People who run at this level will NEVER not be a huge inspiration to me. Especially since I've struggled to get good at running basically my whole life. Cheers mate!
🙏 Thanks so much man! That struggle that accompanies us throughout our lives is what makes our lives meaningful.
What's your PR mile Radio? Mine is 5:56 sub 6. I never imagined getting that but I'm working up, and this guy is an inspiración
Nice job at not really but really using negatives in your statement. Verbal diarrhea
No offense to the runner, but 4:17 isn't impressive. I've done it left handed (normally right handed) at 4:08. Right handed I'll usually break 4 minutes.
Like I said, no offense and respect to the runner. Maybe he was just going light.

The tall guy that's running it's like he's just floating on air just flying I really like the way he runs!
🙏🙏
He looked like he was born and his body just grew to be specifically engineered for running
The whole time I was watching him run, I was thinking to myself, "dude is like a gazelle" lmao
people who take longer strides spend less time pushing off the ground accelerating , more time in the air means more time ur slowing down. That's why 4 legged races are getting faster, and faster.

If after 20 years you still have that feeling, you definitely did god choosing running and following this path as Athlete. Congrats!!!
I'll never regret it for sure 😃
And he cant even keep his own pace ?

Mind blowing. Those people on the track don’t even realize the excellence they just witnessed right next to them.
4:17 !!! It’s like you sprinted the whole way. I’m mind blown. Great stuff man
Yes they understand fully well how amazing this was
Lol they was cheering him on idk what you’re talking about
He basically did sprint. For people like him this movement is almost 40% anaerobic. Less conditioned (and genetically gifted) runners will have a much lower percentage.

It’s difficult to gauge speed with camera angles, but the foot cadence sound translated perfectly. 🚀
I remember i lived in Colorado for three months and i used to train at this track, what makes this more impressive is that he’s running this fast at a high elevation, at sea level he’d probably go faster

And it also said 5k race pace so imagine going all out for just one mile
Sub- 4:10 for sure
Bloody hell! Wow. That's insane pace. Luis is extremely fit. Well done. I would only be able to this pace for less than a minute 😄 🤣
hahahah thanks! It was tough but we got it done
People don’t understand how impressive this actually is Great work 💪🏼
Even Batman might not run this fast
I ran very competitively in high school with my best mile time being a 4:35. For anyone who doesn't run, just know that hundreds of hours and thousands and thousands of miles go into running at this level. I remember biking to school every day at 5:30am to run 4 miles with my guys before showering and going to class, then getting out of school to run and train for 3-4 more hours. Waking up at 6:00 all summer and a lot of times running close to a marathon in a day when you add in afternoon practice. Kudos to you Luis! Such an impressive time congrats.
How long ago was this?

i can feel the shin splints from reading this comment
Ive ran at mile high (Denver and Albuquerque) quite a bit, and I've run at sea level quite a bit. Most people don't understand how much that makes a difference. VERY impressive mile time for anyone, but especially for that altitude.
Thanks Isaac! Yeah, it's definitely a lot harder
I find your training so inspiring! As a 53 year old runner and coach myself, I learn so much from you that I can pass on to my clients! Keep pushing Luis!
That is awesome! Thank you for following 🙏
I just discovered your channel and am loving all the videos. There's no substitute for an outdoor run out in the wild under your own power, or the feeling of camaraderie you get when you're grinding it out on the trails with your running group. You and Nate Castner do an amazing job at capturing the primal feelings of it all.
Thanks for coming along Julio. We love what we do and we hope it inspires you 🙏
I don’t understand how you just keep going at that pace. Makes my lungs hurt just watching!
Other than conditioning of course, the secret is the economy of movement not being a struggle or sluggish but actually a smooth economy. So when you try to launch your buttocks muscles to propel yourself forward real hard like you were sprinting that would be an explosive exertion which strains energy thus eventually effecting your economy of movement and that hard launching from your buttocks as if you were sprinting also makes you land your foot harder, and the hard landing of your foot will definitely make your economy of movement sluggish (obviously from the hard landing of the foot slowing you down). So the best way to keep a smooth economy of movement is having most of your energy applied to bringing your leg forward.
That is not to say make your knees high, which can deter economical movement, but it is the same focus of energy to swinging your legs forward. If most of your focus is on this main movement of swinging leg forward, you'll then notice economy of movement becomes much smoother and the whole ordeal is less troublesome. Part of why focusing energy mainly on swinging your leg forward enhances your economy is because by the time your foot lands for that abrasive pounding to the floor it's not that abrasive because the energy of swinging your leg forward has it's residual energy ride off into the foot landing and leaving quickly. Meaning the energy of the leg swung forward is a momentum carried into your foot-landing and that momentum aids in lessening the load of landing, so the foot landing actually piggy backs energy off of the leg swinging forward. When both your legs are focused on swinging the leg forward they both swing almost like a pendulum, and the pendulum of both your legs alternately swinging forward is a very economical movement by this "pendulum". And of course as I said initially, it's a lot of condition over time but it's also all about regulating your Respiratory activity. You want the breath to control the motor exertion, don't let the motor exertion overtake your breath (breath has to always be on top). One way to help be acquainted with that is to kinda hold your breath for just half a second before you exhale it (technique called box breathing).
So conditioning over time, strengthen Respiratory by sort of holding your breath a bit with the breath dictating exertion (not exertion dictating your breath), and like two alternating pendulums the main focus of your energy is swinging that leg forward (unlike sprinting which is launching from the buttocks to propel yourself hard forward).
These are just my thoughts from experience, sorry for suddenly ranting here lol, just thinking aloud

Pretty fast for a 14 year old. If that is really is your pb then your looking to get d1 offers if you progressively drop your times until your senior year of high school .

Hello Luis,
I was wondering if you could do some videos about fundamentals in running? Examples could be your day of a planned workout with insight view of your nutrition through the day, pre-workout nutrition, warm up routine, cooldown routine, post-workout routine as stretching/foamrolling and the day after recovery run. Great to follow your Kenya series!
Thanks for the ideas! We've been talking about it for a while but it's been hard to plan it with so much travelling. We will get to it for sure 🙏

i did a 4:17 mile my junior year in highschool, i still hold the record for my hoghschool that day was lit lol
I could barely break 6 mins in hs for the mile. I was always so slow. But at this point, my VO2 max has dipped down to about 7:30 pace. I’ve been getting into long distance/marathon endurance training this past year, working on slow running base building, . But this video takes me back to h.s track days and motivates me to go work on speed again. Which will def also help with the half / full marathon stuff down the road.
