      @@JohnSmith-uw4jpBecause at the end of the day, there’s two sides to every story. Journalists in school are extensively reminded of the ethics of journalism, and a few of these apply here. First, most of the world relies on a presumption of innocence in journalism. This is the idea that “innocent until proven guilty”. The reasonable doubt in this scenario is that the voice in the call is not truly Sterling, or that the clip is edited/grossly decontextualized. Although this case is 10 years old now so we can say confidently everything here was true, it’s generally seen as unfair for reporters to speak so passionately about a topic because journalists need to account for the fact that the information could not be exactly as presented. This also brings us to one of the fundamental pillars of journalism which is to report objectivity. While everything that Chuck and Kenny are saying is true and justified, there is almost certainly opinions and bias affecting what they say. Generally, the idea of reporting is to only report fact and create fair objective commentary and analysis based on the evidence. They do not fully follow this rule. So while what Shaq is doing can be seen as boring or weak, what he’s really doing is being fair and objective with the evidence provided. If Sterling ended up being actually innocent, it is extremely likely that there would be a lawsuit against TNT for what Chuck and Kenny said to substantiate falsified claims. Shaq, however, gave both sides a fair shake and presented his thoughts in an objective manner while still getting most of his point through. At the end of the day, it’s up to the reporter what approach they want to take, but this show is more about entertainment than providing genuine information, so I’d tend to side with Chuck.

There's no constitutional protection for him in this situation. Perhaps a judge will not permit the recording in any litigation, because he did not consent to it, in which case legally he may not be able to be fired. But for you to think anyone can say whatever they want and not pay a price is silly. Black people say racist comments words against white people often in their speechs, comments, their music without hesitation and think nothing of it, think its not the same. Most vote 90% democratic which has moved them from slavery to economic slavery with the government as the master. They are so brainwashed by black democratic leadership they do not know they are being played. Sad for them and America.

      Leonard Kulas Its not a double standard. We live in a country that had black people as slaves; black people were considered half a man; and we have been traumatized in the past. So, now that this country is just a bit better, any racism brings up that traumatic time. White people have not been slaves, or treated terribly and like second class citizens. So if a black person says

    It would be really interesting to see how the players react if the NBA does not force him out as a owner. If they refused to play, it would send a strong message and would have a much bigger impact compared to Sterling just going out (more or less) silently.

      I don't feel that the guy needs to be forced out based on some dumb comments that he said in the privacy of his home that he had no idea would become public. However, I do feel that he needs to be punished or like chuck said, "suspended immediately". We have seen the philadelphia eagles fail to punish riley cooper for his racist rant. I fear that failure to take a stand would result to this type behavior becoming the norm in sports and in society. I also feel that these recent incidents in sports reflected throught richard igcognito, riley cooper, and now Mr. Sterling has begun to place a real bad reputation on the character of "white folk" in general. So many racists remarks in such short time makes a person question the true intentions and feelings that white people have as a whole towards blacks. Personally, I think racism in the white community is becoming something that is a "true problem", because it's being manifested or revealed these days like it hasn't in recent memory.

If you are just a person like everybody else, then be racist all you want - I won't like it, but it's your business. If you have power and represent an organization like the Clippers and the NBA it's different.

    What I find most deplorable is that Chuck & Shaq seem to think the playoffs are more important than addressing racism in this country. This is an amazing opportunity for the players to stand for something bigger than themselves or the NBA. Shaq's comments stating that there is a lot more at stake (6:00) meaning the playoffs are more important than standing up for this issue is as cretinous of a statement as I've heard in a long time. It would be nice to see the Clippers players speak out against Sterling, and not play a game to bring more awareness to the issue but it's most likely not going to happen. They have little incentive to go against the guy that signs their checks. I have very little faith in our generation and this only adds to my cynicism.

      @TNK8 10 років тому +17

      So they have to stop working because their boss said some inexcusable comments? I know I wouldn't do that, basketball is their job. That is why they have a players union to deal with stuff like this. As a Lakers fan I honestly don't care if they play or not, but making them boycott their job seems pointless. It takes money out of their pockets and won't have any impact that the NBPA wouldn't have separately. Saying you have little faith in our generation is asinine, look at the mess their generation has left us.

    • @alvrgona
      @alvrgona 10 років тому +1

      TNK8 Well, boycotting Donald Sterling is up to the people and the players. Sometimes to make changes, people make sacrifices and in this case the players may have to compromise. Donald Sterling did something morally wrong, however I don't know if there is a law in place that punishes this kind of talking in the NBA.
      In another context to make a change, people have to stand up and disregard their possessions. Sometimes other things becomes a priority other than yourself... Could be your country, your family or your organization. So, there is a point in boycotting Donald Sterling. He has more power and responsibilities than most people. There is nothing illegal about what he said and there is nothing illegal about boycotting him. If you don't like a company and what they stand for... Don't buy.

      TNK8 You fail to see the big picture. This is bigger than a game check or a playoff win. It might seem pointless to you to not play a game but you cannot deny the impact it would make. The coverage and scrutiny Sterling would get would be significant enough to peek even a non-basketball fans' interest. It would send a strong message to the rest of the country about racism and how lamentable such statements and thoughts can be. These players would be standing for a cause much bigger than themselves and it would unite a good portion of the country against bigotry.

      That's a ridiculous expectation. All of them said it's his opinion and he can have his own. Obviously, he isn't racist if he coaches a team that's mostly black in a league of 80 percent black people. He made a racist remark. You have an image of a eutopia where racism doesn't exist. Racism will always exist no matter what. ALWAYS. In the United States, however, there are laws to make sure racism doesn't affect anyone. For example, it's illegal to threaten or hurt someone with race as the incentive. This didn't affect anyone except for the feelings of some people. You expect players to stop winning millions of dollars and not compete for a trophy symbolizing the greatness of the team because of a couple of words the coach said. That won't happen.

Many races that are known to be owners that are either Caucasian or Asian, have always taken advantage of Blacks and their ability to put more $$$$ into their companies, businesses and organizations. It's a SAD truth! I just one day hope that blacks will build our own communities to the point where we are not sooo subject to working for other races that have little to no respect for blacks working hard for them as well as trying to maintain a stable lifestyle economically!

    2:50 - Charles Barkley 'We're a BLACK LEAGUE'.
    That's perfectly fine for him to say and no one gives a shit. Yet what if a commentator said 'This is the NHL. We're a White League', do you honestly think they could get away with that without any reprecussions? I seriously doubt it.

      Also not every black in Africa became a slave you know, so why does every black get a free victim card that they can play everytime they get questioned on something?

      People from the entire world got treated like trash at one time or another in human history so its not like blacks were the only ones mistreated. Go to any country in the world and read their history and you will find people have been oppressed, enslaved and subjugated just like blacks have.
      The difference is that most people in the world MOVED ON and looked to the future rather than continually bringing up the past like it matters in the present and in the future. Blacks on the otherhand keep bringing up the past to explain why they're doing so poorly in the present and in the future too rather than changing themselves to be better people.
      And also non-blacks don't look at blacks differently because of their skin color. They look at blacks differently because of their BEHAVIOR. Not all black people are bad, but alot of bad people are black and its kind of hard to think of blacks positively when they keep causing trouble to other people. If blacks want to be seen in a positive light, then maybe they should stop being so violent and start behaving like normal people. So simple.

When it comes up when I'm at work or hanging out, I just smile and go along and let one ear out through the other and just change the subject. • @2phresh
    @2phresh 10 років тому +4

    Crazy discussion. But it's exactly what Barkley said, people are going to be racist, and you can't do anything about that. The problem with Sterling's racist comments is that he is in an extremely public position of high power. Had he been another old fogey talking about he doesn't want black people at Clippers' games, then he'd just be labeled as a racist, old fogey. But then again, no one would have ever known he was up to his racist antics again if Stiviano didn't expose him.

    • @PaulSchober
      @PaulSchober 10 років тому

      Public position of high power? He privately and wholly owns a sports team. How does that make him a "public figure" with the attendant responsibilities? He's not a teacher or a politician.
      And forgive me, but is what he said so unusual? Have you not heard black people talk about not particularly liking white people, or not having many white friends?
      And do YOU and your friends not occasionally switch to the other side of a dark street when you see a couple young black men walking toward you? If you do, can I also call you racist?
      How many young black male friends do YOU have?

    • @1JayVon
      @1JayVon 10 років тому +3

      Paul Schober What she is referring to is the fact that he is very wealthy, rich, in possession of hundreds of millions of dollars, etc. But most importantly he owns an NBA team. A team of a sport that millions of people watch and are a fan of. That's what makes him a public figure. Anyone who is that rich automatically becomes a public figure because they have money and money gives you power in this world. So yes anything that you say especially remarks like that will draw the publics eye. On a side note, I am black and personally racism doesn't bother me one bit. I think its silly but If someone wants to waste a portion of their life to bad mouth me or live their life hating others of different color, then so be it, I don't care. I will put my short time on earth to better use. As long as they don't touch me or my family then we are good. You can run your mouth all day.

      He said over and over again that he doesn't want her out in public with "black people", and when she asked him if the person she was with was "white" would he be upset, he sidestepped the question and continued to berate her for "publicly" liking black people.
      He's a Jewish supremacist. Racist at his core. The audio is clear.

    "You still have to go out and you know do your job." Shaq, what the hell are you talking about?! That is EXACTLY why we blacks struggle to command respect, especially in the marketplace/commerce. How in the hell is one season of basketball for ONE team more important than ensuring equality for ALL throughout the ENTIRE NBA and general economic marketplace? You all are TOO OLD to be so damn foolish.

    If you have a book that's inherently racist, is it any wonder the person grows up to be a racist? When you believe that you and yours are chosen from God, this is an inconvenient fact that is inextricably racist and ethnocentric.

      +Hamza Asadullah Are some restrictions really necessary? What right does the NYS Attorney General have with trying to stop Draft Kings and Fanduel? Should the Kardashians be restricted from professional athletes and should your Jay's significant other be restricted from the magic of Magic Mike? We have that and much more on No Reservations Podcast Episode 22 "Unnecessary Restrictions."

      joel alicea I will !!!
      There is NO LAW stating that you HAVE to like another CLASS/RACE of people. NOTHING !!! Other than his bylaws that he has with the NBA.
      Ya'll just been brainwashed, dumbed down and still drinkin' da tainted
      kool-aid to think that everybody HAS to accept you. NOT TRUE !!!!!
      I can dislike anybody that I want to dislike, which is MY OPINION.
      You don't have to like my opinion, but I'm also not asking you to
      like my opinion. Ya'll just have been spoon fed for too dayum long
      and it's about time WE (Whitey) break the silence !!! When is
      enough ENOUGH for ya'll to go and live on your own ? You guys
      act like the gub'ment is mama and your the cubs who never leave
      home to go out into the big world on your own. Still being spoon
      fed. We'll hate to break it to you, all that spoon fed shht they are
      feeding you is tainted !!
      See, we know who the real enemy in this world/country is.
      It's the same group that you guys so easily accept an entitlement
      check from every month. Them same people tell you that we (whitey)
      are bad bad vile ppl. So you believe them instead of us. Well no
      worries. A day is going to come in this nation where your people
      are going to be wishing that you would have listened to us and NOT them.
      Wait till you see history repeat itself. Remember, nothing in life is free !!!!
      Just like they are going after CLIVEN BUNDY for monies they say he owes
      for using THEIR LAND, don't think that they aren't going to come back and
      say that YOU own them money, too. And when you don't have shht to pay
      them back what do you think they are going to do to you ????
      Well you don't have to believe me............but just remember...........
      what goes around............comes around. See, a day in history is
      going to come where the gub'ment has you fulfill one of their missions,
      to put the white race in america into extinction. Then what do you think
      comes next for you "foot soldiers" when you walk into the bosses office
      and tell the big man OK BOSS, they're all gone, EXTINCT !!!
      Well I'll put it to you this way. Remember all that old farm equipment
      that became extinct ? It'll all be brought back to life one day.
      YOU will be that farm equipment, brought back to life !!!!!
      Don't believe me ? Oh well, figured that. You don't believe anything WE
      say, just what the good ole gub'ment tells you what to think !!!
      BIG DUMMIES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But the joke isn't on us, it's on YOU !!!!!!

    If I was Sterling I would tell all the players if they want to leave the team go ahead I will rip up the contracts and they can leave and be free agents. I bet you none of them would leave because the all mighty dollar trumps racism. You can't make him sell the team, they may fine him or suspend him. So it looks like the players will have to just grin and bear it.

    • @DEFACTO9
      @DEFACTO9 10 років тому +4

      6 major sponsors have suspended or rescinded sponsorship. There is no team if the players leave. They have talent, they will find other plays elsewhere. but why should the fans suffer. its not his team, he just a right to own that team ...untill now. He must leave the game, he has brought international disrepute to the game and black, Latino, Hispanic people. Its beyond retrievable.

    • @HotLeadretired

    His black players are still making millions under the ownership of his team.. Did anyone get physically hurt or get their freedom revoked by Sterling's comments? No. In fact, he expressed his opinion and got flamed for it. Is there freedom of speech or not? It's not like he committed any sort of hate crime. As hurtful as many believe the comments to be, Sterling has all the right to express them. It doesn't matter if you take offense to the comments or not, it's his right. I hope Sterling wins the legal battle. The NBA overreacted to an infinite degree. How can someone be forced to sell their private property? Did he sign anything in that regard when he bought the team?
