Dang...I live on Canyon Lake and our water restrictions allow for watering only once ever two weeks. My Bermuda lawn was absolutely destroyed by last year's drought and although it's slowly recovering, I don't have much hope for it this year.

Are you allowed to hand water? That’s brutal - there might not be much hope honestly

Once every 2 weeks. I have 17000 sqft of lawn. That's difficult to hand water.

Hey Rhett. Unrelated question. I’m doing a scalp and leveling project next week. Would you recommend using hydretain now or after the leveling?

When you scalp down and verticut while it's scalped, how long does it typically take to come back to 100%?

Where do you dispose of all the debris from verticutting

I have spots with no grass. What can I do for my Bermuda to grow and fill the empty spots? I'm in the Katy area. Thanks!

Get a Proplugger and auto transplant Bermuda from your good grass to the bare areas. Fill the holes with a mix of potting soil and sand.

So bermuda is subterranean? Meaning it doesn't matter how you butcher or burn the plant above ground, it won't kill the plant?

Yes, it's got stolons and rhizomes. It's almost indestructible lol

Definitely hoping to get a little rain in the coming week. There seems to be decent chances.

You got cajones, Rhett! 😃 Up here in Austin we are in Stage 2 watering restrictions, only get one irrigation night per week, and hitting mid 90s every day with no rain coming soon. I’d be so worried about it drying out and never greening back up, but I guess your soil must be on point!

Us too! Hoping to get some rain in the 10 day. It looks sorta promising lol

I thought you weren't gonna scalp this season? What changed your mind?

    • @LawnInsider

That was last year, actually! Basically I scalp whenever I notice my mows are getting progressively worse. What I mean by that is the mower starts skating, I start seeing random scalping, not great color, etc.

What's your opinion on verticutting cool season lawns like KBG with rhizomes? I've seen mixed opinions. I tried it on one section of my lawn (100% kbg) last fall and it seems to have a negative effect. Although it brought up a lot of thatch, it seems to have brought in a lot of poa annua / triv this year. I overseeded last fall after verticutting with the same elite kbg cultivars used during my lawn reno. This section just seems to not want to bounce back quickly in terms of thickness / growth.

How long does it usually take to get back to the desired look?

Rhett, love watching your videos, especially since you're just down the road from us in SMTX and your timing for applications/lawn care tasks aligns with ours. BTW, would you be interested in giving a DIY lawn care class to residents of our neighborhood? I've started a DIY Lawn Care group in our neighborhood and have had someone from Texas A&M Extension office as well as our golf course's superintendent give our group a class...but not from an actual DIYer. Would that be something you would be willing to do? You might even have that as content for your channel, not to mention possible increase in subscribers to your channel from our neighborhood.

Being a lawn overachiever comes at a cost, having to see your neighbors yard I know.

Water restrictions are a crime. The cities are restricting citizens but selling water to major business.
