Your video informed me about timing. I was able to check the timing on my machine. It was way off! Your video also showed me how to change the stitch size. I read the manual 10 times on my machine, but unless you see someone show you how to do what is written in the manual, its too difficult for a beginner. Almost got rid of my machine because it didnt work. Now its stitching great!! Thank you!!!

Thanks for the helpful video! I bought a "non working" 111W155 to do my own upholstery on a car restoration project. About 6 hours ago I did not have a clue how these worked. I will keep the story short by getting to the punch line, which is there are two sliding cover plates on each side of the needle/foot area, which at first glance look identical, but turns out they are not. I am sure you are chuckling right now because you know what the important difference is. The upside is I needed to get familiar with the machine anyway and made all the little adjustments in your video, and after 6 hours of frustration it made me laugh too, when I realized that all I needed to do was switch those two plates around because one of them has a recess in the bottom of it so the thread can pass over the top of the bobbin case.
I'd like to thank you for this video. I just adjusted my 211a566aa using your instructions and it is now running perfectly. I had an issue with the forward and reverse stitch length being different and found how to adjust that as well. The main problem i had with the 211 was the maximum thread size for reliable operation is TEX150. Anything larger and I had problems. For now I'll stick with the TEX150. Cheers.

I wanted a stationary engine but settled on a Singer 331k5 I love the way these machines are built the 331k5 is my first sewing machine and it sews wonderful I think it is far to fast for me as a beginner lol. I am going to do a full service on it come the weekend ( just like a stationary engine 🙂 perfect )

Hello, Thanks so much for making this video, its allowed me to get my 211 up and running kinda OK, she snaps the thread quite often, so I reckon I need to get her timing right and some proper industrial thread. But when she sews she's like a machine gun. My one is made in Japan, she has lost a bit of colour so at some point i'd like to paint her and maybe install an LED near the sewing head so I can see better when threading the needle and recharging the bobin etc. Subbed for any more interesting videos to take care of the 211 series of beasts. I have a 211U567B which is nearly the same machine. I've never been able to figure out the difference. Anyway - I am looking for Needle Bar replacement instruction. I'm wondering if I need to remove the hook assyb prior to removing the bar. But, since I can't find that, I'm going to tear into it and find out. This video will be helpful after I get it installed. Hello neil. Could you please do a video on how to set the stitch width and do a trouble shooting video. The amount of movement for my widest stitch and narrowest stitch is only 1/16” wheel movement. And it doesn’t seem right. There’s way too much room that’s not being used at all. It’s a singer 221u566a also. If I hold the button down and turn the wheel, it doesn’t have very much adjustment that’s usable. And my stitch should be able to go much wider. Thank you in advance.
I just purchased a 211ux567b. Watched your video several times very helpful. How big of thread will this machine handle for sewing leather wondering if it will handle tex 277 with a 200/25 needle.

Fantastic video. Can I ask how I slow the machine down. Minimal petal press and it takes off full speed. I have slacked the belt and taken the take up on the clutch lever and pitman arm to the petal like you showed in the video. The machine runs too fast

Amazing how similar this us to my 111w153. I assume the presser height adjustment button took the place of the screw accessed from the back. Also my machine doesn't spin freely. The timing belt is really tight. Would that cause that? Otherwise works fine
The button did replace the screw. If your machine is not spinning freely first check and make sure your motor belt is off the machine. If the machine is still tight without the belt on then more than likely it is problems within the hook assembly area.
i have a singer 491 and just got it adjusted however I noticed the reverse works up to 6-8spi but literally nothing after 10 or more. Makes locking stitches a pain because it cause a ball of thread in the material unless it does it automatically 🤷♂️
Briefly, I was gifted a Singer walking foot model 1F1w154, serial w987195. It looks like someone tried clearing a jam and took the bobbin and feed assemblies apart. I have the parts but can find no reference to this machine in search of a manual. Anyone out there know this machine? BTW, this is the best video on the subject I have yet seen.

This video is fantastic and I have used it tons. One question. I cannot get the whole Bobbin assembly out and I know there is thread under it. I have the 211g165. Any help is appreciated
You might be able to help. Ive tried to remove the bobbin carrier. I've removed the 3 screws but the bobbin won't lift out. I think there might be thread caught between it and it wont rotate.
Sometimes you have to take two screw drivers , using one as a hammer, and gently tap on the bobbin case base to get it moving around and it will eventually pop out, as long as you have the gib removed. Using a hammer could break it.
Hello Neil, You did a great job with video. I have a singer 211U567KB. The bobbin will not refill due to plastic drive wheel is old and half of it is in pieces. I'm having trouble finding this part. Is this part still available. Thank you.
Does the top cap, that runs the length of the machine, pop off simply by removing the screws on top? I have a Brother LS2-B837 that looks very much like this 211 and after I removed the screws it didn't pry up and I felt some resistance.
It is a pretty big job. You have to remove the whole needle bar rock frame. Once removed then you remove the take up lever, replace with new take up lever and reinstall the rock frame to complete
I have a 211G166, will this be similar? I've had this machine for 20 years and never really used. I'm really getting interested in using Vintage machines.
What he is talking about, I was going to try to attempt this morning. Turns out, the service manual never described how to change the stitch length by pressing the button on the bed of the machine. Instead, they show making the switch adjustments by loosening and turning screws on the underside of the machine. I was sweating bullets at the very thought of doing that. I watched this video again and learned to do it without trying to become a service tech!

It might be me, but at 14:00 it seems like your lower feed dogs are not correctly adjusted in height. I thought a rule of thumb is that on the upstroke, they should stick out approximately 1 tooth over the plate (it seems in this case they not just not stick out, they are actually lower than the plate).

The only way to get oil there would be to take the top cover off.

A servo motor will fix this problem.

My needle is rubbing the bobbin hook as the scarf passes by. I'm on time and it is sewing, but the needle to close has me concerned.
If your machine is the Singer 211 you have to loosen two screws on the hook saddle and tap to the right a tiny bit.
Do you have a tutorial for replacing the take up lever? I have a 111w(something - the model and Singer badge are missing) with a broken take up lever.

It is somewhat hard to find the bobbin winder parts. Your best bet is to buy the standard bobbin winder that you can attach to your table.

what is that small clear plastic container mounted on back of machine? no one has ever bothered to mention it!
It holds Silicone oil for Lubricating the thread when doing a project where your needle heats up. It is not necessary.
I pushed the stitch length button to release my clutch from a jam, now the reverse lever moves when I try to sew. What is going on? Can you help me?

Sometimes there might be a gasket there that has sealed the cover down.

Yes the rule is to adjust the feed dog so the v of the teeth are just sticking up through the plate at the highest stroke.
My 211 has a way of adjusting the timing...
