Hi Bre, I am starting growing mini romaine, onions and broccoli from seed now in South Florida. I also will be planting the Charantais cantalope, beans, cucumbers and more tomatoes and peppers.
I’m in total agreement with the San Marzano and Amish paste! I’ve already got some Supremo Roma seeds to plant - thanks to seeing your great success. I just ordered some items that are only available to purchase in plant form. I’m a big fan of a black tea called Assam. I found that it is from the leaves of the Camillia sinensis. (Which is also where you get green, oolong and white tea, also) I also ordered chocolate mint, pineapple sage, lemon thyme and laurel.
I am in zone 7b and I’ve grown Amish paste and red rocket and felt the same I did not like them. I will plant the Hal’s jumbo cantaloupe this year because of your success. I have never grown melons successfully where I am.
Thank you so much for sharing the link for your cantaloupe as well as your tomato varieties 😊🎉. You’re a true inspiration and blessing to us starter gardens.
Great video!! I purchase from all the ones you mentioned and would like to add - MIGardener!! Luke has great varieties and keeps his cost down like $2 for a decent packet - he did a video on his seeds and pricing👍🏼 Stand- Up Small Business guy!
This is the video I've been waiting for. I've watched your other videos and stop them to write the varieties you mention. It great to have the source to get them. I have already ordered some of them. So excited to plan my 2025 garden🌱
I watch your videos from Hungary!! always love hearing when people love the hungarian peppers. Also the word "magyar" means hungarian, so it is just hungarian pepper 😘😘
Blight, Bolt, Bettles… tell me what else to study this winter while I prepare for my first garden Bree. Every time you drop a video I am sat!! Taking notes and buying my seeds now! Thank you for this video. 🧡
I had the same issue with mold when I cured my onions this year. I grow yellow sweet Spanish and I'm located in Iowa. It's almost enough to not want to grow them again this year. I haven't decided yet. I'm surprised you had those issues with Amish paste, I had such a great harvest this year. Same with San Marzano. If you like cayenne, give Chile de Árbol a try. They dry so well and taste SO good with a nice heat. I put them on everything. Poblanos never seem to set fruit until late in the season so I don't try them anymore. I have been doing a ton of seed shopping already and I'm really excited for seed starting. I do almost all my flowers with the Winter Sowing method because I need to use my indoor space for food. You should give that a try! Minimal work for maximum benefits.
i grew belstar this year here in western WA and it was the best broccoli ive grown by far...also if youre looking for a nice processing indeterminate roma try striped roman, beautiful color and great taste!
In E TN, San Marzano does not grow well here either. Jersey Devil has been the absolute best producer here. Another E TN gardener agrees with this observation. zone 7a/b here. We also grow Tam Jalapeno peppers for production. We like "poppers."
Hi I’m new to your channel and I am enjoying the good information that you are sharing. I also have had problems growing squash. I tried all kind of seed companies and a few that you have mentioned as well, but no luck. Until I tried Hoss Tools, their squash varieties have done good for me. Good luck and can’t wait for more videos.
I'm actually very pumped to try that Hungarian pepper for paprika. My aunt brought me back some good paprika from Budapest and life will never be the same, it had so much flavor and complexity too it that I put it on just about everything I could find.
My heart is always filled when someone enjoys a hungarian paprika powder. I am Hungarian, and the paprika you recieved is most likely not even at its full potencial. So be prepared for an even more outbursting taste ❤ Wishing you all the best! Happy gardening. ❤
Hi Bre. I hope you and yours had an amazing Christmas and I want to wish you a Happy New Gardening Year! I do have one question. Did you ever figure out what type of sunflower you had in your garden this year? It was the one that was like 16 feet tall and had multiple branches of sunflowers on it. Thanks for anything you can provide.
You should look into rampicante squash. Essentially dual purpose to replace zucchini and butternut. I haven't had issues with vine bore ever but this variety is supposed to be resistant
Thanks for sharing. Can you possibly let us know where you order each of your favorite seeds. I’m especially interested in the tomatoes and peppers, but really want to try all of your favorites.
I grow the Paris Island lettuce also. I have good luck with it. I don't have good luck with carrots. Did you say you grow combalit carrots? I just have a courtyard garden but love your videos and so does my one granddaughter and one of her high school teachers watch you also. .............Nancy
I got a late start on my luffa. 23 out of 24 were still green at frost. Each one did have a sponge though but the process of cleaning them took a lot of effort
It is funny although we are almost in the same zone(7). I had humongous success with San Marzano and also made that green tomato pie because I had such an abundance. They grew through Veterans Day and I had to pick them all because we just had a frost. Of those that were green 90% of them turned red when I put them in a bin to ripen. Very successful. Also, my Amish paste were very successful and large plump tomatoes. So I think it's your Zone that doesn't like the tomatoes. I'm in the Western New York on Lake Erie and the they have been great tomatoes for me. They were so prolific this year last year was a tough year because the Canadian Wildfire smoke affected my entire Garden. This year more than made up for it❤
I grew cantaloupe last few years but I felt the flavor was so mild and bland I would like to try this Hal’s variety because I do love. My staples are chamomile, cucumbers, tomato’s, and peppers, and dill. I love plants a variety of flowers. Watermelon I also liked growing but like you said it’s a hard one to grow it got disease and I was disappointed about the fruit- I did orange/ yellow watermelon this year and it tasted the exact same as a normal watermelon. I crave completely given up on yellow squash and zucchini even tho I love to grill them in summer the vine bore gets it EVERYTIME even with all the measures I’ve taken. I’m really missing summer and heat- I’m in Minnesota. Planning the garden is keeping me going. I’ve been rewatching your garden tours ❤
I grew Nova tomato this year. Amazing. Survived a super late frost...lost leaves, but came back and produced a ton of fruit anyway. Short and stocky. I question if I even needed to cage them.
Thank you for your suggestion on where to source Hungarian pepper seeds! I really want to try them next year, and you have inspired me to make my own paprika powder! I will also be trying to grow luffa this year! When I visited my parents over Thanksgiving, they mentioned a local luffa farm nearby and I was able to purchase some seed from them! Happy to find a variety that has been bred to grow in California. Cheers!
Thanks for the idea!! I will say I was the same way, and its 10x's easier than I thought it was going to be. Ive had mine for 1.5 years and never had a issue yet & changing the soil is super easy! I did have to run its own electrical outlet to the breaker so that was a extra expense I didn't realize in the beginning.
I grow San Marzano in my zone 6a Northern NJ and they do pretty good, but this year I purchased the Federle from MI gardener, and I am now in love. So many fruit and they have a cute little point at the bottom and were very prolific. I will still probably grow the San Marzano, but more Federle for sure.
The only way I was able to beat the squash bug is to go out as close to daily as you can and get those eggs on the bottom of the leaves. I did this and finally got ahead but went out almost daily
Nope, have never grown any of those specifically. My go to vegetables are Long Season Beet, Black Seeded Simpson lettuce, Celebrity tomatoes, Sun Gold tomatoes, Ambrosia sweet corn, Savor muskmelon, Fall Sweet, Winter Sweet, North Georgia Candy Roaster squash and Patterson Onion. Might try that sunflower. tks
You said ,,hungarian magyar paprika". ,, In hungarian language ,,magyar" means simply hungarian:) It's just hungarian pepper. :) Greetings from Hungary by the way! And thanks for the video!
You said you were planting onions at the end of Dec. Are you starting them indoors? Or out in the garden? 1st timer here and in the same zone as you. 😊
You misspoke the first time about your onions. You are in an intermediate area. You said indeterminate. Onions are also long day or short day depends on how far north or south you are . I am in the north although we are in the same Zone I need a long day onions. Happy seeding
How do you keep gnats out of your indoor soil for seed starting? I need to get ready to start my onions and want to be sure I have everything ready to go
Put soil in a cheap casserole pan at 4" or less deep, heat at 350 for 20-25 min. (I use the foil ones from Walmart). Let cool, then use. I ran across this on UA-cam and have done this for 2yrs, no gnats!!
Did you have Squash bug or vine borer issues with the cantaloupe? I am planning to grow them this year and our issues with these pests decimate my squash.
Squash bugs and squash vine borers do not care for cantaloupes, or melons in general. Speaking from personal experience growing them in Kansas the past few years. Happy gardening
Have you grown anything of these? What was your experience?
Thank you for this list! As a fellow Kansas gardener I am excited to try your own tried and true crops.
As another Kansas gardener I agree @c8hoops. I’ve been looking for a broccoli to grow in spring. Want to try De Cicco too

2nd year gardener here. That's just the "b"s. Lol I have received such an education in the last few years.
and hornworm!, most common tomato pest.
The goldy honeybee sunflower and those cantaloupes looked absolutely stunning! Definitely want to grow those! 😍🙌💚🌻

Ugh sorry to hear that! I went back and forth as well. Ive been debating on how much space I was to devote to them this year because of it.

My favorite tomato is the capri. I bought some in Aldi & just put the older ones in the ground.
I love how positive you are :) also I am starting seeding around February I am looking forward to spring because winter was just not it 😔
Best of luck in 2025!
I love your videos!

Thats awesome!! Best of luck on both of them in 2025!!
Could you do a video on how to set up, use and maintenance on your freeze dryer? I want to purchase one but afraid of the technical aspects of it.

Is the Federle a indeterminate as well? Ill check it out!
@ it is an indeterminate, giant paste heirloom from West Virginia.
I’m in Ontario, Canada but I think our growing environment is pretty similar to I’m keen to try these varieties
Red angel onions from hoss do well on our area
The only way I was able to beat the squash bug is to go out as close to daily as you can and get those eggs on the bottom of the leaves. I did this and finally got ahead but went out almost daily
i have issues with vinebore.. zucchini do great planted end of july. montreal quebec here
Planting later in the season has helped me as well! I typically do it in my second wave of planting.
You make me miss having a garden! Do you ever plan to experiment in aquaponics or hydroponics?
Nope, have never grown any of those specifically. My go to vegetables are Long Season Beet, Black Seeded Simpson lettuce, Celebrity tomatoes, Sun Gold tomatoes, Ambrosia sweet corn, Savor muskmelon, Fall Sweet, Winter Sweet, North Georgia Candy Roaster squash and Patterson Onion. I'm always looking for new varieties! Ive never tried any of those, thanks for sharing!
No. GA. Is my favorite.

I don't think you mentioned what the intermediate day storage onion seeds where and where you found them. (I'm also 7a but in St. Louis.)
I have never had any luck growing Bakers Creek seeds. I prefer Hoss seeds out of Georgia
How do you keep gnats out of your indoor soil for seed starting? I need to get ready to start my onions and want to be sure I have everything ready to go

I typically get a sticky trap and that does the trick!
Did the melons grow from the seeds ur friend gave you? I cant remember if you already talked about them but it just crossed my mind.
Never had a issue with them!
What were your thoughts on growing the bread poppy? Will you be growing it again? Mine didn’t germinate but hoping to try again next year
I will be growing them again! I really enjoyed them!
Yay!
Wheres the sweater in your thumbnail from? It's gorgeous!
