Well, considering how long skull and bones is taking, we are in an average hamburger situation, except that the hamburger took 3 hours to cook....and still isnt ready.
Ubisoft made the best pirate game in existence with amazing ship battles and hand-to-hand combat 10 years ago. Cut to 2023, and we have a pirate game from ubisoft missing the charm and hand-to-hand combat entirely, making you feel like a useless pirate without a usable sword.

What puzzles me about how this game turned out is, Ubisoft had the formula. They made the blueprint 10 years ago, how is there no hand to hand combat? It makes no sense.
Looks beautiful when you are at sea, on land looks and plays like a mobile game.
Eh the lighting is pretty bad even when in ship mode. Also the horizon is like 200ft away. Ridiculous.
I think if this launches f2p it will have some potential staying power, but if they try to sell this for $60+ it's gonna bomb HARD...

Honestly if this had ground combat too i would 100% get it. This gameplay doesnt look bad just a lil repetitive. Boarding other ships with your crew wouldve been fun and broke up gameplay
Ive played for almost 2 hours and im having a blast. The graphics are beautiful and lighting looks really good. I love all the fetching materials to build all the ships and items.
The same mate it's getting so boring hearing people say the same ''oh it's not Black Flag 2'' or ''No land combat no likey'' It was only ever supposed to be 100% pure naval game. Now i do believe it should be 40/50 not 70/80 but apart from that the game is good looking and fun to play, and i'll buy playing day 1.
Well done Ubisoft, it took you ten years to make a game based on one half of a game from 2013, that was already out of date in 2013.
@@MasterJangleLeg is a pirate game. Of course people want to board ships and fight on land. I guarantee you at one point they had land combat in there but bc of how long its been in development, they've basically stripped it to the bones. Every mission is going to be the exact same. There won't be any variety. The only other thing you can do is that boring mini game that will get old quick and walk around on land to talk to people to get missions and upgrade your ship. Nobody is saying the ship combat won't be fun. People are just saying that's the only thing the game has. After 10 years of development, let's not act like this game shouldn't have more to it. For what it has, this game could have and should have been released years ago.
@@bryandedon7459 All very fair points but the fact remains is historically speaking piracy lasted about 60 years and it involved majority naval combat so the myth or idea that piracy involved land it did not. The only land based piracy was during the third section of the piracy era for about 10 years roughly in the Caribbean with the French. The bulk of what we know and was sold in movies as piracy was naval and naval only.
I doubt there were actually giant sea monsters either. Or that they harvested wood from their ship. The point of this game is it is a pirate fantasy. It's not a simulator.
I have to say, despite all the controversy and questions surrounding this game during development, this look really good and a lot of fun. I understand the comparison to Black Flag with the naval combat but Black Flag is an Assassin's Creed game first and foremost. So with that being said I find it a little unfair to make that comparison that it doesn't feel or play like Black Flag. Yes it is inspired and probably borrows heavily from Black Flag but it is a pirate SHIP simulator. I say give it a chance.
If you were playing a WW2 dog fighting game would you complain that you can't land your plane, get out and shoot at planes with an AAV?
I played my whole 6 hours yesterday, the game is actually pretty decent if you went in it for the ship combat, I got to the mission where you get to use Scurlocks ship and the combat even at that level is really smooth. The game has no problem with money or resources if you play the game like a pirate and, sink ships like a pirate would do and you wont have a problem at all
There’s more to pirates than just sinking ships my guy…I’d wager to say in the grand scheme of being a pirate, actually sinking a ship isn’t even at the top.

I want the full pirate experience not just sinking ships and looting them. Where are the raids, treasure hunts, expeditions, smuggling, mercenary work, boarding, you know things that require ground combat?
@@declass9481To be fair all of those can be game mechanics or details and are missing. Hell, you can have missions based on those things.
Ubisoft games is like fast food, not bad but not good either.
Cyberpunk and RDR2 perfect NPCs spoiled me. Now I think all other NPCs are clunky.

I enjoyed the hell out of it, not what was advertised and that’s disappointing but I had a lot of fun with the beta
I never understand how UA-cam Creators make these videos and then their audio is at 100% and the game audio is 10% leading to Volume acrobatics of up and down just to get the full video.
This is what a game released to avoid paying back tax cuts in Singapore looks like. Years and years of money and time wasted and a crunched twilight of development purely to shove a product out the door, whatever its shape.
So back to Sid Meiers pirates got it :)
Other than the graphic quality being 15 years newer, I do not see anything in this game that "Pirates of the Burning Sea" hasn't been doing for a decade and 1/2.
Was lucky enough to get a code aswell....wow did this game suck...I personally gave up after the 2nd QuickTime event.
This just makes me want to play a PS5 Black Flag with a few strong updates and updgrades 😅😂

Tbh the game is not "amazing" but its a solid 7.5. I found the beta really fun and wish I could play more than 6 hours of it.
I think Luke mostly just capitalizes on what is popular opinion. He jumps on every hype train and every hate train. Can't blame him, makes good content and easy money.

60$ compared to World of Warships free to play, hmm... I'd rather buy Sea of Thieves & Sid Meier's Pirates & Master and Commander DVD.
Ubisoft is oh so yummy junk food and I'm here for it whatever they make. Maps with tons of stuff to do, fun gameplay, okay story lines and top tier graphics. Great podcast listening games.

This feels like Starfield. Extremely outdated compared to a game that came out a decade ago.
Personally i love this game already the character customization is great overall its great could use a little work like melee combat but other wise i love it so far
They should have actually added combat in the islands & fighting with swords, guns, etc... but thr boat combat looks really fun,but a game that's been in some of the worst gaming development and Even the Shanghai government helped fund the development of this game from what I have heard. Plus I heard there is more than one Build of this game. So, if this beta had flopped than thru would have a different version and test thar water. I could be wrong, but this the rumors I have heard.

Me personally I'd rather play a game co-op then single player I mean why play a game alone when you don't have to?
Because people WANT to play alone, I always prefer to play by myself, whenever I play games like division, DayZ, destiny, or even the shit suicide squad beta or like monster hunter, I play by myself, not everyone likes playing with people, I prefer single player experiences and as a solo player this beta was pretty fun, the only times I ever play with friends is party games which you have to have other people for like gang beasts, smash, mortal combat etc

That's just seems weird to me it's what do y'all not have friends or are y'all all just antisocial I mean I get it I can be pretty antisocial in real life but when playing video games I don't know it's just more fun with more ppl but I'd much rather play with friends then randos. Party games don't really interest me tho it's more co-op style games like Ghost Recon GTAV The Division Suicide Squad Gotham Knights. We need more games like this. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 for instance that game was just begging for co-op the fact it didn't have it is one of the major factors as to why it lost game of the year to some turn-based RPG lol because at least that had co-op. Spider-Man 2 ended up being a very mid experience because it played it incredibly safe and didn't do anything new but if it has fully open world unteatherd co-op with co-op take downs and objectives and the like it really could have pushed the boundaries but nope it was just the same ol same ol.

With games like the division, elden ring, ghost recon, I like to play by myself because I like the feeling that it’s me versus this whole world, versus the entire government of ghost recon trying to kill me, versus all of these bosses in elden ring wanting to kill me, I like getting all the good maxed out shit in the division 2, high SDH level, best gear all by myself with no help, the best way I can describe it is like survival games, you start with nothing and end with everything and you can build or kill anything instantly, I like achieving that on my own, not with friends,
I disagree that Spider-Man 2 should have been coop, if Spider-Man 2 was coop, that means some of the content we have now, in that game, would not have existed and instead would be replaced with online activities, and I would rather it be the complete solo experience, look at destiny for example, I would love to play it, but most of the late game forces coop so I miss out on a lot of content that I could have been playing if it was solo, I think to claim it lost game of the year and it didn’t do anything new just because of no coop is ignorant, the game has a thousand more flaws than that which was never advertised
I just don’t like playing with people unless it’s party games or something like gta 5 where you are forced to play with people if you want to do the 4 person heists, I prefer that solo alone feeling that I need to do everything and everything much harder, I understand what you’re saying, I used to prefer always coop / online when I was younger, but not anymore
It's just preference for what some people find to be fun, it's not that deep.

Skull & Bones never was supposed to be AC Black Flag without the AC lore. It always was supposed to be a stand alone game using the naval combat mechanics from Black Flag. It always meant to be ships fighting other ships.

You’re def complaining too much about foraging, you’re even saying it yourself, you gotta start from nothing and become something, while it can be boring sure it’s just part of the game and how things go. Once you get your next ship things will open up and I’m sure foraging will very much be put on the back burner

It’s not a pirate game. It’s a naval battle game. If people go into it with that understanding they won’t be too disappointed. The people that think it’s a pirate simulator are going to be very upset.
It's still a pirate game. You aren't apart of a navy, and your engage in ship combat to steal shit from people, piracy.
I was lucky to be invited to the beta as well, but I find the game blend and boring very fast.
This game coulda been such an EASY home run and kicked off a new and successful IP for Ubi.....instead they let execs talk them into making essentially a loot box centered ship pirate mobile game.....gross

It was fun for the first segment. The rest of the game is boring as hell. Plus, no swashbuckling? No sword duels? No sword fights at all? No land battles...? Its a naval arcade game with a Pirate skin.

@@Blisterdude123 There were very few pirate women captains but their crews were always 100% male. simple as. To this day they don't use women to maintain ships in and out of combat, so that was definitely also the case during the Golden Age of Piracy/ Golden Age of Sail. There's a reason that a woman on a ship is considered a bad omen, even in some places today, lol
this isnt a simulator we can have freedom to choose who ever we want but i it would have been nice if they gave a choice of who you want to be your first mate
I feel like i have to buy this just to keep ubisofts interest in pirate games so that they actually take Skull and Bones and make it into a PROPER pirate game franchise not whatever live service garbage this is

If this game goes to GamePass then for sure itll garner enough interest to kick off a proper pirate game franchise no????

I already lost interest in this game and this video. No offense to you. It's not your fault. But if you're in a pirate game and you can't board ships but you can play assassin's Creed Odyssey and bored people ships and steal their loot I'm going to go ahead and say that this game is not going to do too well. The whole point of being a pirate is that you bored another person's ship and you still everything they have on board. That's why I see if thieves is so much better.
Why remake 1 when they could just make a second and add to the story..... god i hate modern gaming..

I can see some people who crave a seafaring pirate game, which are few and far between enjoying this but for most of us it'll be a hard pass.
