    Thanks for yet another great video! ❤ I sat and studied your Birkin while you talked about it and there seem to be very, very few increases in the colourwork and that is probably the problem - there needs to be space for shoulders and boob. 😅 If there are too few increases the yoke moves up towards your shoulders. Re the Sandnes patterned cardigan, I’m surprised there isn’t steeking for the armholes as well, so you knit the whole body in the round up to the neckline. This is how most Norwegian colourwork garments are made. Knitting busy colourwork flat is hard work. 😃

      @KnittingByTheBay  17 годин тому

      I think you're right about the increases. I think her original pattern didn't have any and I can't imagine how that would have fit 😵‍💫 It's a shame because the colour work is very pretty! Thanks so much for watching 🤗

    Oh my gosh you made me laugh so hard at the start. You were waving your hand around non stop and my daughter asked me, what are you doing Mum? apparently I was waving back hahahahahahaha. sometimes we don't know what we are doing! I'll try not to wave when you do. lololol! your hair looks great. I haven't had short hair since childhood so it scares me but one day I will have to get rid of the long hair. Hopefully there's some style that will suit me.

    Enjoyed your podcast - first time watching. IMHO you should cut and rip out the neckline ribbing and reknit. It is such a lovely sweater. Once you rip out the ribbing you should have an idea how to fix the neckline. Your haircut looks fabulous!

    You have beautiful knits and I hope you can wear the Misurina when its not that warm anymore. It would look so great with black trousers or jeans and also with white ones. Or with a skirt as well. I think the Tynn Line feels good on skin and if you wash it in a washing machine with cold water and a gentle wash program I think it will even up the knitted fabric . It will shrink propably in warmer temperatures so not too warm water.
    I have also knit the Birkin - this was years ago, 2018, but I remember people were complaining about the pattern. I think I had no problems because I knit size 3 though I used to choose size 2 sometimes. Anyway I think that the problem many had in their sweaters was that it was actually too tight from the shoulders and that causes the problem with the neckline. And it is a problem in the pattern because it has no increases during the colourwork - if I remember right. Last time I wore my Birkin I noticed same kind of problem on the neckline and I think it´s because I´ve gained some weight and there´s not enough room there for my shoulders anymore for the sweater to fall freely. This is my interpretation of the problems in the pattern. I have worn the sweater during the years, it´s not too warm because I used fingering weight yarn and because the body and hem are with lower gauge.

      @KnittingByTheBay  7 днів тому

      I think that is the problem with the Birkin that the yoke is just not wide enough for my shoulders. Even though the updated pattern does have some increases in it, there just aren't enough for me (I also knit a size 3)

    OMG!! Your hair looks super cute! I'm sorry you did not 'love' either of your last two finished projects. I feel your pain.
    I have the flower cardigan in my queue...Im sure it's out of my league, but yours looks so good I may give it a try. Fully appreciate your opinions /feedback/ suggestions...hoping to see you wearing it next episode.

    I rarely ever make warm weather items (other than sewing) because they're too warm even in a cotton or bamboo yarns, I could try linen but most likely won't. My one cotton/bamboo blend top that I've made turned out to be perfect for me in cooler Spring/Fall or warmer Winter weather. I've found that I need to go down needle sizes with Caitlin Hunter patterns, but I am a looser knitter. I have made 3 Misurina sweaters but I made them with fingering weight yarns and long sleeves for our Winter weather. I just tend to only be able to wear DK and worsted or heavier weight garments in the coldest weather because I run warmer most of the time.

    Hi; the Forager sweater looks really cute. I have Isabella Kramer's Fjolia sweater pattern on my needles now. I've been trying to finish two Cumulus tee's before summer ends, I just wish I had the time! Have a great day!

    Gorgeous makes, both knitted and sewn! So many of these are in my plans too.😊 I decided years ago against the Birkin for exactly the reasons you mentioned. It’s a pity, because the colorwork is beautiful. However, it looks stunning on, so if it’s not too uncomfortable to wear, then you do have a terrific sweater! How did you get the flower cardigan pattern for free? I can’t seem to figure out how to access it. I’ve often heard if you buy the sandness yarn, then you can get one of their pattern magazines. I would want to use their yarn.
    The lakeside footage and garden were beautiful and so relaxing, thank you!!

      I downloaded the flower cardigan pattern for free here: www.sandnes-garn.com/mo-2102-blomsterjakke I didn't have to buy any yarn to get it ☺️

    Your Birkin is beautiful. I have had the yarn to knit this for years but have been waiting cause of the fit problems others have had. Love your review. Do you think a provincial cast on ( leaving stitches live) and doing the neck after knitting the sweater could help solve the problem? Again love your color choices. Thank you .

      Thanks so much and thank you for watching! 🤗 I'm glad you enjoyed the review. Unfortunately the problem with for is within the color work so doing the neck after wouldn't work 😞

    Hi, first time I have watched your podcast. I'm in Australia. I knitted the Birkin using Rowan Felted Tweed and had the same issue with the ill fitting yoke and neckline. I tried blocking it but it still didn't fit and just looked bad and was uncomfortable to wear......so ripped it out, caked up the yarn, it was costly and now the yarn is sitting waiting for a new sweater pattern.

    • @KnittingByTheBay
      @KnittingByTheBay  21 день тому

      Sometimes you just have to rip it out. Yarn is expensive! You don't want to waste it on a sweater you'll never wear 😞

    I've done the Birkin and my neckline lies flat against my body. It does not funnel. Think my yoke has more ease than you have in yours which gives the neckline more room. I did do a lot of research before I cast on, but it's a sweater I'm most proud of. Love your colorway.

    I have avoided this pattern for years because I knew she had never sorted it out. I just don't know why she can't fix it. It's like the issues there are with Andrea Mowrey's patterns -they all have a huge bunching up in front of the armholes above the boobs. almost every one of her designs has that bunching there. I think rebecca clow has some of that bunching too and I know it doesn't exist in other designs. I WANT to like both of those designers patterns but I just see this fault too often in their work and I do think it's a design fault when other designers have found ways to avoid this. OHMY GOSH, even four colours for a few rows is brave lol! I try to only do 2 colours at a time, that's my limit :-)

    • @KnittingByTheBay

      It is strange that it never got sorted out completely. It's a really beautiful color work design so it's a shame. But I will still wear my because I am proud of it!! Thanks so much for watching the episode!! 🤗💕

    Could you stitch a little clothing tag or decorative patch over the flaw on the back of your dress? That might look cute and intentional.
