My mum was in Hayes west London and she hated the Anderson shelter for it was always damp even though it had a sump in one corner. She her brother mum and dad stayed in the house most of the time and used the Morrison shelter in preference to the Anderson shelter. After the war the Anderson shelter was turned into a wine cellar until rust ate through the metal then it was taken out and turfed out.
