  • Dig into two testing techniques for viruses: PCR tests to diagnose an infection and immunoassays to detect antibodies.
    --
    A new virus emerges and spreads like wildfire. In order to contain it, researchers must first collect data about who’s been infected. Two main viral testing techniques are critical: one tells you if you have the virus and the other shows if you’ve already had it. So, how exactly do these tests work? Cella Wright explores the science of PCR tests and immunoassays.

      Some people, even some who aren’t in support of specific political figures, have fallen prey to misinformation and believe the virus is not very dangerous. They may believe the measures taken to prevent the spread are unnecessary. They may believe the virus does not spread very easily, or that it is no more dangerous than the common cold. Others may feel their rights are being taken by the quarantine and act against guidelines in protest.

    • @Inamichan
      @Inamichan 4 роки тому +9

      Roseblossom9029 I think that on top of mixed information, the people who are protesting haven’t had anyone they know get it or die from it. If they did they wouldn’t be out endangering people. It’s effecting certain groups of people and not others and so the groups that aren’t being effected (apparently trump supporters) just aren’t listening because it doesn’t effect them 🤷🏾‍♀️

    This is why not only the clinicians but scientists and researchers are also equally essential. If one doctor can treat 10 patients, then 1 scientist can potentially save millions, and if we are to win this fight, a vaccine is absolutely critical.
