This game has ALWAYS been one of my favorites. Not just within Dragon Ball, but of all time - Hope I could do it justice! What's your favorite Dragon Ball game?
I love this game so much too, so glad to see this. Have you ever played DBZ: Legendary Super Warriors for the GBC? I definitely recommend a guide for it if you ever decide to play it, cause you do need to do some really specific things to unlock every character, but it's a cool card deck battler RPG-esc game. It can be really brutal and I swear the opponents cheat at times, but it's still just so worth playing. These 2 games were my handheld childhood right next to the Megaman Battle Network games and Pokemon. I'd love to see you cover them

I ended up easily whooping Cell at base form. Lol! Also, I didnt bother with Mr. Satan. He is too hard to grind. I just watched the secret ending on UA-cam. Also, I love the cooler optional boss. I made sure I beat him with Goku to be "canon" kinda? We fought on New Namek for some reason.
Dude that takes some foresight to prepare gohan like that (I mean not really if you’ve seen the anime) but still, respect! I fought cooler after cell so my goku was RIP, but I distinctly remember doing the same thing on my initial playthrough. If only I remembered this time around lol
It’s just the peak of how games were. Hercule wasn’t no paid dlc you actually had to play the game unlock him and get some bonus content out of it. They learned from the first game and just came back harder with legacy of goku 2. I would say it def holds up today and even can teach people what gaming really is/was about, fun.
Well said, man. I feel like games in general just have a different aura entirely now then they did 15ish years ago. But I guess all forms of entertainment are feeling more and more cash grabby as the years go by lol

They made a ton of what I can best describe as unlicensed arcade knock offs for PC. But hey, it paid off, they made some pretty impressive Dragon Ball games, so who am I to question anything?
For real man, with how popular DBZ, arguably at its first peak was in America at the time, I don’t understand why more reputable devs weren’t contracted but it all worked out in the end 😂

Got my introduction to DBZ (had no idea who Frieza was at first and thought Piccolo fighting the Triceratops King was canon lol) through this game and it was a massive part of my childhood for being an absolute blast to play all around. The Bruce Falconer OST remixes, the Scouter system, the unlockable hold-A-to-charge attacks... It really is a gem, and more anime stories need to made into Legacy of Goku-likes. I remember the triceratops grind with all my characters and was so fun to see them improve in strenght… after i unlock hercule, became a hell of repetitions… best memories
The Goku vs Cell fight was memorable for me in this game. I did manage to drain down Cell's HP while maintaining the super saiyan form and then Goku decided to give up at the very last second where my ki energy was about to ran out. It felt very accurate to the show for me aside from the fact that Goku took just a small damage since I was trying my best to manuver and dodge during the fight since in this game, Cell and Cell Jrs. do hit hard.
The Goku vs Cell fight is definitely one of my favorite aspects as well. I love how it’s broken up into two phases, and as you said feels very true to the anime. And yeah bro, cell juniors were actually a pain in the ass lol, even more so then cell I think
@@mysteriousthirteen This actually has to do with them being smaller. Cell is gigantic and its easier to combo large enemies as your positioning doesn't need to be as accurate. It is also why those damn ladybug lasers are so annoying.
Best dbz game ever for sure. But also one of the best gba games ever created. Because of the 10\10 graphics, sound!, and game mechanic. I only wish there was a hardcore mode where you get rekt, because at some point i got so good that the game wasnt a challenge anymore
unironically Hercule is stupidly OP in this game. I mean sure he lacks in stats but his screen wide stun which he can pretty much spam is broken beyond belief.
If you have the foresight to save most of the capsules and later apply them to Hercule, imo he becomes roughly as strong as Piccolo and/or Vegeta, making the level 40 to 50 grind a breeze to unlock the amusing alternate ending.
The best way to get to level 50 is the tropical island, i hit level 50 on Vegeta & Trunks before fighting semi perfect cell and it was WAYYYYYY FASTER than the dinos, esp if youre on emulator
I only ever played the first game, this one looks so much better! I'm curious how much of an improvement the 3rd one was over the 2nd! Excellent video dude you put some awesome time and effort in to making these. Love the passion man and it tells me more about a game I never got the chance to play.
Wow, I’m shocked you never got the chance to check out this masterpiece - If you have the time and resources I definitely recommend it! So glad you enjoyed the vid and Thank you man, that means a lot. Quality over quantity is what I aim for lol
I'm sure someone's let you know by now, but there's actually a variable that determines if Hercule is unlocked at level 1 or level 40. If you train Goku up to level 50 before he dies, you get level 40 Hercule. If you don't get Goku to level 50, Hercule is unlocked at level 1 instead.
this game was the precedent, the starting block, the OG handheld dbz game and it showed a glimpse of the potential dbz had. I personally love the Buu Saga, so it was like Thanos collecting the last Infinity Stone when I got to play Buu's Fury. The ULTIMATE dbz game, improved on gl2 AND added a little more extra for the hardcore fans
This is my favorite dragon ball. Z I was 13 years old when this came out it was a banger I remember having my game boy advance and I lend my friend the legacy of goku 1 and borrow this it was fun times back then
I like to see your perspective on this. I was 17 in 2002, but i also had the watched the entire series by 2001. I became a fan in 96 from the Ocean Dub. I had to watch the entire saiyan arc once a week, no internet. This lead into the ginyu force fight. At the time, the dub stopped there. But then i got internet and started playing all the super famicom dbz games through emulation There was little to no information out so id watch countless liw quality clips, not knowing what is, and isnt cannon between movie clips and TV clips. Eventually, being from New Jersey, i discovered a great secret in little china town in New York. People there woukd go to japan, record the Series on VHS with english subtitles, then sell it to us in NYC. Essentially by the time the frieza arc finished in america, i was finished with rhe maijin buu saga and started watching every movie. It was an interesting time to be a "japanimation" fan.
Man, that sounds magical. I too remember the dub only going up to the ginyu fight and being very confused when it continued to repeat from the beginning. But, I was way too young to understand what the reasoning for this might be, or even that the series had finished airing elsewhere in the world. That must have been an incredible time man!
11:15 - I experimented a bit as a kid and found that Gohan can access the Triceratops King quest on Piccolo’s behalf. So I always just did it as Gohan instead since he was my favorite growing up.
Truly. It feels like they had people on the team who really knew the ins and outs of the franchise on this one. Where the first one it felt like they just read dbz wiki lol
I thought you got the most EXP fighting the Green Egg Bots in the Ninja District, trying to reach Lv 50. It's still slow in the last few levels, but I think it only took me like an hour and a half to get Hercule from 1 to 50 there.
Another cool variation to the forms like Vegeta and Trunks being stronger but slower is Piccolo when he goes super namek. Piccolo gets stronger but he doesn’t really speed up, instead of speed he gains the ability to regen health constantly while in that form. Occasionally I would need to use a health item when playing as anyone else but with Piccolo I never needed it because if I lost health I would just go super namek.
Also, i literally just beat this game a week or two ago and when I unlocked Hercule he was level 40 but maybe Hercule’s level is based on the other characters levels or side quests? Before I fought Cell I had finished every mission and quest and had level capped everyone including Goku. Maybe capping Goku lets you get Hercule at a higher level since there wasn’t any door or reward you could unlock when Goku gets to 50?
Just discovered this channel tonight. I love these old GBA games, even the first one. Haven't browsed what else is on the channel but still an easy Like and Sub from me. I'm tuned in. Ty for the entertainment.
My favorite part of the game was the scouter database! It was like having a DBZ encyclopedia before i had easily accessible internet back then! Id make sure to scan every last NPC and enemy so id have a comprehensive database!
Fun fact how you mentioned you were in the store in the game and saw the gamboy on the counter on the other counter are snes games some are easy to tell what they are and others have caused debate between fans on what they could be
You just got a new sub man. Well done video. Love the breakdown of every aspect of this masterpiece. When you said 21 years later that hit me so hard. I was in elementary when this game was released and was one of my favorite games in my entire life. Still have it to this day. Going to check out your other videos now. 😆🫡
Comments like this make my day, so thank you bro! I was in elementary as well, so we’re probably about the same age. Hope you enjoyed some of my other content!
I thought you were AI in the beginning til I saw you talking. Impressive, I think lol. My favorite DB game is Budokai 3 or attack of the saiyans, depending on my mood. Attack of the saiyans is criminally overlooked.
I’ve never gotten that before lol. thank you? 😂 and bro, Attack of the saiyans is so damn good. We really need more turn based db games, the formula works so well . Can’t wait to review it down the road
@mysteriousthirteen too bad it sold like ass because monolith was prepared for a sequel at least it seems that way based on where in the story the game ends.
Fans probably wanted another typical dbz fighting game, and didn’t even give AOTS a chance. Personally I bought every dbz game, not expecting to love it as much as I did
I remember buying Legacy of Goku 1 & 2 as a bundle… you can guess which one was played more. This may have been the first game I ever played where I finished the game and said, alright time for round 2.
Yeah, it was definitely one of the first games that really blew me away. I remember being so disappointed with LOG1 and had my expectations so low. That made it even more mind blowing when it was actually a great game lol
I legit have this bundle in my GBA SP right now cause I've been trying to get myself to go back and play it, though I promised myself I'd finish Fire Emblem on the Switch Virtual Console first, since I've never played that one before. I'm 2/3rds through Fire Emblem, so I'm gonna be playing Legacy of Goku 2 by the weekend. So hype!
I think it be cool if they made a new one of these with all the super and movies for the story, maybe even gt. Also ik it’s cliche but I have to say bt3 for character roster is my favorite. Also love xenoverse 2 and my cuz and me played a lot of raging blast 2. Also speaking of completing games , I completed rage blast 2 100% then realized the missions that had me going insane when you start with one health , well there’s an item to negative that effect you can unlock smh.
I’ve always wanted another Legacy of Goku. Kakarot was definitely inspired by it, but didn’t quite nail the arcs like these did, just my opinion though. But yeah, I have to agree BT3 is definitely top tier when it comes to character roster! I’ll get around to reviewing the BT series and after, probably raging blast in the next few months!
I never watched Dragon Ball Z growing up (I liked Sailor Moon more), but I still knew the plot thanks to the video games, namely Budokai 1’s story mode and Buu’s Fury. I played Legacy of Goku 1 first but being my first exposure to the story and in limited gba form, I rarely had any idea what was going on so I don’t count it. Also it was frustrating.
Legacy of Goku II, metroid Fusion, Megaman Zero, F zero maximum velocity, Street fighter alpha 3, Golden Sun were the games i played too much. GBA was underrated even for its success!
I just got a copy, I grew up with legacy of goku(which sucked) and buus fury(which was amazing) heard people like this one more than buus fury so I’m hyped to check it out.

Maybe capping Goku lets you get Hercule at a higher level since there wasn’t any door or reward you could unlock when Goku gets to 50?
Liking this before watching because I too love Legacy of Goku 2.
Legacy of Goku II: Electric Boogaloo
I have the double cart with both this and the original on it.
Which one did you play more? Lol
@@mysteriousthirteen is that a rhetorical question? What do you think? 2
@@Max-zv8hm yessssiirrrr it was meant to be a joke
@@mysteriousthirteen yeah I figured. So I hit you with the rhetorical statement.
Just discovered this channel tonight. I love these old GBA games, even the first one. Haven't browsed what else is on the channel but still an easy Like and Sub from me. I'm tuned in. Ty for the entertainment.
There really is something special about games from this era. Welcome aboard! Glad you enjoy the content
i haave all three games i still play them all the way through and 100% them their so good
My favorite part of the game was the scouter database! It was like having a DBZ encyclopedia before i had easily accessible internet back then! Id make sure to scan every last NPC and enemy so id have a comprehensive database!
Yooooo. So glad you posted this vid. I was wondering if you'd do a review of 2. Def. the glue to the franchise in my opinion. :D
Absolutely agree man. They really shined a good light on the series with this one. So many good memories!
Fun fact how you mentioned you were in the store in the game and saw the gamboy on the counter on the other counter are snes games some are easy to tell what they are and others have caused debate between fans on what they could be
I just checked and I have no idea how I missed that before lol. So cool!
It had the Falconer score but in 8 bit, was it unofficially made or only for usa? Because though it's good felt like it was American madw right?
Man I remember the first game and never beating it without the immortality cheat code, I had no clue there were two sequels
So hype!
the dinosaur egg quest is very easy once you learn their patterns
You ever play the Yu Yu Hakusho GBA game? Covered the anime all the way up to the dark tournament saga. I loved that game. The 3rd LoG is good too.
I hated the egg mission
Egg mission still haunts me
I think it be cool if they made a new one of these with all the super and movies for the story, maybe even gt.
I’ll get around to reviewing the BT series and after, probably raging blast in the next few months!
and then when buus fury dropped. i really think thats aasterpiece as far as gba’s go
but i spent sooooo much time with 2
Both some of my favorite games of all time
This and Attack of the Saiyans imo are some of the greatest game based on Dragon Ball ever made.
I believe Hercules power level for the game is based off your characters but I recall it being level 40
I’ve heard that too! Couldn’t figure out how it works during my playthrough though
Top 10 Video Games ever made. And as a fan of anime/manga its a special special game
Not going to lie, I recall Hercules starting at level 40 also
If you get Goku to level 50 before he dies, Hercule will start at level 40.
I played always as an overleveled character if I could that was fun, just train with the weighted clothes
This game did what first one wanted to do but actually do an amazing job
It’s pretty impressive how they rectified their mistakes from the first one. Now if we only had a remaster of LOG1 my life would be complete lol
@mysteriousthirteen the game had potential and I'd like to see what they do if the remake the game
I just got a copy, I grew up with legacy of goku(which sucked) and buus fury(which was amazing) heard people like this one more than buus fury so I’m hyped to check it out.
This might be a Mandela effect, but I swear there was a way to stop the rain in tbd trunks prologue
The remixed soundtrack is one of the best things of the game and buus fury
I love this Dragon Ball Z game!
I've never played this but I always had the doubt... Why ppl always talk about Legacy of Goku II, but not the first part?
Check out my video on LOG1 for the answer lol
Is your name Casey Miller? You should be the new morning announcer.
Cooler has different dialogue if you play as Goku and Hercules's starting level is random. Had him start at 40 or 1.
I knew I wasn’t going crazy lol, def started as level 40 on my OG playthrough
still my top dbz game buus fury right there too
Still never understood, why the Buu-Saga Characters were on the Game☠️
But i loved the Game,i sometimes still Play it on my old Nintendo DS
Thats the eu cover
They got the buu saga way before the us got it like mexico
@@OHHHHUSBANT Still a Scam,there was no Buu-Saga in LOG2!xD
i absolutely love this game. (2)
All 3 are iconic in their own way
I’m going….to leave…. A comment
dude
when this shit dropped, i fucking flipped shit! WORLDS BETTER AND DIFFERENT FROM THE the first was so fucming hard, i disnt even beat ir until i got older
Same here bro! And I could never finish the first as a kid, think I replayed it when I was in college or something lol
The best game for gba ever!
And Golden Sun😅
Deadass!
"Highest regarded" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Why you chirpin my vocabulary bro 😂
@@mysteriousthirteen sorry recently "regarded" is a very funny word
The success of LoG2 can be traces to the trash of LoG1 😂😂😂😂
your voice doesnt match your face at all, you look like youd talk like someone from goodfellas
I'm sorry but, people only loved this game because it had ssj2 teen Gohan. That's it, cell sucks as a villain and
(Ok I can't keep making a joke to be heavily exaggerating)
😂😂
lol I never touched this because I got stuck with the first game
its THE game
why do you talk like this?
Facts
Your cadence is killing me. No way you speak like that.
12:30 I got stuck here and just grinded Vegeta to lvl 50. Also loved the soundtrack which was new to me as a European.
still wish they make a game like this for kid Goku.
I sucked at these games. Therefore i hated them 🤣🤣
Hey bro at least you can admit it 😂
