35:35 The wind literally guides you throughout the whole game. Once you set a destination on the map, the wind starts to flow in that direction. It's very cool.
@@silentassason now watching their reaction I just realized the lady that works for Jin's family says his father is now the wind in his back, so I guess it's more than just a theory.
When Khotun killed the samurai in single blow after setting fire to him with alcohol/Oil, you would think it’s dishonourable but from the Mongols pov what the Samurai did was an insult. The Mongols were still respectful to thier ancestors and thier family, but the importance of family - especially family history - was far less important in Mongol Culture compared to Japanese Culture, in which family is held in the highest of regard. To a Mongol, having a family name or lineage of great significance means nothing if you cannot back it up with strength. So when Lord Adachi listed off his families ancestor when introducing himself and then demanding a duel, the Mongols viewed it as an insulting gesture as he was living off his families lineage instead of his own personal talents and deeds. In thier eyes he was a weak man who could not stand on his own two feet and instead had to rely on his families name. It was essentially the equivalent of a nobody or a peasent demanding to fight a lord. In the opposite of this, when Jin confronts Khotun on the bridge, the Khan gladly accepts his challenge as Jin has earned the right to a duel because of the hardship he has overcome to reach him. He has PROVEN his worth as a fighter and a survivor, unlike Lord Adachi who demanded it.
Not only that but by the time the mongols arrive in tsushima the hope for peace were well over. The Japanese disrespected the khan twice and they mongols were not going to let that slide.
@@prakhar0209 different context. Khotun Khan wasn’t using his relatives name to demand anything, he was just introducing himself so the Samurai knew just who they were dealing with - not some minor Mongol warlord. At no point in the entire game does Khotun ever use Kublai or Genghis’s name to demand anything of anyone. Khotun wants desperately to carve a place in history that is his and his alone, and not associated with his family. He even says as much to Jin later on “why should we live in their shadows when we deserve to be legends?” The invasion of Tsushima (in the game at least) was all Khotun’s idea - the army was his, the war machines, tactics, strategy and knowledge were all his. He even says so himself that he spent a long while preparing for the invasion not just through military means, but also learning Japanese culture, traditions, everything about them. He didn’t underestimate his opponents, in fact he had a lot of respect for Lord Shimura even in the way he held him captive afterwards - treating him like an honoured guest rather than a prisoner.
@@silentassasonFolklore in general has many of those weird moments, the problem is America (and i don't just mean the US) is quite disconnected to a high percentage of their traditions, meanwhile Japan was still a feudal system very close to its roots as late as the end of the 19th century. The only flagrant historical liberty, and perhaps missed opportunity, is that Katanas did not exist back then. They were in fact invented as a result of this specific invasion by the Mongols in order to deal with their superior armors and more rigorous usage. They took a lot of historical liberties with this game, but at least they are aware of it and gave proper reasons why they decided to go with anachronistic designs. The armors are wrong for the period, the weapons are wrong for the period, the Mongols have fantasy-like weapons sometimes, and the Samurai are portrayed as fools who would never win a war because they refuse to take obvious strategic advantages, when in real life they were brutal, backstabbing, cutthroat killers, who used the power of intimidation quite a bit, especially before the Edo Jidai. They definitely took liberties with Jin as a protagonist figure. Khotun Khan is also not real. They didn't use real people for the story because the developers asked real Japanese historians and experts and they claimed it may be culturally insensitive. Therefore they made up the protagonists and antagonists, and created a dramatized fiction of a true event. In the game clan Sakai is wiped from the records by the Shogun after Jin was sentenced to death for turning his back on the samurai ways, so that may connect to real life events that Sakai is re-established as a legitimate clan in the 14th century. They didn't have the woke-itch to turn an actual existing person into a modern political statement. Besides they wrote a fantastic story without trying to farm woke points, this is why Ghost of Tsushima was such a success.
Kristen’s yawn hiding expressions are evolving 😂
