That’s because he is NOT a competitive runner.

You expect everyone to follow a marathoner’s routine?

Alot of xc runners here hating on him and saying he isnt doing much.
The truth is 1 mile a day still has alot of health benefits and is perfect for someone like him who isnt into running or racing but it just trying to stay in shape and be healthy.

Absolutely untrue---cardio-pulminary& cardiorespiratory fitness is NOT achieved in under 10 minutes-ask any knowledgeable doc or surgeon.
Doing LESS-worrying about how" fast" your mile is----is a sure fire prescription for injury.
Your body makes( positive) physiological adaptations to running by volume/ time spent on your feet.I could go on -but, its not worth proving.
I guess if I lift 5 pounds -I can expect strength gains coz as you say its better than nothing right?

    • @indigan9034
      @indigan9034 5 років тому +229

Ted Allison idk why you would ask a surgeon but any cardiologist will tell you that even 1 mile daily can severely lower risks of heart attack etc.
My point here isnt that he is building fitness. Its that many people are saying he needs to be doing more or what he is doing is pointless. In reality, he doesnt need to be running more because he isn’t running competitively. He is doing it for the physical and mental health benefits and for the enjoyment of the sport and therefore doesnt need to increase his volume.
Not everyone wants to run 30+ miles a week and you should respect that.
Also last thing. Running 1 mile cant be compared to lifting 5 pounds. Running and lifting cant really be compared at all because of just how different they are on the body.

I started off on a gradual process. I ran one mile a day for 3 weeks, than I started running 2 miles Mon, Weds, Friday and one mile Tues, Thurs, Saturday. So I've been doing this for 9 weeks now and I'm 193! That's 34 pounds just running! My muscles are getting really tight and I feel amazing! I'm over 40!

Well done Kyle, this is inspiring for anyone thinking about starting to run. People think they have to run further but starting like you are just doing a mile is great for building confidence in your own abilities. It would eventually spur you on to go further. Even doing a mile you felt that urge to get your running shoes on and get out there. For those living in less amazing places that Kyle was running, just go to a park. If your not sure how far exactly how far a mile is, just run 7.5 minutes from your car then turn around and run back. Great video.

I’m going into my senior year and this past junior year I joined track. I had no previous training at all, I was basically starting from the dirt. I’m doing summer conditioning currently for XC and I ran my first competitive 5k at a 25:30 which doesn’t sound like much. But for me it was a huge accomplishment. I remember my first track meet running the 2 mile. At the end I started to cry, it was like it all hit me at once. Look at what you can do! This is amazing! I remember when I first joined track I went on a run for the first time by myself and couldn’t last 10 minutes before stopping the first time. Now I can go up to 6 miles nonstop. I hope to cut that 25 down to an 22, and get my mileage up to 12 nonstop. Running has changed my life. I’m doing things I never thought I would be able to do. I owe so much to it :)

Hey Kyle! I'm currently a college student, but just a little over a year ago I was a XC runner in high school.
I am so glad you made this video and were completely honest with the pros and the cons!
I'm so happy that you did this challenge and implemented a run into your everyday routine for a month. It IS rewarding to see your time go down and to see how easy it gets after a while to run a pace that you used to. I think it's also super rewarding to see the number of miles you overcame within a period of time; I feel as though that has always been the most exciting thing for me (besides feeling energized afterward).
I've never seen your videos before but awesome video, man and GOOD FOR YOU!! Keep it up.

Is that really true? I NEVER run, but got inspired (partly due to this video and partly because of David Goggins book). I went from 9.04 to 08.37 to 07.35 on my first three 1-mile runs. What is an actual good time (for runners)?

Weird. Your video just popped up in my feed. I love how Google spies on us. I can only assume it recorded my conversation and proposed this video. Anyway, I'm 62 and usually run 7 miles at lunch time. I just started running one mile the day before yesterday in the morning. Why? I get up at 4:00 AM and work until 4:30 PM. Coffee just doesn't do it for me. I work at a place with a suspended walk way in doors on the second floor. I checked the distance and 28 times around makes a mile. So, I started running 30 times around. I run at 5:00 AM before anyone gets in to work. Lots of glass to look outside. No worries about weather and at a minimum I get a run every day. Exciting way to live.

Owen Tattersall i wanted to post just don’t care. But since i have been in that place myself. I’m gonna do some effort to really help you.
Things that got me to care less is just thinking about that you need to care less. Go watch some videos on youtube they will make sense. But one of my biggest motivation when i need to go run and i’m afraid like some kids of highschool will see me. I just tell myself it doesnt matter i have a goal and i shouldnt care for other opinions. If you don’t are who you want to be, if you dont do what you are. You are not only lying to yourself you are lying to the whole world. This defenitely is a thing almost everyone struggles with.
And if you are not in the stuff i described above and you don’t want to work on your mental state. You can just pick a route that almost nobody takes or you can go running at a running course.

I hope you went on that run, remember everyone has their own level of fitness and goals, what I can do maybe you cant and what you can do maybe I cant so dont ever be embarrassed or not confident because the hardest part of anything is getting up and doing it. The fact that your even trying is the confidence you need because some don't even do that. Everyone has their own opinion but the only one that truly matters is your own. Also like i said bro remember everyone has their own pace dont be embarrassed to go at your own it will make you better, im learning that myself training for this run and i never tried long distance before but in order to grow you have to take yourself out of your own comfort zone.

There has to be a spare 10 minutes we can all sacrifice to our overall health and well being and I most certainly will be giving this one a go. I do a 6am gym (weight lifting) session 4 times a week then work then home to the kids but I can definitely spare 6-10 minutes everyday for the cardio.

people be saying it's just a mile but there's a start for everything. A mile may not be long but it has so many benefits. Kudos for doing it every day

What kind of headphones are you using when you run? I've been having a hard time finding the right headphones that can handle movement.

I use iPhone's headphones for Samsung mobile, they resisted the movement, though Samsung's headphones gave me a hard time frequently.

honestly beat solo 3’s are amazing for running if you’re willing to spend the money. I love mine. The only downside is they’re not waterproof

Hey Kyle! A few running tips I have for you if you want more successful runs:
A successful run is a run that you’ve started and completed, strong. It’s hard to start a run and even harder to keep your mind staying positive during it. But I have a few tips.
    1. There is a free app called Nike Running Club in the App Store. It’s great! There are audio guided runs narrated by Nike global head coaches. They’ll talk you through each run, tell you there own tips and reassure you about how hard it can be to run. But I find that it is very helpful if you need to get your run in but you’re lacking “head space”.
    2. Run earlier in the morning or later in the evening. It’s summer and it’s getting hotter. The best times to run are before 11 am and after 3 pm. In between then is when the sun is at its highest point. You’re not running smart if you don’t take care of your body. So, run during cooler times in the day and drink lots of water after your runs.
    3. Incorporate strength training and try tempo runs if you want to improve on your mile time and overall fitness. If you don’t have access to a full equipment gym then try body weight exercises and workouts. You can use the Nike Training club app as well as the Popsugar Fitness channel on UA-cam.
    4. Eating the right kind of foods. It’s important to eat lean proteins in order to maintain healthy energy levels. If you don’t take care of your body then you will see that your fitness is lacking later on.
I hope these tips help you or anyone reading;)
