  • This video is a quick overview of the feed dog lifting cam and fork on a Singer 111W155. The question had come up how much play between cam and fork is acceptable and if it is adjustable. It's not a super critical component in terms of tolerances, so a little play won't hurt the function of the machine. There's no adjustment to tighten up the play between the cam and the fork. If the forks is worn badly it can be replaced fairly easily. This component should be very similar in the various clones or copies of this design (Consew 225/226, etc.)

I have the same machine. I was trying some thicker thread and it jammed up. I put back the the thread I had been using and now my feed doesn't work. I've only had it a week and not ready to learn how to work on them much yet

I'm glad I stumbled across this little video, Uwe, thank you! I have a 211W155 that I recently purchased, and there was considerable play and a knocking noise coming from this area, as i zero'ed in on it. It turned out that the cam's set screw had loosened, so the cam was able to float and semi-spin on the shaft. I tightened it and that cleared the knock, but it loosened again within 2 weeks. Might you have any tips or suggestions for getting that cam REALLY secure? Is there a flat on the shaft that the set screw is supposed to hit, or a groove? Lastly, is there a method to get that cam properly oriented on the drive shaft, and then is it just a lot of torque on that set screw? Would that oil-ladden set screw take a post-applied thread sealer? Thanks in advance, Mark

I have a 111W113 and I have a little more slop in mine than yours. I've noticed on machines that have little to no slop that they are much quieter when they sew. I'd love to try to add some shims to mine but other than spot welding I'm not sure how the shim stock would stay in place.
