    I have a Paiste 404 crash 16" (1986). The series 2002 is the best B8 in history.

I think the black label cymbals are generally thinner than later red labels. My black 24" ride weighs 3480grams and my red label 24" ride is 4001grams. My 1974 15" SE black label hats are 1135/1134grams top/bottom while my red label SE hats are 1265/1272grams. All my black crashes weigh between 50 and 150grams less than the same size reds I have. Just my observations and measurements from owning over 30 black labels and 20 red label 2002's.

Yeah the black labels were all lighter, at least for the rides. The ride weights are all similar to the modern 900s

Thanks, very informative - maybe to use some sort of reducing/suppressing the plosive syllables like windscreen, pop filter, DAWs deesser etc. in order
to improve intelligibility of speech and to be softer for the ears

Do you have a video where you explain the differences sonically and visually/structurally between what Paiste labeled as a "crash", "medium", and "ride"? Thank you!!

Check out the Paiste wiki, it has weights and video samples of the models you described: www.cymbal.wiki/wiki/Paiste_2002#2002

Yes WIKI is great. In general Paiste has a taper to them and not really a bow shape like Zildjians. Also, as for weight, Paiste 14" med hats and Sound Edgd hats are way lighter than Zildjizn New Beats. Even their Heavy hats are a bit lighter than Zildjian. I think that this is also why Paistes seem to record so well. More of a scooped sound, less overtones and complexity and less midrange. They sit well in a mix and do not over power it.

Black label SE had 36 ripples, but red label had 32 ripples, production cuts $$$ more ripples on the 602 also!!! Comments ???

"Space 1999" intro theme and theme music throughout. The ending music is Moby from the ending credits theme from the movie "Heat"!

I'm pretty sure that Steve Smith has only ever used Zildjian cymbals. I've read and watched many interviews and I've never heard him mention Paiste.

He definitely used them! Mostly 2002's and a few sound creations. The picture I used is from his book, he says that he got an endorsement when he was with Jean Luc Ponty and used them on the Evolution album and tour! facebook.com/photo/?fbid=10224862007558972&set=pcb.3178866265546214

Yeah, he did as noted in other response. The first album with Journey you can hear them. Not sure on his 2nd one he did with them.

@@thetype85 Wow! I had no idea! Now I really have to get his book! It's so funny, because the ride on Ponty's Enigmatic Ocean sounds so much like Steve's 24" Zildjian Ping Ride that was used on Escape and Frontiers and all those tours. I guess Paiste was not as choosy back then because Steve was pretty much unknown before joining Ponty's group. So weird that he grew up playing Zildjian and then went to Paiste, then back to Zildjian again. So, I guess he was using Paistes in Montrose as well?
