Bladefixer Plasterboard Fixing - the Unedited Clip for the Sceptics

  • I had a couple of comments last week saying that I conveniently edited out the part in the video where the screw bites into the back of the fixing - the inference being it didn't work, so I edited it to make the fixing look better than it is.

    Hello Charlie. Good video, as usual, thank you. Have you seen the Corefix fixings for dot and dab plasterboard walls? They look pretty good where there is block work behind the plasterboard.

    I'm glad you posted that. On the original it did look as though it was going to miss the fixer and then all of a sudden it was nicely engaged. I think for us cynical bods when it was something you'd been asked to review then it did look a bit convenient and it was such a departure from your usual editing style.
    Sorry for doubting you, I hope you can forgive us doubters. :-)

      Thanks Graham and no need to apologise - it was a clumsy piece of editing and as I keep saying - I love most of the comments I get on the channel. The positive ones fire me on when I start to doubt whether it's all worth while and the negative ones keep me on my toes!

    Hi Charlie
    I've got some walls that are plasterboard backed with insulation. It would be interesting to know if these fixings could work with that, i.e. would tightening the lower screw simply compress the insulation to make a tight a fixing or would it just make a horrendous mess of the board and insulation?

    You know what Tony Robinson is like . He finds one piece tile in the ground and he’s convinced it’s a high status Roman villa . And if he he’s not convinced then it must be human sacrifice. All that whilst making orange squash, how does he have time for youtube . Maybe he has another cunning plan .

      Charlie DIYte Charlie can you do a video on how to achieve a good fix into insulation blocks . I had to fit a gun cabinet and I had a nightmare . I cut the plasterboard away so expose the block but all fittings a bought pulled out once tightened. Any recommendations ? Seems to be a common problem in the shooting community with modern houses on the forums

    Charlie any ideas about mould? Am having black mould in parts of my home in the living room and kitchen can't figure it out could use your help keep up the good work

    • @CharlieDIYte
      @CharlieDIYte  6 років тому

      Joseph Hanley Hi Joseph. Yes, have a look at the comments below this video ua-cam.com/video/LhRcg9t8C5M/v-deo.html. from people who are much more knowledgeable on the subject than I am.
      Basically you have too much humidity in the air - possibly because the moisture shoved into the air from your kitchen, or from drying clothes on racks inside the house, and or from moisture generated by baths and showers not being properly expelled - and the areas where mould is forming are probably places where there is minimal air circulating/ no radiators?
      Ideally you should tackle the cause really to solve the mould problem - which put very simply happens when wet air hits cold surfaces, and you could go a long way towards doing this by 1) installing a decent extractor in the kitchen and opening the windows when cooking 2) not drying clothes inside the house, and 3) installing a decent bathroom extractor and opening the windows (as we do at home) when people are bathing or showering, and 4) maybe installing some air vents in the walls (a little more extreme I admit, but very effective).
      If the problem persists, or there is no practical alternative to drying washing inside etc check out the suggestions in the comments section of the video linked above where some really good dehumidifiers are recommended - I'm actually considering buying one! Or if you have the budget you might consider installing a PIV (for examples of which check out Nuaire).

    I must admit I thought it was going to miss. It just picked it up though. They look like a good trade idea but for the homeowner I think they would end up in all sorts of a mess.

      Like a lot of things it does depend on the user's technique. I mean i can barely change a plug. Yet i can use these. :->

    Not knocking the product but I think most will agree the tip of that screw only just caught the edge of the slot ...But there are other uses like patching holes etc..

    Obvious you used GCI to achieve the screwing in effect. Looks convincing though, will fool most people.

      Charlie DIYte haha yes just a bit of mild banter! Never hurt anyone.... will have to try these blade fixers next time the opportunity presents itself! Today has been full of burst water pipes at work in the most awkward of places so will be nice to hang a nice warm radiator off a few blade fixings for a change lol take care! Marc.

    • @CharlieDIYte
      @CharlieDIYte  6 років тому +1

      Marc Gray Cheers mate. If you do try them, just make sure it's the bottom screw that carries the load (unless you use them upside down).

    I still don’t believe it!! I think you’ve got a stunt double screw. It’s funny how we never see the front and the back of the plasterboard at the same time. I don’t even believe that’s your screwdriver. I can’t see your hand turning it. I’m going to have to unsubscribe I can’t be having these sleepless nights trying to work out wast true and what’s false !!

    • @CharlieDIYte
      @CharlieDIYte  6 років тому

      J D11 I could easily show you the front and the back but it would be pointless viewing as neither the front or the back would be zoomed in enough for you to see what's going on.

    • @CharlieDIYte
      @CharlieDIYte  6 років тому +1

      Don't you start!! You're right, but I was probably going a bit low with the second screw in order to match up with the screw hole on the bracket, but I guess screwing up at a slight angle might have helped.

    • @kezzaman
      @kezzaman 6 років тому

      Charlie DIYte i just thought, drilling a hole slightly wider then the screw should give someone enough room to maneuver the screw so it find the slot 😉
