Wow, first time I’ve fully agreed with this man. Thumbs up.
My sentiments exactly
I'll say bill is as liberal as they come but he's been pretty consistent in his support for free speech and distain for woke culture. I used to view him as radical, but I'm starting to think of him as an old school Democrat
@Darin Fry he is definitely an old school democrat but still loses me when he does things like bash on someone catholic religion in America.
@@graysonthacker7205 I'm catholic and yeah his views on religion are pretty harsh.
@@darinfry1543 same here, but hey, atleast he isn't as radical as the majority of media
The left has gone so far left that Bill now sounds like a conservative.
Theyll try to find a way to cancel him at some point if another rational thought comes out of his mouth.
Right!?!
Right? I’m actually a moderate but now, according to them, I’m far right!
I was scanning the comments to see if someone else said it first
My thoughts. If you listen to Obama's Sept 2012 U.N address, you'd swear he's a Rep.
Hollywood has lost it. Give awards to those that deserve it the most. It's not about race or sex etc. It's about quality of work.
Hollywood used to be a way for great artists to gather and become financial successes in a free market with lots of big investors taking risks on young visionaries. Nowadays all the ideas are played out, the audience aware of tropes and meta-meta-meta commentary. It's not shocked or surprised by anything and has a thousand references to compare each idea with similar ideas. Nothing is fresh and so only sequels are being produced. Conformity to the Chinese market while totally failing at virtue signaling to the US public is not only pathetic, it's basically open treason and a declaration of war against western values in favor of socialist capitalism. The fuck is happening? Have the chinese already won? Sometimes I think the war has ended a few years ago and we have capitulated in secret.
The only race being held back IN PRINT (with legally binding contracts) is white people. Whether it's at award shows, jobs, schools, anywhere. It's always a white person who has to give something up, and it's all in WRITING so PROOF is readily available.
Anyone who still believes this is fantasy I can show you the legal documents surrounding affirmation action programs. I can show you the documents for how schools select students for university. Bill Maher just showed you the documents for how Hollywood selects movies for awards.
@@taekwondotime No disagreement here. Affirmative action is systemic racism.
@@Dominian1 Thanks for the input. Good stuff.
@@taekwondotime Only white people? What about Asians? They're the ones mostly affected by Affirmative Action.
I'm a huge Bill Maher fan. He's usually right (IMO). This time, he's SUPER right. I hate what society is becoming (or has become). This "woke" culture is sickening. Just look at how everyone at the Oscars gave Will Smith a standing O for winning after he assaulted Chris Rock!! I cannot believe how f__ed up this society is. IMO, it's disgusting and is total Bull__ it!!!
This video didn't have enough deaf black lesbians in wheelchairs.
And now i finally have the name for my punk band, thank you

My fav genre of porn
When 5 decades ago during the first Equal Opportunity legislation my employer gave me the job of recording the data. The CEO joked that to improve our numbers he would be glad to hire a female black wounded disabled lesbian Vietnam vet because we could count her 5 times. Our society has improved a lot since then, but still our "CEO" (ex-president) gets wink-and-nod approval to grab women by the pussy, and 74 million people voted for him anyway. Go figure.
Name a deaf black lesbian in a wheelchair? I've never seen one that I am aware of.
His super liberal audience is experiencing cognitive dissonance throughout this segment lol
yup, and its absolutely hilarious.... he's gonna get cancelled soon n then he'll finally learn
I honestly think he would have flipped and became a Trump supporter if there wasn’t already animosity between the two.
What you Cons never seem to get is that Bill doesn’t have an Ultra Liberal audience. He’s too controversial and rough around the edges for them. His audience is for Democrats that are Left of Center and even Moderates. In other words...Smart people.

F*ck TheMatrix If he was gonna get cancelled by HBO, it would’ve happened a LONG time ago.
“People don’t want to be hired because they filled the quota.” - Preach!
People want to be hired period. Kind hard to be hired if people don't make an effort to look for talent where they normally don't. Fuck isn't that the point of most feel good movies of poor kids who were ignored because they weren't given the same chances?
That's the dumbest excuse ever.
Its intention is to expand and consider talents beyond an existing discrimating power structure.
Same surface argument against equity in a democracy because of the myth of meritocracy and American exceptionalism.
Youboreme No. I choose “value me as a person” every time. If someone hired me because of my race and not my worth, they are racist.
Tell that to Hattie McDaniel.
If all things were equal, I'd completely agree, but they're not.
@Christopher Cooper good for you. and while I have your participation award all ready to go. Perhaps you might consider this... It's not cause of their skin colour they get the job. its cause they can do the job they get the job. And all those affirmative actions you hate so much are a counter measure against the implicit biases that run rampant. Like how you are unlikely to get a job if you had the same cv as a guy with a white sounding name.
Wtf are they suppose to do if they wanted to make castaway today?! "Is your film diverse enough?" "Well there's...a ball...does that count? No? I guess we'll have to recast Tom Hanks then."
Tom Hanks, poster child of a white privileged dude, should be axed then, right? And Wilson (the ball) is too white. They'd better ban the movie now and bring in a basketball instead. It's brown
Volley ball is too white. It should have been a soccer ball. Mixed race.
The inverse of this joke is Paul Mooney on the chappele show. "Hollywood got it all wrong. The Mexican starring Brad Pitt. The last samurai starring Tom cruise. I got an idea for a movie: "The Last Nigga on earth, starring Tom Hanks" 😂😂😂
Well said
I am a indian myself but what you said makes sense. Diversity alone being a criteria is just plain stupid
That last part hits home for me. Back in university some of my classmates overheard the higher-ups complaining that there weren't enough minorities in our program. Hearing this, while already dealing depression and feelings of worthlessness, I couldn't help but wonder "did I only get accepted because of my foreign name? Maybe I wasn't actually good enough." Getting into such a competitive program had been a moment of pride at the time, but to this day I wonder if I actually got in on my own merit or just because my parents aren't White.
It is not yours to feel bad about, yet for those whose choices they themselves allow to be diluted with bias, favor bias or cancel bias included (hey an accidental pun!) My brother checked the "black" box on his application to Ryder College in NJ, way back in 1973 - very vivid times for causes, mostly- and he is mostly Ladino Gypsy, Sephardic, mostly like me, same mom, so he also is 1/2 white, I pass, so it's alright. I take issue now and then, yet only if I slip or feel any good can come of it. My brother did get his full "quota based acceptance" with grants for such the same. It was that he threatened to sue the school if they were biased, just because he checked the wrong box!
Don't feel bad. You had no control over it.
You tell us...how were your grades? Be honest. If your grades don't seem to have qualified you for the program, then you were picked as a token.
If course you only got in to meet a quota
@@mitchd949 Overall my average was 75, I think I ranged between 65-89 depending on the class.
90% of the audience is woke. The strained laughter. Bill, push through it. You’re not afraid. Love you.
Except for 'one guy's LOL!!!
his audiences are a bunch of dipsticks
It might be that he's just not funny.
His Klobuchar joke was quality though.
It's called over-socialization, and it is very scary.
I'm confused. Does 'woke' mean that you believe in covid? Or that Biden won the election? My understanding of the use of the word is opposite. To me, 10% of the audience is woke, the other 90% are just sheeples thinking they're in the Colbert studio.
"It's not that I hate people it's just that I feel better when they're not around."
- Charles Bukowski
The minute they felt the need to meet “quotas”, the Oscars lost all credibility. I haven’t watched them in 3-4 years.
I'm not a Bill Maher fan, but I do agree with him on this.
He has a lot of good stuff like this. His TDS was a bit tedious, but on rare occasions he even agreed with Trump.
I had to listen twice to the Schindler's List joke, it was both funny and chilling at the same time
@Ghost Ryder it's sensationalized but Oskar Schindler was a real businessman who saved Jews.
The audience just can’t believe what they’re hearing, they have no idea when he’s joking or how they should respond!
That's what I like most about the show. These partisan idiots being presented by their own kind with their hypocrisy.
Probably not a lot of people there though.
@@Hannibal082 Yeh I realized that later....lol....
Julie W.
Certainly not all of us.
Julie W. I think that they don’t actually feel guilt. They have big egos, and they get off by trying to upstage each other over who is the most woke. Then they look down on others who won’t take the pandering to minorities as far as them, resulting in their self-righteousness being satisfied.
All this “white privilege” stuff is nonsense anyways. Work hard enough and anyone can achieve what they want in this day and age. Don’t complain about the past, focus on the present and future, work hard, take care of your family. That’s why Nigerian immigrants do vastly better in America than Black Americans who have been here for several generations. They focus on a close family unit, are religious, and promote working hard, taking multiple jobs if necessary, doing whatever it takes to build a bright future.
The Schindlers List joke was a great, smart joke. I don't know if the audience was afraid to laugh or if all of them just didn't get it. Either way, great joke
I think half didn't get it and the other half was scared to laugh, which made the first half stop any laughing they might have done, when they saw the 2nd half not laugh. Great comment BTW.

Too bad bill’s seals couldn’t grasp it.
Bill's contempt for his own audience in these segments gives me life.
The Oscars are so boring. Just a bunch of entitled people stroking their own egos.
What do you expect it's an awards ceremony. They used to have an opening act which was entertaining from time to time i.e. Hugh Jackman in 2009 but now no one in Hollywood is woke enough to be allowed to host the show.
I'm a 33 yr old movie buff. I grew up loving the oscars and stayed up until 6am on a monday morning every year, just to watch all of it. I did that since I was 13 and I have to say that as a real fan of that shitshow, I'm sick that these fucking preachy types took over the show. It's meaningless, but in the age of Streaming and Chinese corporate cocksucking, the American Elite is unable to provide meaningful art anyways. It's like a US version of Bollywood nowadays.
@@CraigBickerstaff -- I enjoy the opening monologue, and there's always one musical number that really nails it.
The Shindler's list bit was emblematic! How ignorant the audience has to be not to laugh at that!?
Their liberal logic got all twisted on that one. :-D
I think these diversity quotas are just what the Oscars need to break the 2020 ceremony’s Record All Time Low Ratings Faceplant.

Is she the voice of reason?
@@joandolliedoyle775 in this situation Yes, yes she most certainly fucking is
Let's think about this.
Imagine that a movie stars a lesbian actress who has chosen not to let the world know about who she sleeps with.
Now, the production company want the movie nominated for an Oscar so they tell her "we have to tell the Academy about you being gay, is that ok?"
So the actress now have the choice of informing the world of her sexual orientation or missing the biggest career opportunity of her life.
How is that morally different from when gay actors did not dare to tell people they were gay in order to have a career?
That is so fuck...not fair on the actress at all.
Indeed. I think a lot of the "diversity is everything" crowd forgets that not all of us want to talk openly about our sexuality. I think part of this is because the idea of "personal privacy" seems more like a novelty. After all, people are putting out the most intimate details of their lives on social media every day, so why not tell the world your sexuality? It's really quite foolish as well as, potentially, harmful.
Lady Tsuki
Isn’t it ironic that Hollywood from it’s beginnings up till a few years ago felt exactly that way. During the ‘40s it was nobodies godamned business who Marlene Dietrich slept with. Only creeps and J. Edgar Hoover paid attention to those things. How far we’ve fallen.
@@Ckom-Tunes Yeah, that's very true. I also see that as a sort of micro view of society as a whole. Now, EVERYTHING is our business (or so we think). As a relatively private person (which gets me yelled at plenty heh), it's quite annoying. I don't want us going back to the bigotry we felt against homosexuals by any means, but us not focusing in on sexuality would be a welcome change.
Lady Tsuki
Yep.
When Bill is the voice of reason, wow!
think the central problem is the tension between inclusion vs pandering.
Of course you want diversity, but when it's forced, all it is is pandering. You lose the ability to judge art or anything any other way
Speak
No, you do not want diversity. You want to reward excellent artists. If it's not diverse, then it's not diverse and that's it. The desire of diversity is inherently pandering.
I agree. Art can not come with rules, it defeats the purpose of creativity.
I think the real goal isn't even inclusion itself but to reward talent and great art; the real problem is how much we judge talent and great art is filtered by our biases, which undoubtedly include racial, gender, etc. biases. Have films made by black directors and filled with black actors historically just been less artistic with less talent? Or have organizations like the Academy just been filled with racially biased voters that ignored them? Certainly we can swing too far the other way and start demanding inclusion and creating virtue check lists as a way to combat these biases, but then it does indeed feel like pandering. What's the optimal solution though? I think just telling people "judge merit" doesn't work. Everyone says they agree with MLK yet we still see huge disparities between groups even in scientific studies where we control for other environmental factors. So if people left to their own devices doesn't work, and forcing quotas doesn't work, what does?
@@jonathanhenderson9422 free speech is similar. Sure it's a fine ideal, but look at what free speech got us. Fox news, Alex Jones, rush limbaugh, etc
Does this mean Spike Lee will have to include more white people, asians and gay people in his movies?
Definitely not. He's a raging racist. Every problem is the fault of white people in his movies, I watched them. The saddest part is he can make a good movie... if you ignore that.
He already does
No. That would be like asking the NBA to include more white, asian, and gay people.
I thought he did already
And people actually like black actors. Nobody wants to see white asian in the nba it will be like watching fat people in a funk contest
The fact that the crowd didn't applaude the Schindlers list joke was deafening. Bill even recognized the fact that either they didn't get or they didn't like it.
I'd just like to give a shoutout to Dr. Jordan Peterson and Dr. Thomas Sowell for foreseeing all this woke leftist crap. Especially Sowell was speaking up against it decades ago, a real hero.
Bill forgot to mention that Darth Vader also is severely crippled by a work accident. So his handicap is also another reason why The Empire Strikes Back is eligible for an Oscar.
Also:
- former slave
- immigrant from Outer Rim
- follower of obscure religion
- estranged father
- child killer
Vader represents so many marginalized people that he could probably carry entire movie through that checkbox minefield.

@Julie W. agree, both extremes are stupid and would be so sad to live under those extremist rules. @@theprodigy6713 what country u mean? uSA is not in tip 10 in case u were thinking USA has higuest life expectancy, and is also not the best in child mortality.
cesar leon no the US does lead in world medical innovation, almost 3 times as much as in the UK which is second on the list. And for child mortality rate is an inconsistent stat because it’s different for other countries, just like mass murder or crime. The United States counts premature baby deaths while some other countries don’t count them. I wouldn’t say (input any country) has more mass shootings than the US for example because they consider 2 deaths as a mass shooting while the US is 3. It’s inconsistent is what I’m trying to say. The US healthcare is broken but I would be healthcare for all IF it still makes America have the medical innovation as it does now and have its higher quality.

The audience being mostly quiet or managing through awkward clapping is perfect subtext.
The Academy just changed the rules to gaurantee that Cuties wins next year and certain celebs get to mingle with the stars of it afterwards.
So glad they did this, now it will be easy to know which movies not to bother with
I just think it’s preposterous that the Academy puts these requirements on the studios without diversifying its own body.
"Two wrongs don't make one right: Two wrongs won't right a wrong."
--Benjamin Rush (one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence), 1783 ... HAVE THEY HEARD OF THE Mc CARTHY ERA ??? I thought it was the Liberal Arts ... This isn't being Liberal ... its controlling the Narrative and hypocritically picking and choosing what they deem as being "Worthy" enough to get a Oscar ... This isn't inclusion, what this is, is a kid who got picked on only to grow up and be the very bully they didn't want to deal with.
yup. very well said.
The Oscars have always done that, though. They tend to reward movies and performances that they see as "worthy", and largely ignore artistic merit. It's long been a running joke that if an actors does a holocaust or disabled role, they are almost guaranteed to win the Oscar.
Makes me want to head to Hollywood to make an all straight, white, male-casted movie!
I feel like I’m living in the twilight zone.
Pathetic. We have taken a step backwards as a society.
ONE step? we must be at ten or twelve by now
You measure such a distance in steps? Ever heard of a parsec?
Where have you been the last few decades?
@@cd5642 Don't get me wrong. I'm liberal but this is extreme liberalism. I hate them nearly as much as the extreme conservatives
Pat Tanackered unfortunately they have taken over the party and are currently in a nose dive towards destruction
Equity trumps actual merit as usual.
Hollywood: "We stand for inclusion. Excluding someone based on their race, sexual orientation, or religious beliefs is WRONG"
Middle America: "Hello Hollywood"
Hollywood: "You STFU racists!!!"
Middle America: "What about all of this inclusion talk?"
Hollywood: has left the chat
When/if Trump gets reelected the whole country will be "racist". Next, we'll be shamed into watching the NBA because we are racist and oppressing the players. It's just pure madness. .
"Natasha Gets a Tractor" so moving. Don't get me started on it's cinematography!
"I was caught in it's tractor beam. I could not escape this film as it checked more boxes than an IRS agent giving me an audit."-Rotten Tomatoes Review of Natasha Gets a Tractor
This movie does exist. It is called Tractor Drivers. Live with it now.
You should see the trailer. LOL.
You can hear about 10 people at the most laughing and clapping.
So basically.... the Oscars has literally gone done the shitter. We in Wakanda will never watch the Oscars again.
We miss you, your majesty.. How's heaven?
Black panther was the most brave and progressive political statement ever made.
Imagine what the world would look like today without it. (Exactly the same)
@@justherald1117 That's assuming he went there.
I thought "Natasha Gets a Tractor" was fantastic! I want through an entire box of Kleenex watching that one. Then I ran out of Kleenex and just used old socks...
This is why I quit watching movies and sports.
With the Right and Left drifting ever further to the extremes, it is good to know that there are still voices speaking for the rational center.
What’s silly is most Hollywood movies meet at least two of these quotas now a days. 🤦♂️
But a historically accurate movie about 6th century England wouldnt be able to be nominated as there were literally 0 non-white europeans here at the time.
Perhaps Gingers would count as a minority? Lots of Celts around in 6th century England...
@@bipolarminddroppings They could use actors of Sami descent. The "indigenous" peoples of northern Scandanavia, formerly known as Laplanders (considered a derogatory term like Eskimo now). Renee Zellweger is probably the most famous. They are literally the Whitest people on the planet, but were Shit upon by other Europeans for centuries, as badly as any Native Peoples anywhere else. Google it.
@@bipolarminddroppings Perhaps look at the actual list ;)
Not only does it contain 4 criteria of which only 2 must be met, 2 are concerned with the staff behind it, which usually every movie mets.
Also think about it: The Oscars are the industry padding itself on the back on how great they are. You really think they would make a list with which they could disqualify movies? Maybe even big successes? The entire thing is more publicity for money. And so is the list - a publicity stunt, designed to sound nice, while challenging nothing.
@@sideshowbob but they're white, 21th century Hollywood does not care about formerly oppressed people's unless they are of color or gay (those are important topics just to be clear but these new rules are just wrong)
@@bipolarminddroppings More like Bipolar Ball Droppings with that comment. See Shuizid's response.
Before we direct films what the content should be, shouldn't we start by asking for quality? I dunno, maybe better writing, better stories, better characters? And fire the people that made the new star wars films.
Just ban JJA forever. He ruined Star Trek and Star Wars. I'm afraid there will be a Stargate remake soon.
"Quality" & Hollywood haven't even resided on the same city block (let alone gone together) for ages now. The last truly great movie to ever come out of it was _maybe_ "Good Will Hunting"...not too many good examples after that.
@@schechter01 I think 'One True Thing' with Streep was good but it lost out to Julia Roberts bouncing her knockers around....
@@schechter01 exactly right! I'm glad I grew up in the 70$ & 80$ when movies were awesome! We will never see their like again!
@@chrisoakley5830 and now their watch has ended.
Bill’s been on point lately. Glad to see democrats calling out the progressive wing of their party.
I think that there a lot of moderates on both sides who are being told to "pick sides" and shut up about anything that isn't the party's platform. Media platforms are on "sides" so where's the dialogue for reasonable, rationale, people who can generally see both sides of an issue.
When they stop calling them "Pro" gressive, as too "re" gressive, & entire cities ablaze become "riots", not; "peaceful protests" Criminals are not victims,The left will have come to their senses.
well, he may be the one and only...hear the doubting and confused reactions of his audience
Tell it like it is Bill!!!
Extremism leads to backfire and drawback.
EVEN from a "for the cause" viewpoint the academy did a poor move.
Odd since historically it has often been the most effective form of rallying cry. Not a disagreement just a thought.
Take the red pill, Maher! You're basically almost there
Life is a pendulum, it swings one way too far and comes swinging back the other way too far, it never stops in the center, because no one is ever happy and no one can ever agree.
Well said
THANK YOU ONE GUY
Soon they're gonna declare "The Godfather" Racist since there are no characters of colors in entire trilogy...
...and "the Shaushenk Redemption" is apparently Sexist, since the Only Female character in the movie is killed of screen before even the movie starts (Andy's Wife)
Rob Melrose No, those straight actors were ACTING. They should’ve been played by ACTUAL gay people! And those gay guys were portrayed in a negative light when they should be the stunning and brave heroes! Andy is the straight, white male, so he’s clearly the villain of the story-even if he didn’t kill his wife. And who cares if it’s an all male prison in the 1950’s. We need a trans prisoner in there to diversify the cast, historical accuracy be damned!
@@QuidamByMoonlight -- Prisoners should only be played by real prisoners. In case a prisoner gets offended by a non-prisoner portrayal.
Who cares about the Oscars? Rich people giving other rich people awards. Over it
@chuck carl Since when is not caring the same as hate?
@chuck carl --- Many rich people are very hate-able. Especially ones that virtue-signal.
Thaaaank you! I've said for years, bunch of industry people patting themselves on the back. Nauseating.
Amazing that this came from this person.
This audience is malfunctioning 😂😂
Academy Awards: "We're sorry, but your film cannot be considered for Best Picture as it isn't politically colored."
Sooo... Tom Hanks in "Cast Away" would have been right out !
Although... Hey, technically "Wilson" is a red skin ! And he's a major supporting character.
That island all alone is sounding nice right about now.
Don't worry, there will soon be an inclusive remake of Cast Away with a strong, independent whamen of color in the main part.
