I am a dentist of 17 years and practice owner. I am really enjoying your take on dental school, you seem to be enjoying yourself and having fun. Don't lose your positive attitude! You make dental school seem appealing. I hated every minute of dental school so it makes me smile when I watch your vlogs. Getting experience in a private practice as an assistant or observer is an invaluable experience, even a must in my opinion. Practice writing upside down in a mirror, this will help when it comes to coordination when operating on upper teeth using your mirror to see.
What made you pursue dentistry if you hated dental school?

Dry the tissue, leave topical on for a good 5 minutes. Go slow, warm up LA under warm water prior to injection. Will at least make infiltration shots almost painless.
I can’t believe how calm you were. Just the thought of having needles in my mouth fills me with dread! Not to mention a student who has never done it before 😂

LauraSmiles I had this way in the back injection yesterday and I was not as calm as you are 😂 (but it actually didn’t hurt much during, which surprised me) I’m in so much pain today just from the injection, not the work at all, I can barely eat! But, watching your videos has helped my dentist phobia/anxiety! :)

Have you ever heard of wiggling the cheek/lip when giving LA? It really takes the pain away completely! The vibration signals reach your brain before the pain signals! Also using topical on the tissues beforehand :)

good question! i've been lucky to find a really great group of friends that i love hanging out in and out of school with! everyone in my class has made friends!
Aww you seem so nice. The guy is cute with you, too lol. I have absolute zero interest in dentistry but I like you so I subbed 😁. When I had to have two cavities filled about a year ago.. He did the drilling too quickly after the shot. And I felt it all 😭 so just know for. Some people the numbing is truly delayed lol just a tip lol

Yay new upload! Missed your videos but it looks like you've been up to some really cool things! I start school next week and am very excited/nervous. Any tips for connecting with other students during D1 and making effective study groups?
Also, I'm highly considering getting braces once school starts (for the discount). My family could not afford them while I grew up and even though my teeth are relatively straight, I do have some crooked ones and some misalignment that I'dlike to get fixed. Do you think getting braces while in school is a good idea or waiting until after? Did any students in your class get them when starting school?
I would say try to scope out other students who have similar study styles as you do!
And yes, there are a couple students in my class who got braces when we started school! I'd suggest getting them in school so you'll have nicer teeth when you're a dentist!

Hi laura! Thanks so much for putting this video up with Q and As. I am a predent. Curious, did you have the opportunity to practice in a dental simulation lab before practicing with your fellow classmates? I feel like that could really help with increasing confidence of anxious D2s.
We didn't do that but some other schools might!

hey sis i have a question. dentistry is my 2nd career choice. entertainment is the 1st. Idk if I should go with entertainment or dentistry (ik they're worlds a part). Did you have any other dreams before deciding to go to dental school?
Its such a hard choice because I'd basically be sacrificing most of my 20s to become a dentist. thanks for reading.
lilmrscutsie Why not do both? There are actually a lot of actors and actresses that are real life doctors. They do entertainment on the side and some just eventually took on entertainment as their main career. Look at it as always having something to fall back on.
i honestly can't see myself doing anything else! my best advice is to explore each career more and see which one you can really see yourself enjoying for the rest of you life

dhay awadh For virtually all dental schools, having attained a bachelor’s degree by the time Dental school begins is a requirement.
I know one person who got into dental school without his BA because he applied very early and finished all his pre-reqs!
What type of dentist are you in school to be?
Omg 3rd quarter Hygiene school we started “anesthesia Tuesdays”. Up to 5 injections on each other in one sitting. PSA is still the worst.
Haha palatal was the worst for me
LauraSmiles that was the consensus for most of my classmates I think too. But maybe since I assisted in perio, I saw palatals every day so I just knew as long as I put as much pressure as I could it would be ok.
Does having a bds degree give an advantage there while studying with all sorts of stuffs?......as i am in Bd and they give u a bds degree when u pass.....not dds or dmd....😅

How did you get involved with Asda?
the ASDA leaders at my school put on a lot of events for D1's and I wanted to be part of it! Then I learned about the national ASDA positions and wanted to be a video production manager !
