    I remember one of my neighbours still had an Anderson shelter at the bottom of their garden when i was a kid. I don't think i've seen one for over 40 years now but i have a feeling the UK is going to end up needing them to be sold {at a reasonable price given the current cost of living crisis}

      I think we will need them too this time in our life is the turning point to evil. In Arizona they have machines that won’t work they are running out of ballots. Why ? I hope if the Republicans take over they will fix the problems but I think this is written we took the wrong road so I don’t think it will go good. You need food water blankets to stay warm and medical supplies plus many more, if the Republicans take over you better have bullets the Democrats will go into kill mood. Please be safe and take care

    Do need to point out that Anderson shelters were distributed throughout the UK; England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and many other cities were bombed in the UK not just London. I use the arches of an original for a shed. Many curves I've found in allotments used to contain compost heaps so they have lasted 80 years. Each panel was 28" wide with a 5" pitch and about 2mm thick. No one has made an exact replica. Looking forward to seeing how you make yours.

    The Morrison and Anderson shelters afford their protection through "plastic" deformation as opposed to "elastic" deformation. In other words, they "give", absorbing the blast wave and shrapnel (like a crumple zone on a car). Using reinforced concrete in them would run counter to this doctrine. Concrete cracks under blast conditions, meaning the whole structure comes down on the occupant(s). Remember the Anderson and Morrison build times would be max one day, albeit a very long day in the case of the former!
    Also, in the Ukrainian winter, some form of externally applied 10-cm insulation (closed-cell) below the earth layer would be required together with a CO (carbon monoxide) detector (20GBP) as it is almost inevitable that people will use Propane heaters or other sources of CO in Anderson shelters.

    You just gave me a Heck of an idea .. I've seen the old British pathe videos and backyard restoration videos of the Anderson shelters.. But they all have one flaw, galvanized steel still rusts.. if an explosion is close enough,the metal can still be penetrated.. these things are made to be covered in dirt and concrete and everything else... It may as well, since we have these materials now, thicker plastic prefab with the vents... Covered in concrete sand and gravel.. couldn't that offer the same protection, and withstand the years if it's not needed but is always there

    As former A. F. , I personally love what your doing, not only for Ukraine, but us here in the states to. Now the question pops up in my brain, what would work for our coastal areas where watertables are only a foot or two below the surface. You know like Fla, Louisiana, TX. Or other marshy areas, I would think a plastic shelter simulating any of the ones your designing, or another type design that could be buried an be completely waterproof. Thx for the vid Ron an God bless.

    • @danb2529
      @danb2529 Рік тому +1

      Think the problem with burying shelters in areas with high water tables is that they push back up towards the surface, potentially causing damage to the structure and surrounding area. Probably better off to build at ground level and use piled-up earth to 'bury' it at ground level.

    • @williammccaslin8527
      @williammccaslin8527 Рік тому

      @@danb2529 I was thinking that you make it like 6.5 ft tall an then dig a hole a cover it with earth. Being that I live in Cent. Fla, our water table is about 2 ft deep. Have looked at plastic sewer bxs for this purpose but any I've seen are to shallow in height. An agreed about above ground structure, but now we're talking about a fema shelter that can get costly, as I've looked at that to. Any thoughts ?, thx for the input.

    Excellent update and additions to the line.
    The PRE-CAST is really a wonderful option, specially if they can be connected to multiple unites ie, (2 40-footers) for a total of 80 feet...or combination thereof.
    The WALKIN-SAFEROOM (if it can be sized accordingly) would be super affordable for apartments or sub-division style housing tracts ... you could easily turn an extra bedroom into a safe-room/food storage or other valuables area...

Do you guys make a mold of a wooden rectangle on the ground a screw it in from the inside and have a two 2x6's going parallel and separated by a few inches. You just push from both sides and get an overlap and bolt together maybe? Thinking of my small forest land in Oklahoma north of you to protect my fuel and some supplies from direct heat and animals.

    Ron on the safe rooms you showed, as an American living in Ukraine for the last 6 years, the flaw I see is the lack of a floor in the shelter. A missile or artillery strike on the lower floors cause the pod of apartment to pancake.
    Most all of the soviet built buildings and most of the apartments under 10 stories as built in Khmelnitsky, where I live most of the new buildings have 1 meter thick exterior wall, with a precast floor panel bridging the space, with light blocks used to build the interior wall, and the light blocks are cut with a ordinary hand saw.
    While the elevator stairwell is made of bricks walls which are about 80 cm thick.
    The floor panels are a precast extruded concrete, with hollow tubes , that reminded me of the old AT&T stacked buried cable blocks.
    The safe rooms you showed, without a steel floor will provide minimal protection in a collapse of a building, and they need a independent floor that will sit on the concrete floor, of which has the same strengths of the wall and roof, to be a solid self contained cube.
    The second type of Soviet building is a house of cards made out of precast concrete panels, that was used to build buildings up to 16 floors, which was a fast built housing that was only to be used for temporary housing of 50 years. Unlike my apartment building which was a permanent housing building of 100 year or more life span .
    The light block has the weight of 1/8 of it masonry counter part, and have very limited structural ability, and these blocks are held together with a glue made out of a clay.
    Ron have you been watching the videos of the damage done to the housing units by the Russian artillery and Missiles?

      @@AtlasSurvivalShelters Ron, yes I know, and I also know 1/4 steel won’t stop shrapnel of exploding artillery shells.
      What people need mostly is a shelter that will give them a chance in a building collapse, which is how most civilians die . A shelter that is a complete box with reinforcements is the best chance of survival, as with the British ww2 shelter which was a table people could sleep in that you showed.
      Most of the Soviet building was built without reinforcement in the concrete, or if was used it was a number 9 wire. I seen sections of the precast floor panels cut to install duct works, for air filtration systems on the roof, and rarely was reinforcing wire installed.
      Ron the full saying is:
      Слава Україні! Слава тим, хто з Україною! Смерть усім, хто противиться Україні!🇺🇦
      Glory to Ukraine! Glory to those who stands with Ukraine! Death to all those who oppose Ukraine!🇺🇦

    I wouldn't recommend using a Morrison shelter in a high rise it would be like entombing yourself in an iron coffin if the high rise building you were in took a direct hit the structure would collapse burying the shelter with you in it making it harder for rescuers to get you out. They wearnt all that affective during ww2 either. The Anderson was far safer.

    While I think it is laudable that you wish to make air-raid shelters available to Ukrainian civilians, I hope that you do so at a price the 'average' Ukrainian can afford.
    The original Anderson shelters were cramped and prone to having water leak in. Not everyone had the means to set theirs in concrete. You'd be amazed how reluctant some people can be to go sit in a cold, dark, damp hole in the ground especially in winter.
    You may wish to provide your version of the Anderson shelter with a waterproof membrane between the metal shell and the earth that surrounds it.
    By the end of WW2 it was not uncommon for some people to have Anderson shelters that were longer than the initial 2m design. A 4m long shelter would allow the owner to instal a small wood burning stove. This is important if people will have to seek shelter during a Ukrainian winter.

    The Morrison type shelter could be improved with a beam placed in the middle of the longer grid to prevent a large object from penetrating and also provide support for a beam in the middle of the roof. And the horizontal beams of the ceiling and the floor can be outside the vertical ones so that it are supported by these in addition to being supported by the screws

    Big screen tv and a brass pole should make shelters quite livable 😅

    I’ve been waiting for someone to make a root cellar/ storm shelter/ bomb shelter for the state of Texas. I need the root cellar for the crops.

    You need 150 pounds per square foot of material to reduce fallout levels by a thousandfold. If you have only 75 pounds, it won't reduce fallout levels by half that much but only by a hundredfold. Sounds counterintuitive but it's a complicated thing to figure out. 150 pounds is the sweet spot.
    Those concrete bunkers, if they do not have a 150 pounds per square foot, should have sandbags or dirt put on top of them.
