The uncut WotC sheet is pretty iconic, mainly since it was a test production with the magic logo on the back of an English pokemon card. What's crazy is how the bid reached $400k, like that's just astronomical. Can't imagine the prices next anniversary, 2026 i think for 30th year

it's basically the pin point time in which the west first got pokemon cards and a whole era shifted.

Assuming new generations don't get into Pokemon, Pokemon will peak when the generations that grew up with it enter retirement age and want to relive their youth. 50-60 years from now, when Millenials and Zoomers begin to die off, the value of Pokemon cards will begin to drop.
idk maybe its because I grew up poor but I couldnt imagine being more than 10 dollars for one card no matter how rare it is. if I want something that bad ill just print one out and glue it to the face of a "cheap" card, spending more than 5 bands though seems outrageous

These things have history, that history has value to the community it influences, it may not be valuable to you, but to others it is. Just printing out a valuable card and slapping it on a piece of cardboard is worthless on its own, has no history. You could add history for example, if Joe Biden did it, you bet people would pay more than 5 bucks for it, because it has more history.

@@waybladesnot at all. Shoes jewelry and other cosmetics have major differences as you go up im price point, all Pokémon cards are just cardboard. Unless the more expensive ones are made out of titanium or something you can definitely think that way about cards and nothing else.
@@ojasgadre2272 I agree with this sentiment. Most luxury goods are exactly that, luxury. Made from genuine materials, and typically built better than cheaper alternatives. Whereas cards are literally always just cards, unless we include the metal prints that some Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon championship cards were as trophies.

Tbh the card is pretty average looking lol. No holo, no cool print logos, really nothing. I get that there are more bugatti Chirons in the world than some of those cards, so the rarity is the only apealliing thing.
@@OttonFilms tropical mega battle,university magikarp,art academy promos,etc. the rarity of these cards makes them that in itself. Cards don’t need to have a holo or a swirl or a stamp to be worth insane amounts of money. Alpha black lotus is a prime example. It’s not about how great or expensive the cards looks,it’s how the card was made, acquired, and distributed. Granted, that’s not the same all across the board, but these cards definitely deserve their place as some of the rarest, elusive, and expensive cards.
my moms friend is the son of the guy who was the top person for US Pokémon cards and in mid 2000s we went to his mansion of a house. he had a ton of unopened Pokémon boxes which filled a whole closet and just gave me 3 of them. they were boxes filled with like 50 Pokémon card packets each. i remember getting home and opening them all in my room and my whole floor covered in wrappers. a few years later my cat peed on my whole Pokémon collection and ruined all the cards except for a single dragonite card which was on my shelf. nowadays the only pokemon card i have is a signed one from xQc that came with the juicer merch.

Saying that Pokémon has already peaked is INSANE. I was 12 years old going to PACKED Burger King’s for Pokémon trading night (once a week) in 1999! Mizkif and xqc were like 4 years old and they think “they were the peak”?! I can guarantee that there will be another cycle where Pokemon pops off even crazier than the time before. Nobody ever wants to buy in a slump, but that’s where REAL collectors find value. Pokemon will still be around long after we’re dead.
And people say fine art is overpriced lol. At least a painting is a unique handmade object. They could print 100,000 copies of the rarest pokemon card tomorrow.
the point is, the Pokemon company is aware of the value of the cards, and reprints will NEVER be as valuable as the original print, because there will always be differences. Basically every card company does this with their rares, like the reprints of the Power 9 with MTG
