I've got a feeling he must have got the idea for Melinda Sullivan's tap fest from his mate, the great singer, Dannielle De Andrea, who scorched through the Surrey, singing and doing a tap solo on her album, "You Don't Know Me", which is a shimmering , shimmying gem.

So if you hire a tap dancer instead of a drummer does she have to bring a small portable floor? Still an easier load in than a drum kit. 😀 This is such an interesting concept.

Yes and there is a long history of folks doing just that. Although historically, music venues used to have dance floors a lot more often.
