At times he tended to have a safety first approach which is why the USA didn't really take to him at first. After the Holyfield and Tyson fights I think they understood he was for real. He's got one of the best resumes in heavyweight boxing really.
Lewis could also swell his opponents eyes up pretty quickly with his jab peppering them over and over and over round after round. He would establish a rhythm with the jab, get his opponent to start anticipating it, and then break his rhythm and nail them with the 1-2 combo to the chin. He also had a devastating right uppercut, especially when he would fight on the inside. The biggest difference between Bowe and Lennox was that Lennox was a mover as well. He wasn't just flat footed all the time.

I wasn't really a fan of Lewis...but he was a good fighter with amazing punching power. He just seemed a bit cocky...even now to say he had no tough fights?...come on. And a few of those bigger names that he defeated were already a little older passed their prime. But he's definitely respectable as a heavyweight boxer.
the greatest heavyweight of all time. bar none. john sullivan, jack johnson, dempsey, joe louis, marciano, ali, foreman, larry holmes, IRON MIKE, the real deal.... HOLYYYYYYFIELD, klitzschko, AJ, Fury....lennox beat em all. too big, too strong, too explosive, too smart...we gots to clone this man lol
@@MRRizwan8074 age old adage in boxing: a good big man will always beat a good little man. lewis's physical advantages at 6'5" coupled with emanual stewards guidance made him too big and too smart. lennox was 37 mike was a year younger at 36 when they fought. so there was NO age advantage. even if they fought 10-15 years earlier the physics work out the same. bigger good beats little good theyd just be younger and faster at it. added to that, lewis could fight on the back foot and wait for you to bring it so he could counter. with his reach he could pick off mike before he got inside. stop being a fan boy. it makes you stupid.
Sir, I agree with your logic that a good bigger man beats a good smaller man. Respect! All I am saying is that Holyfield was a warrior in his mentality. Because of this mentality he took too many hits and his career was short lived. Holyfield that fought George Forman would have beat Lennox. My reasoning is that Lennox didn’t have the same mentality (strength). Tyson was close in age but was already spent because of his lifestyle. Again, short career in prime. Tyson that was with Kevin Rooney (prior to Don King) would have beaten Lennox. This is just my hypothesis. Much respect to Kronks Gym and late Emanuel Steward. He definitely was an asset to Lennox. I just found Holyfield to be an outstanding in heart, determination, skill, and being humble.
a prime George Foreman vs Lewis would have been a great fight. Foreman was a beast, but his trainer was not as good as Steward, thus Foreman would go rounds at a time without using his jab, and he'd throw more wild types of punches. Old George could not have beaten Lewis though. Old George was still very strong, but not enough speed.
Second best ever after he got Steward as trainer. Iron Mike with Cus beats him though. This is on a night where all boxers performance is at their personal best.
No Way a prime Ali does not lose to Lennox Lewis. NO WAY! Ali had one of the best chins in all boxing. Lewis would of been chasing him and getting destroyed by Ali's jabs
I've seen lots of ppl say Ray won that bout. I disagree. Lennox connected more power shots, especially with that thunderous uppercut. And he definitely blocked a lot of Mercer's punches. Mercer also a great chin. But notice the mass he put on compared to the Holyfield bout when he was lighter. To deal with the power of Lennox. Though it was a close bout in the end. Much respect to both legendary champions✊🏿👏🏿💪🏿🥊👑
You guys don't get it. He had loads of tough fights as a matter of fact most of his fights were tough so how do you expect him to pick one. For eg Holyfield 2 was a tough fight, Mercer was a tough fight Bruno was a tough fight and I can keep going. Now how do you expect him to pick one. Now orher boxers have loads of easy fights so of course they can pick one but Lewis career wasn't like that.
But Mike Tyson was not the same fighter! I can't count that. I think holyfield, Tyson and ridick bowe would beat Lewis Ps. Look up Gene kim n Chuck missler on UA-cam!!!!!!
Mike was way past that “iron mike” stage when that fight happened… same goes with David tua, except tua didn’t get knocked out, Lewis basically was too scared to let tua work on the inside to get knocked tf out
You're smoking crack. Lennox Lewis was great, no doubt, but Lewis in his prime, vs Mike Tyson in his prime, Lewis is going to sleep in less than 3 rounds.
@@ariq1731 Yea, a statement like that clearly shows you're delusional. Lewis is not known at all for having "fast hands". Because he didn't. There's not a chance in hell that Lewis' hands could of kept up with prime Mike Tyson's footwork or amazing head movement. Lewis would not of been able to "box" Tyson away. Tyson would of been able to easily close the gap between them, and unload on Lewis. And again, no chance in hell Lewis could just eat prime Tyson's power. No Damn way. Notice how the modern day fighters never can just answer a straightforward question , there's always an excuse attached to it ,there is always loopholes in there answer. versus someone like Muhammad Ali if you ask him who was your toughest fighter he'll just come out and say it and give credit where credit is due. Today's fighters can never admit they were close to loosing a fight etc.Lewis could never be considered a legend because being reliable in the ring is the most important thing. Muhammad Ali was never counted out, never dropped from one punch .Ali stayed on the cameras for a second than jumped right back up whereas this man got knocked out by a surprise punch twice from fighters that were no big deal.Lewis also lost to Kilichico ..... beating somebody is not having the fight stoped when the other fighter is ahead.
No he would not. Ray mercer was more skilled, had a bigger reach , taller, end had about 60 pounds over Marciano. Rocky was just a small slugger with no skills.
Reinaldo Manuel yeah but he easily disposed of joe Louis who was 212 at the fight. Yeah he was not in his prime but we are still talking about joe Louis here. I mean GGG keeps kicking ass at 38. He sounds less British and more Canadian these days. Is he living over there now might explain it? Was the other way round 20 years ago
his toughest fights were zelkjo mavrovic & vitaliy
Bro why is he so fucking fresh? This guy is slick asf
What a great show. Can u guys help me out? IM a former boxer from kitchener club 1978 till 80s I trained with so many great fighters lenox whom i called junior, . I want to say hi to lennox. IM bob wise . im shure he d want to say hi .
Lewis is the true GOAT of boxing.
This mam was a BEAST! The Best Heavyweight Champion Ever point blank period!
Hell you been smoking? 🤨
No wonder the Mercer fight was good
Thanks Don King for the 15FT ring
Vitali Klitschko retired him.
Merciless Ray Mercer was a beast
He had RIPARADISE Tommy Morrison unconsciously pleading for mercy
One of the most godawful brutal knockouts of all time
Smmfh
Top of the line 💯
Excellent
I wasn't really a fan of Lewis...but he was a good fighter with amazing punching power. He just seemed a bit cocky...even now to say he had no tough fights?...come on. And a few of those bigger names that he defeated were already a little older passed their prime. But he's definitely respectable as a heavyweight boxer.
Lennox Lewis (Mister Legend) ❤️❤️❤️
the greatest heavyweight of all time. bar none. john sullivan, jack johnson, dempsey, joe louis, marciano, ali, foreman, larry holmes, IRON MIKE, the real deal.... HOLYYYYYYFIELD, klitzschko, AJ, Fury....lennox beat em all. too big, too strong, too explosive, too smart...we gots to clone this man lol
Holyfield was past his prime. Holyfield in prime would have beat Lennox. Same is true of Tyson, prime Tyson would have beaten Lennox
Sir,
I agree with your logic that a good bigger man beats a good smaller man.
I personally wud like to ask Lennox that some people said you don't like boxing that much, so you retired at very early age. Is that true?
Second best ever after he got Steward as trainer. Iron Mike with Cus beats him though. This is on a night where all boxers performance is at their personal best.
This guy is my personal favourite. I think on his day, he could defeat even Ali, but on foreman, that would be a hell of a fight.
No Way a prime Ali does not lose to Lennox Lewis. NO WAY! Ali had one of the best chins in all boxing. Lewis would of been chasing him and getting destroyed by Ali's jabs
@@wraynephew6838
I wouldn't write Lewis off...... He was a talented and strong boxer......
Legend !!
The best of his generation!
Mercer out boxed him. It should be a draw I think.
i would pay to be at the q&a. too bad i live in italy
Most people say that was draw and I believe the same. Lennox didn't win neither Mercer. They should had a rematch
Great champion..👑
vitali beat lennox in all rounds!
vitalu was better than you
You guys don't get it.
He beat Iron Mike, that was a excellent fight 👏
But Mike Tyson was not the same fighter! I can't count that. I think holyfield, Tyson and ridick bowe would beat Lewis
Ps. Look up Gene kim n Chuck missler on UA-cam!!!!!!
Mike was way past that “iron mike” stage when that fight happened… same goes with David tua, except tua didn’t get knocked out, Lewis basically was too scared to let tua work on the inside to get knocked tf out
Lewis def on that ganja 😂👌🏽
He’s got Jamaican blood🤣🤣🤣
Or on the brain damage...
Boxing legend
The best heavyweight ever, therefore the best ever overall, glad I got to see him fight
You're smoking crack. Lennox Lewis was great, no doubt, but Lewis in his prime, vs Mike Tyson in his prime, Lewis is going to sleep in less than 3 rounds.
@@thedevil3890 you smoking too much oregano, sticks and stems, Lewis Kos prime Tyson easy 🛌
Love him or hate him, but even the best boxing experts say that a focused, in his prime, Mike Tyson would absolutely shred Lewis. Sorry bro, but Tyson truly was on another level in his prime. And sadly, no heavy weight champ since Tyson has even come close.
@@thedevil3890 You mean Mike who was terrified of Lennox and Evander and ducked them like the plauge.
Lennox and Mike shared 6 opponents. Lennox beat 5 of them faster than Mike did.
Lennox has a much better record than Mike. Mike didnt fight a top 10 opponent until he was 28-0
Lennox was 15-0 when he fought 35-0 33 Ko gary mason, who was top 10 ranked
Lennox reigned for over twice as long as Mike
@@dylanburston7453 not disagreeing with whatever stats you put forward. Definitely disagreeing that Mike was terrified of either Lewis or evander. And DEFINITELY disagree that Lewis or evander had a chance against prime Mike Tyson. Sorry, completely different animals
He avoided Ike ibeabuchi
No he didn't. Ibeabuci was sent too prison almost immediately after he was considered a real contender. Lewis didn't even have a chance to duck him or fight uim
I mean I don’t think anyone wanted any smoke with Ike. Only tua. Which I thought tua won. Anyways it’s sad Ike went to prison he would have easily been one of the great champs
Really?.. I've never heard that but it's interesting.
@@anthonytoler718 look up the Tua vs Ike the President fight.
@@94FADE bruh Ike Ibeabuchi was on them roids tough too when he fought Tua. It was a good fight tho.
Hi
His most dificult fight was 12rds with zeljko mavrovic
Not at all. Tell me in which possible way did mavrovic cause him more problems than holyfield 2 or mercer. This was as routine work as it came. Barely got out of 2nd gear. It wasnt the prettiest fight for sure but hard no chance.
@@bensmithkent22 you're talking nonsense here, when both Emanuel Stuart and lenox Lewis said that the fight was hard and strange ... Take a look at the statements of the people involved in the event, fighters trainers before you decide to fart out of your mouth,
Aw, come on Lennox. If you can't say Mercer gave you a tough fight, at least give him credit for being a tough guy. Which he was.

You only pretend most American fighters aren't classy because we're the best and always in the spotlight. Every other country is below is in every way, especially talent for sports.

Smoking the Jamaican pine leaf has Lewis here
- No guy tess'
Huh. The way he pronounced his own name at the end; I heard Don King pronounce it like that and thought he was an idiot for it. Turns out he was the only one saying correctly.
You lose all credibility when you claim he lost to Klitschko. Busting someone up is a legitimate way to win. Vitali quit and so Lewis wins by TKO.
Rocky Marciano would have given him a tough fight same as Mercer
No he would not. Ray mercer was more skilled, had a bigger reach , taller, end had about 60 pounds over Marciano. Rocky was just a small slugger with no skills.
Reinaldo Manuel yeah but he easily disposed of joe Louis who was 212 at the fight. Yeah he was not in his prime but we are still talking about joe Louis here. I mean GGG keeps kicking ass at 38. Plus rocky had more stamina and conditioning that mercer i think, and a harder punch . Lennox’ chin is suspect
marks man joe Louis is no where Near The Size Of Lennox Lewis. Lennox was 6’5 253 vs Tyson and the lightest he was, was 236. That weight and height alone would of Smothered Both Rocky and Joe Louis
Very Handsome you realise that Louise was 25 pounds heavier than rocky fight night ryt? Now don’t tell me Louis was old and shit
marks man joe louis was old, Man You already knew he was old before i could even get that out lol. Youth Beats Older Fighters More likely then not. Joe Louis was pretty much on his way out of the sport not to long after that fight.
Lennox ❤️♥️❤️
What a unique accent
It was Captain America
RAY MERCER Exelente boxeador se la jugaba siempre
