The CHP received a report of a wrong-way driver on the southbound I-5 from Via De San Ysidro Blvd.
In this video, you hear my report of what was going on as the CHP was attempting to slow people down as they had no clue what was coming at them.
People would not slow down and the CHP officer was having a hard time getting people to cooperate. The driver eventually got off the freeway at Coronado Ave and pull into the ARCO station and pulled on the wrong side of the pump.
The CHP determined that she was not DUI, just stupid, and had to let her go. I see a lot of stupidity every day, but people have got to learn to listen and obey, the CHP may have saved a life tonight.
Someone called her on her cell and said " be careful theres someone going the wrong way on the highway". She replied " the're all going the wrong way."

Looking at the temporary dealer plates. Maybe her previous car had the fuel door on the driver's side. There's a little arrow near the fuel gauge that says what side the fuel door is on.

@@SagebrushRambles while I do agree that is the least important part in this video, it is still annoying because most pumps do not have retractable hoses like Costco does, and idiots still try and force it to reach. Most people don't even know that when you do force the pump that way It can actually damage the inside of the hose.

I agree it’s so hard to understand how you drive down the off-ramp and merge onto a freeway and have the median wall be on your right hand side. The median should always be on your left.
My only attempt at justifying this is that San Diego is a city where nearly every chore or errand you make, you drive on the freeway. So there are an insane amount of freeway on ramps and off ramps every few miles throughout the entire city. Many are set up one way but then flipped the opposite way on the next exit up.
So, you get in this rhythm of making a right hand turn to enter the 5 freeway where you live, but down the road, the entrance and exit are opposite. You kind of have to be paying attention.
But, I’ve never ever made a mistake a driven the wrong way.

That’s not uncommon. Just go to any Costco that sells gas. They designed their stations to allow a middle lane between pump islands so vehicles waiting can go to the front pump if it becomes available. Time after time people will stretch the hose to that side and stand in that lane while filling their cars from the wrong side.
@ Ed Brown ya but that’s Costco, their pumps are designed to go longer than normal gas stations, but no the ones at most arcos. Besides there was literally no one else at the station so she could have easily went to the correct pump
Do you know that most of the time the left side fillup line is the longest line at gas staions, Costco and Sams. So instead of waiting in line for 10 minutes I fill up using the right side.

You have the right idea. That is exactly what I do to get through a crowded pathways, like at the malls or airports. You'd have a hard time getting pass people walking in a file especially those form by extra wide ones as they are not aware someone in a hurry behind them. But when you walk against the flow they can see you that you mean business and get out of your way to let you pass. But that is walking or running. Probably not such bright idea to use driving.

I’ve noticed we’ve had so many wrong way driver incidences in the past couple months. I don’t understand why it’s becoming a common occurrence, but after the two officers and the wrong way driver died, I have no tolerance for it

What's great about your channel is the description you have in every video. It perfectly explains what has happened. Almost no other channels or people posting put any description in with the video and if they do it is something like " fight at the park " which is obvious when it's a video of a fight at a park. I drive a commercial vehicle in San Diego every day and the level of stupidity in driver's is astonishing. I see it everyday as a truck driver you don't just have to look out for your truck, your load but also for the other drivers paying no attention.
I can only sympathise. Stay strong. It's only time before you get taken out. I was nearly killed a few times. I had to leave that shit hole.

ARCO fuel dispensary hoses are designed to reach both sides of the vehicle. Unless the station has specific one way signs (usually due to traffic constrictions for getting in and out of the station lot) there is no "wrong" way to pull up. This is the business I am in just a heads up lol. I went back and reviewed the video and that particular station has no one way lane markings so she can pull in whatever way she wants and no it doesn't matter what side the gas tank opening is on.

Yes. Everyone forgets or just too young to know that before self-service, gas pump hoses were long enough to reach far but then again a large percentage of cars were filled in the rear of the vehicle

Honolulu have had a bunch of people driving on the wrong side of the freeway, but i am not sure if the police use these tactics to warn drivers to slow down on the freeway. CHP definitely saved a bunch of lives, that is a fact!
Why are the plates and registration the white Mercedes (BS40P40) expired (they are Nov 2019)? And this was a recent incident?
That's a temporary plate because it's a new car.

I do try really hard to respond in like (for example your use of "look around"), but sometimes I know I, too, go too far. So my apologies, too, if I overstepped. I was aware of the "new" temp plate (from the white number on a red square placard (piece of paper), that as I understood was the number of the month the temp registration expired). Part of this situation for me was the fact we have seen a rise of "wrong way drivers" and it really, really upsets me these officers appeared derelict in their duties (or perhaps they have to see the offense themselves first hand) for not issuing a multitude of infractions and moving violations. This to me is completely unacceptable.
Thank you for researching these new temp plates. The research I had done did not align with the person that commented the temp plates issued have a pattern of 2 letters, 2 digits, 1 letter, 2 digits.
Lastly (a couple of thoughts) - 1) thank you for your photojournalism work, 2) I have a 20" iMac (El Capitan 10.11.6) and am limited in editing software. I am curious what you use.....

3 years ago a chick from the kingdom hall that I used to attend caused an accident. She took antidepressant pills and unfortunately caused her to hit a man on a bike. In my opinion it was very stupid and irresponsible to of her to ignore the warning label on pill bottles.

WOW! Sadly there are lots of reasons this happens. My sweet uncle did this but not on a major freeway like this. It was a 4 lane highway. He had dementia and at that time it was moving into later stages. We all thank the Lord it ended well.

Most drivers don't even know what any of those warning lights on their dash mean. If they don't say or ignore a big Wrong way sign on the road, they most likely will not see or will ignore the warning in their vehicle.

I’m thinking the cops for not arresting her for being a danger to herself and others for drivers the wrong way on the freeway, then get a warrant to take a blood draw and see what meds she’s on, probably at least marijuana.

I accidentally went the wrong way and not on a freeway, I was following my dumb Gps and I went wrong way, i ended up with a $1200 ticket! Thankfully that night it was late, no cars at first but when i did see cars there was 3 coming at me head on and 1 was a police officer, i was so thankful they was there...but that ticket was no fun! @@911VideoNews I actually saw a guy enter the 94 off-ramp off of Euclid right after they opened it. I laid on the horn through his entire turn. He finally realized what I was trying to tell him as he entered the straightaway. He turned around, rolled down his window and laughed.

Last time I was in San Diego, this same thing happened. The morning we were on our way to the airport to go home, someone trying to flee the police on the wrong side of the freeway, caused a massive accident where multiple people were killed. This stoopid lady was extremely lucky that she didn’t kill anyone! I hope she got a massive fine.

A few week ago a wrong way driver 9n the same stretch of freeway collided head on with a car killing 2 detectives and afterwards they even installed a big flashing and I mean flashing with blinking lights and all on the SB off ramp so people would not get on it again and that's what this lady probably did

I’ve taken many road trips across the boarder and down thru Baja. There’s plenty of drivers from down there that never follow the roads laws and drive in the wrong direction by choice. In her case I don’t think she’s that stupid, more like the smartest drunk.
