugs Phly is on to enhance accuracy, but without the lead for RB, I could only hit an enemy plane if it was coming straight at me, and I either missed, or got killed by it every time, so I reeeeallly needed this.

      The radar of the Shilka worked exactly as it works in the game - it calculated the leading, not only spotted aircraft. I suspect the same was with westerm AA systems.

      Denrassa depends on generation and complecity. Simplest radars just measured distance. Used to calculate height from target elevation angle and distance to adjust aiming height to compensate for ballistics. It replaced optical manually operated coincidence range finders, which was in use before radars for example during WW2.
      Didn't lock, track etc. At all. You had to manually target the ranging radar on target and it would ping it for distance.
      More advanced systems like Shilka etc. Have full out search, tracking & lock on. Actually that realistic mode is even some what too gamey.
      For the locking on radars, you don't aim. You look at radar screens. Lock radar on target and give computer permission to fire. It figures out, when target is in optimal parameters and sends a salvo. So no trying to follow lead indicator, machine does that on it's own.
      You can actually see that on radar AA guns. The targeting radar is looking straight at the target, where as the aiming is constantly little offset from radar antenna pointing due to the targeting computer constantly adjusting the aim and ofcourse there must be some lead.
      Ofcourse there is manual over rides for malfunction etc. For example shilka has complete manual optical back aiming for malfunctions or say ground target engage ment.

    I think this makes sense, it's to simulate warfare not just give some play time to people.
    this also opens strategic and tacical possibilites like the spaa systems becoming a higher priority target for the ground units.

    I used to work on the ea-6b prowler. It has been replaced by the ea-18 growler. They monitor and jam with the ALQ-99 system and take out SAM with the high-speed anti radiation missile, or HARM. I wish they'd put the A-6 intruder as a naval bomber in the game. It could carry 36,000Lbs in bombs and munitions.

    This does happen to be the reality over the modern battlefield with American and near-peer adversaries. Mobile anti-air is so good that the air force is trying to stealth everything they can.

    this makes the game more realistic. in a modern battlefield air cant survive if spaa is active in the area because of radar assisted guns and missiles, though i do think they need to make the indicator bigger so it takes some more skill than just point and click

    This is highly needed. The amount of aircraft in a "realistic" battle is unrealistic. If both sides had air support for EVERY single battle, things would have been very different in wars.

    the radar is for calculating distance, the rate of slew of the gun in the horizontal and vertical axis is used to compute the speed of the target, the computer can then give you a firing solution to engage.

    Well i mean, the Radar onboard every SPAAG post-Flakpazner Gepard introduction, even the older models like the M42 Duster and WW2-era 40mm Bofors mounting all had radar that is connected to their fire control system. Not only it will detect the threat using its radar, the detected target is then locked to the firing control system and computing mechanic onboard provide a calculated solution for the gun to lead its target.

    So I do like the idea of the “heads up” alert for the radar but maybe have a new ability for AA vehicles with radar. Maybe a “radar lock” ability like the Scouting ability for light tanks. You would have to track a plane and wait for your radar to lock onto it then it would give you a lead indicator. Then maybe that make room for planes to get new features like a warning alarm for radar locks, radar jamming capabilities, or maybe Chaff deployers. That also opens up new possibilities for radar guided missiles. Just a thought.
