On 5 May 1945 the population of Pilsen rose up against the Nazi occupation. Citizens entered the streets and began to tear down Nazi symbols. German forces reacted by besieging the city in an attempt to suppress the uprising. The civilian population of Pilsen desperately needed American forces to arrive as soon as possible. Early in the morning of 6 May American tanks from the 16th Armoured division set out for Pilsen, reaching the city around 08.00 hours. The first unit into town was Combat Command B led by Colonel Charles Noble. The American forces encountered sporadic resistance from German soldiers and were shot at from the tower of the cathedral. It soon, however, became apparent that further fighting was futile and the German commander, General von Majewski decided to surrender. Around 14.15 hours General von Majewski signed the capitulation ordering is troops to put up no further resistance. Afterwards he committed suicide before the eyes of his staff and wife. The 16th Armored Division was followed by the 2nd Infantry Division and the 17th Belgian Fusilier Battalion which included 700 volunteers who had joined the U.S. Army after the liberation of Liege. There are several monuments in the city of Pilsen commemorating the Allied forces that took part in the liberation of the city.
Thank you very much for the realistic images of a very tragic, brutal time.
The fact that Patton ignored orders to stop at the original Czech border is celebrated every year in Pilsen. Once the Soviet domination of Czechoslovakia the residents erected monuments to both Patton and his Army in the middle of Pilsen and started the tradition of having an American style VE day parade, complete with US Amy vehicles and uniforms. Patton saved Pilsen from the immediate rape and pillage that Prague endured. He was eventually forced to move back to Germany and the Soviets took over, but the worst of the Soviet rampage was over.
...that did not avoided that the natural inhabitants of Pilsen, Germans, were outrageously expelled to Germany, a clear ethnical cleansing that the Allies, the western ones, scandalously cooperated and agreed.

You Tube has been deleting my comments... however, the truth will out. The pendulum is beginning to swing in the right direction!
Not long after this, some Czechs committed atrocities against their own citizens who were of German descent. These acts of criminal brutality were as vicious as anything the SS and Wehrmacht had done.
I wonder if that's behind the predicament of the young women filmed here.
oh, how surpising, i wonder why would they do that to them and what happened before....
Well you know what they say about payback it’s a mf
@@ralphe5842Payback for what???
I thought the atrocities were against Czech collaborators.
From 10:43 to 12:04 ROA units. Note that these soldiers have weapons. The Czechs did not arm these units, they considered them allies. The ROA helped the insurgents in the Prague uprising in the fight against the fascists.
Impossible. There was no Italian army occupying Prague in 1944-1945. Therefore, there was no fascists. I think you mean national *sozialists* from some german workers' party.
@@julioalbertoherrera1339 When they say fascists in my country, it means Germany.
I cannot help but feel sorry for these young men and children caught up in this horrible war. Many if not most seem like good men. Soon they will be our allies and, more importantly, our friends.
Thank you, most well said and a beautiful outlook.
@@stephenhowes8937 Agreed! Your comment was nice as well!
Just little boys, some of them
smaller brains. easier to talk into defending the land of other men. (absent).
They're children.
Does anyone have any info on the Lost German Girl filmed from Haglund?
curious that the cameraman focused on several men walking without shoes. not really the "money" shot that you usually see.
I recommend watching at 1.25 playback speed for the best experience.
Then the Chechs had to endure the Soviet Union
Still did not wake up from this nightmare
In some way it´s a little nice to see rather happy faces, youths that survived the war and were going to meet a better future.
Many of these soldiers would never go home. Things are not as they appear in the film... many of them were executed or starved to death in the prison camps.
@@Jezza-m5k At least they had statistsically a better chance of survival than if the Hitler-regime and the war had gone on for longer. So still many young Germans were saved by the surrender, even if some died.
@@svenerikjohansson8130 How many Germans died in Russian captivity, How many were murdered and executed after the surrender. How many Germans died in the American prison camps? The killing continued long after the cessation of hostilities!

Then many of these soldiers starved to death in POW concentration camps. Hundreds of thousands of German civilians were murdered and raped during the deportation from their homes. From Czechoslovakia 3.5 million Germans were driven from their homes and the Bohemian nation lost its soul.
And in 2024 we're arguing about how many genders there are.
Nicht in Gaza. There the problems are different.
What does that have to do with anything?
@@davedalton1273 This has to do with the fact that people of today who don't have any problems make problems for themselves with gendering and shit like that ....
No we're not. Conservatives are freaking out because some people don't want to torture people who have a medical condition. Conservatives are cruel, dishonest people who need someone to blame their unjustified fears on, and, currently, their preferred victims are people with gender dysphoria and the people who want to help them.
Be thankful that’s all we have to argue about.
Plzen to the German border about 75km. About a two day march, three tops.
Propably not many of them survived the bloody summer 1945 if they were not taken prisoners by the US

I doubt those soldiers saw any combat, their uniforms were so clean
They switch (or change) their uniforms before surrendering!
WHAT???????????????? ARE YOU BLIND???
Omg just boys
Круто!
I bet all those soldiers are glad the war is over..except for the hardcore Nazi's. Did They ever identify this woman? 12:14
She would be identified as Lore Bauer, a young German girl who had been assigned as a Luftwaffenhelferin to operate anti-aircraft guns, as Germany was experiencing massive losses of male soldiers.
Stationed in Czechoslovakia when the war ended, she and her other german and austrian female were brutally beaten and raped.
When she ran into an American unit on the road, you can see her bury her face into a small notebook. It turns out that she had hidden about 100 Czech crowns (currency) which she did not realize was worthless at the end of the conflict.
She flashed the currency to bribe the soldiers into allowing her to pass. To let her know that the unit was American, cameraman Haglund handed her a US penny.
Over time she made her way back to Germany and married after the war. She gave birth to two children, and it was her granddaughter, Emi, who would visit Haglund’s grave in San Bernardino, California and leave a penny-the very same penny given to her grandmother in 1945-on his headstone.
