With innocent face, polite attitude, no need to wear earrings or tattoos. what I see from xiao zhan is a man with extraordinary manners. Has a beautiful voice, charming acting skills, always being humble. How easy to love him.
He was never noticed before, nor long after he was noticed, he was accused of something he didn’t even do. Exactly, the same as Wei Wuxian. He was innocent but was accused. People need to leave Xiao Zhan alone. This wasn't his fault, even if he did speak up it might have done more harm then good. I believe it was wise of him to remain silent until things blow over and people are less rash and more calm then maybe address it. I'm sure you are familiar with the stars of the Supernatural series in the States, who get this sort of thing, all the damn time and have for years now. I have been reading ffs for more than 10 years now (manly Harry Potter, I do not like reading stories about real people, but I don't hate anybody if they do), and I love, how creativ some people can be with another universe (harry potter, star trek, lord of the rings...).
I think it is rididulous to blame XZ for this mess, but also not fair to blame Ao3. Fanfiction have been around since the 60th/70th, where fanculture started (manly with star trek). Blame the people, who reported this whole thing and blew it out of proportion! Blame the chinese goverment, for jumping at the chance to ban Ao3! Blame the stupid writers and "fans", who blame XZ, whithout thinking who really is to blame! (sry English is not my 1st language)

It's almost been a year and I still don't understand what was Xiao Zhan's freaking fault in all this mess. He is just a pure, innocent soul who was doing his job. And this is what he gets in return? I don't care who did this. Fans? Anti fans? Haters? Or just normal people. I don't care. The one thing I do care is that Xiao Zhan is suffering because of the things he never did. Did he block the AO3? No. Did he tell his fans to report it? No. Did he encourage the author to sexualize him in social platforms? No. Then why does he have to suffer. This incident almost caused his whole career. U should never mess with someone's career. His years of hardwork, hardships and this is what he gets. I've loved Xiao Zhan from the moment I've set my eyes on The Untamed. Such a talented actor, beautiful singer, amazing human. I dont understand why he has to apologize for a mistake he has no part in. I understand the fact that fans and their behaviours affect celebrities a lot, but that doesn't mean he has to take responsibility for each fan's behavior. I agree with the fact that he must have spoken out, but just thinking of the way people digging up every action and every word of his from the past and giving twisted meanings to it, if I was in his place I wouldnt have addressed this issue either in fear of those "very righteous and perfect people" who are very talented in criticizing others. Giving 1 star to the dramas he starred in, what a inconsiderate move, just thinking about all the hard work they had to put into making those dramas, it makes me really upset. Also, what his "so called fans" did was totally wrong, with stardom comes fanfics, I think it not wrong as long as the celebs themselves do not feel affected by it as fanfics are just stories and are not in any way related to the real them. But I think it's totally wrong for everyone to lash out on xiao zhan when he played no part in this mess. Call out to the people responsible for this and teach them a lesson. Do not act immorally and accuse Xiao Zhan, because you doing this does not make you any different from those people who reported the website. Also no one is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes, so to those people who are trying to pull themselves up acting all righteous by trying to frame Xiao Zhan as a wrongdoer, you are just like him, a human being, put yourself in his shoes and imagine what would happen if everyone tries to put twisted meaning into all your words and actions and reveal it to every body else. I absolutely dont know how fan's attitude is the actor's responsibility. Hey people, please open your eyes here! Do the actor or fan base have to select it one by one? And do the actor have to bully his fan back? Every people have a freedom of speech, and it's absolutely his/her responsibility alone. If he/she claim that his/her speech was on behalf of a fan base or the actor himself, he/she should have a proof that he/she have their consent. Why they have to force him to do something he is not responsible of? I know why he is quiet this whole time. Coz, 1. He is not responsible for one's behaviour, if the one's his/herself doesnt come up to give some explanation or apology (In the eye of law, others plea doesnt count), 2. Is Xiao Zhan psychic?? How the hell he knows about how every of his fans way of thinking so he can explain for them and take the responsibility himself (he's not a lawyer nor he have that fans consent to explain his/herself.), 3. In many of the interview he had, he clearly mention that everyone have their own responsibility and choice and he clearly responsible himself.

I completely agree. The thing about Chinese idol culture that I’ve heard tho is that lots of people say that fans are the sole “caretakers” of the idols. What I mean is like they are the ones that bring the idol stardom and support them that makes them so famous so whatever the fans do is what the idol is which I think is realllyyy stupid. I can’t really explain it well but the mindset of how they view themselves as the people that can single handledly bring up or down idols is very bad and has it’s affects like what happened in this controversy. I really hope fans can grow up and not put all the blame on an idol like that, makes me so sad ;(((
fan's attitude is not the actor's responsibility but at least he should step out and say something (I mean very explicitly indicate his fans' fault and tell them not to do that again.) uh, thats not the issue here. it's true that the fanfiction was frickin weird and offensive, and fans have every right to stand up for xiaozhan, but the problem is that they reported the ENTIRE SITE of ao3. This hurt tens of thousands of other Chinese eople that participate in other fandoms, be it kpop or anime or whatever.
Point is, why the fuck do you have to drag the entire site down just for a single fanfic.

But fans largely represent the idol, and the idol needs to guide the fans correctly so that they dont do stupid shit. At the very least, Xiao Zhan should've spoken out about what his fans are doing, because HE is the only one that they will listen to, because HE is the reason why they are doing this in the first place.
At the end, he gave an apology two whole months after the actual issue. Why not before? Because he's scared of angering the fans that are supposedly "fighting for their dear idol as they report one site after the next", because that's where he gets his money from and in turn pays rent and feeds himself with.

That accident was ridiculous. The cyberbullyng they did during the last few months and the fake news was too much. I am very surprised by the lack of empathy and the courage to show how cruel these people can be. It seems to me that in China the internet has become a lawless land. Unfortunate.

When I have voted in voting polls for Xiao Zhan it has been kind of mind blowing but also cool and heartwarming because in one poll alone he had fans from over 50 countries voting for him (some countries I had never even heard of!) and there were a super big brisk demographic of people, which I think is kind of unusual. He had both females and males and people ranging from teens to grandparents with college students, young professionals, entrepreneurs, management executives, mothers, fathers, grandpas and grandmas. With professionals ranging from doctors, nurses, chefs, teachers, bankers, accountants, musicians, hair stylists, hotel managers, bus drivers, florists, sports players, gamers, retail workers....so many people all his fans! The other thing I noticed was that even though some of the other people in the voting poll who he was up against had some comments, only Xiao Zhan had tons of fans took the time to share how much they loved him, what they loved best about him, how they came across him for the first time and in what show or listening to what song. Everyone was equaling bothered by that bizarre Ao3 incident but more so over the multiple negative propaganda attacks he had to withstand over and over again and how unfair it was. Each one of them was nothing but fabricated lies and half truths twisted to create a web of unrelated facts to put with dome trigger propaganda heading with his name on it yo get an emotional response and divert people from realizing there was no logic behind what they were saying and flimsy sketchy facts. I researched each one of them and have done so dunce on everyone I've seen to backtrack them to the true details that are easy to find. They blatantly use photoshopped altered things that you can easily go back and find the real one on. Unfortunately they are using cybercrime tools of the trade and posting things with faked accounts and user names or those they've hacked and frozen the owners out of and using scrubbing techniques to delete comments that argue the details or show support for Xiao Zhan and if you create a video to show how they've altered details the scrub your video from the Internet. They really picked up speed in creating these negative propaganda campaigns after he won all of the awards in December and January including for Wuji being number one song of the year and his name having the highest buying power for his brands he was the spokesperson for. These negative propaganda are bring created by PAID ANTI FANs who are then riling up the ANTI FANs for other celebrities who believe Xiao Zhan is getting to much if the pie and it's not only effecting their career but also allowing him to much attention that they don't believe he deserves as a new actor with no dance or acting education and only a choral class in college for music. It's all them being jealous vindictive and spitefull and wanting to hurt him and pull him down from his position of number 1 so he is seoerstely from his high number of views, likes, fans, sponsors, projects and studio events he was constantly invited to sync made the focus of. Hush enemy's also include the other networks whose advertisers and sponsors flocked to the other networks when Xiao Zhan was on them because anything ge was on hot higher views. So there really is still even now people continually trying to spin negative stuff about him across the Internet. Also these jerks went into Dounan, a rating system in China and have tried to rate all of the shows he's in or are coming out down using these ANTI FANs who are in a way it seems no more than mindless sheep being used by the people behind this concerted campaign. It's really incideous and malicious but also in most countries would be considered illegal. Apparently China just doesn't gave a strong arm to deal with this kind of activity or the laws to prosecute it. Even though the Untamed had the highest number of votes in history and one of the highest scores now they have manipulated it to where it's dropped severely in its rating and we know it's not based on facts because the Untamed hasn't changed and I'm REWATCHING it now Abu it's just as good! Douban is run by an AI that apparently be manipulated by cyber criminals and hacking. Some of Xiao Zhans shows they've dropped all the way foehn yo a one. I can't even imagine how Xiao Zhan desks with all of this harassment but I do feel he is super commuted to his career, he is super tenacious, strong, resilient and I'm hoping he just keeps on forging against it and putting himself out there. I pray that there are people out there who see thru this web of lies these people keep painting the internat with and that they get done common sense and use logic in thus bizarre stuff they come up with and do what I did, research the story and find out the truth. It's horrible how people in do many cases have become weak minded and they just take in things they see on the internet like its news or facts. Used to it was said that History was written by the winners and you only have to compare textbooks from any subject, that are each ten years apart, to see that what is considered facts, truths or seen as relavent one year, changes over time. Now however anyone can write something on the Internet and suddenly it's trending and is taken as truth even if there's no actual fact in it or what is there is an easily proven lie. I disturbs me how easily people can be manipulated online but also I hate that there are these people who are intent on hurting Xiao Zhan and his career using these tactics. I was invited to REWATCH the Untamed on the 17th and have been binge watching it again, along with many others. Some are even using the Netflix PARTY app to REWATCH it as a group and inviting friends to watch who haven't seen it yet. (1) Legal platforms, as well as a CCTV-12 news report (Legal & Society channel) confirmed XZ fans did NOT report AO3 platform to the government but only reported the defamatory porno AO3 fanfic, "The Fall", to Weibo.
(2) Expectations in China that an idol controls fans is irrational and outdated. An idol cannot reasonably be expected to control millions of fans. Moreover, XZ knew nothing about the reporting and he has always told fans to be rational in pursuit of idols. XZ is correct in saying he has an equal relationship with his fandom.
(3) Although USA AO3 escaped the 2019 purge, the Government stated in December 2019 that, under its new consolidated media policy, “Provisions on the Governance of the Online Information Content Ecosystem”, it would, from 01 March 2020, target negative content; this includes gossip, anything with “sexual innuendo” or that is “readily associated with sex,” gore or horror, or things that would push minors towards behaviors that are unsafe or “violate social mores.”
(4) The blame lies squarely on the AO3 "The Fall" author who, against Weibo policy, posted links to her porno fanfic on Weibo - rather unwisely since it was known a censorship crackdown would occur from 1st March 2020.
(5) The government already jailed a female author for writing same sex fan fiction.
(6) The XZ fans who unwisely reported the porno RP (Real Person) fanfic did so because the fanfic was defamatory under the law. They were stupid not to consult XZ or XZ Studio first.
(7) Sympathy should be expressed for the suffering caused to Xiao Zhan and his family.
(8) Information has surfaced about monetised Weibo slander accounts, antis/haters accounts and fake-XZ-fans getting into the cyberbullying mix after interfering XZ fans reported the porno fanfic to Weibo.
(9) XZ Studio is, under criminal law, sueing Weibo users who slandered and continue to slander XZ and thus adversely affected his career.
(10) Over 3 million 'Boycott XZ' Weibo messages were posted in the vicious 227/AO3 campaign. If such massive public cyberbullying occurred in the USA, the FBI could get involved.
(11) AO3 China users never lost access to USA AO3 which remained accessible by mirror sites and VPNs. Although VPNs are banned in China, their use is widespread.
(12) The AO3/227 cyberbullying campaign against XZ has shown up the toxicity of Chinese fandom which apparently has too many irrational, immature fans who could do with professional counselling in how to be decent human beings rather than hatemongering on social media.
(13) The AO3/227 cyberbullying campaign stuck up for the right to 'creative freedom' to write porno RP fanfics yet ignored Xiao Zhan's lawful right not to have his good name and repute defamed by unsavoury AO3 RP fanfiction.

The ending of your statements are making me cry a little. I've been flowing Xiao for the better part of a year now, through his singing career first, and now, through his appearance in the Untamed. I watched him too, on Sing My Song, with an older, female, singer - forgive me but I forget her name at the moment - and they were by far, my favourite pairing out of the lot. Super, super, adorable together. Everything Xiao seems to do, seems to show him as a super cute, highly delightful, guy. The Untamed is the first Boy Love story/drama I have ever, seen and I absolutely, adored both of these guys in this show. I fell for Wang's character, whole heartedly and completely. So hope he is supporting his Brother at this time.
Using a show from outside of China as another example/comparison; I'm sure fans Supernatural will know that this sort of thing has been going on concerning the two leads there, forever. You can go online and see tons of extremely, intimate stuff with their images attached, some highly, pornographic in nature. I'd be surprised if these guys don't know about this. And yet, there is nothing to indicate that these guys are nothing more than friends, at best. They don't even, concern themselves with it, and laugh it off for the most part.
So, as an International Fan of this Dear, Sweet, Young Man, I would suggest the best thing for him to do is to laugh it off and forget about it, as it pretty much, comes with the territory. I personally, would not turn on him if he wanted to pursue this, but their images are sort of, public property now, where members of the general public can do almost, whatever they want with. Part of the territory as well, for the most part. Unless it were something connected with hate propaganda or something, then yes, I'd fight that too, as it really, could have serious implications for me, if my fans did not know any better.

It's really too complicated to explain, but I firmly believed it's a plot to destroy XZ's career from competitors, which include WYB's agency, co actor of Untamed. It happened in 2020 for about a year. XZ luckily came back and is even more popular, which was like a magic. Search XZ's red sea, which was the first event he came back. It was a very touching moment. There is sooooo much to learn about him and his story.
