    That is so cool. and cheap!. I would never have thought that you could take your own food to a restaurant/cantina and have them clean, prepare and cook it for you. Washing it down with a $1 beer - the icing on the cake!!

    *_THX_* for fun “memory-charged” video of Mazatlán, amigos, where we have been unable to visit for the umpteenth time from our ‘southern coastal location’ for *3 Years Now* due to Covid precautions. And where the *Camarones a la Diabla,* prepared with the famed Monster Mazatlán ‘blue’ prawns bought from *_‘Las Changueras’,_* are still The BEST that we’ve ever eaten anywhere in México!!
    👉 And BTW, you don’t need a Pacifico to _“wash it down”,_ you just some *Muy Picante* Salsa Roja!!!🤣

      It's so much fun AND it's a really good value. In our opinion the shrimp market itself is quite well-known but it seems not too many folks know that they can avail of getting it cooked right there.

      Hi Peter. We've heard some of them prepare fish as well as shrimp. To be honest, we don't know if they cook, say, squid or lobster in addition to the food they do prepare. They only mention the preparation of shrimp on their menus. Yes, the lobster looks very good, we've yet to try it!

    A great video! I made the mistake of watching this just before lunch so am now ravenous! :) Just to check, it was US$6 per kg to buy the shrimps... how much did it cost to then have them cleaned and cooked for you?

    • @ACoupleofDrifters
      @ACoupleofDrifters  3 роки тому +2

      Thank you. As Fiona says in the video, it's $60 MXN per kilo to cook and clean the shrimp, or about $3 USD. We also showed the menu which is featured on the front of the restaurant. :-)

    The shrimp you get there is farm raised not fresh it comes frozen in blocks of ice overnight

    • @ACoupleofDrifters
      @ACoupleofDrifters  2 роки тому +1

      Indeed, SOME of the shrimp the Changueras sell may be farm-raised and some may be wild-caught and then frozen at sea. However, we never mention in the video that the shrimp sold by the Changueras are NOT farm-raised. In fact, some people prefer farm-raised fish and seafood as opposed to wild-caught for the simple reason that much less fossil fuels are consumed during the harvest. Many fishing fleets go out to sea for weeks at a time and freeze their catch aboard their vessels - most people are aware of this already. Don't forget that when it comes to mentioning perishable foods, fresh can also mean pleasant, bright, firm and clean in appearance, or it could mean that the food is not being sold in a frozen and/or spoiled state. What's more, many regulatory agencies responsible for such things, in countries throughout the world, consider frozen meat and seafood "fresh" as long at it doesn't go below a certain temperature - this means that it can still be placed in a below-freezing environment for shipment and storage but it is still considered fresh (and is sold as such) as long at it stays ABOVE a certain below-freezing temperature. Considering this, do you know what the proper Mexican regulatory agency has determined when it comes to shellfish harvested and sold here? Does that agency have such standards? If you have this information, it would be very helpful for you to share it here so that others reading this comment will know for certain. If not, just understand that, again, fresh can also mean a food which is bright, pleasant, clean in appearance and not sold in a frozen and/or spoiled state. Additionally, you or any other potential customer who might be concerned about the shrimp being sold here can simply ask the Changueras about the fish and seafood they sell. Just ask which shrimp is farm-raised, which shrimp is wild-caught, which shrimp were frozen at sea, for how long they were frozen and whether or not the proper regulatory agency considers the shrimp being sold there as fresh or frozen based on that agency's standards, or if that agency even has such standards.😀

    • @ACoupleofDrifters
      @ACoupleofDrifters  2 роки тому

      Rochelle,
      As for what "they" announce to you: That is something you must comment to "them" about if you have a problem, not us.
      The vendors have never announced to us that the shrimp is fresh - they just tell us, based on the size of the shrimp, what the per-kilo price is. Have you questioned the vendors about not selling fresh shrimp ? If so, what have these vendors said to you about this? We don't care at all if the shrimp we buy from these vendors is farm-raised, caught at sea and sold to us within a few hours, or frozen at sea - it's all fresh in our opinion and we'll explain that in more detail down below. These vendors have never sold us shrimp which wasn't fit for consumption, but that has just been our experience.
      Can you prove that absolutely NONE of the shrimp being sold EVERYDAY, by EVERY vendor is fresh? I am talking about PROOF and not something you heard. That could be difficult to prove... Is SOME of the shrimp sold by those vendors frozen at sea? Absolutely! Is SOME of the shrimp the vendors sell farm-raised? Very likely! Is SOME of the shrimp wild-caught and delivered unfrozen to the vendors for sale that day? That's entirely possible, too. Shrimp wild-caught and sold that day may be a seasonal occurrence or dependent on other local conditions/regulations.
      See our first comment back to you a few moths ago for another definition of "fresh" when it to comes to a perishable commodity. As a matter of fact, many FROZEN perishable commodities are indeed considered fresh in some parts of the world and we already explained this to you - here is proof:
      ec.europa.eu/food/animals/animals-products-trade-imports/fresh-meat-domestic-and-wild-ungulates_en
      We've just shared OFFICIAL PROOF that in a major part of the world freezing, chilling and quick-freezing perishable commodities also means it is indeed still considered to be fresh and is legally sold/traded as such. So, it's entirely possible that Mexico has a similar stance and the vendors indeed sell shrimp that is fresh....according to the appropriate regulating agency in Mexico.
      Again, getting back to our first comment to you: Have you found proof that shrimp harvested in Mexican waters and sold in Mexico which has been stored above a certain below-freezing temperature and then thawed cannot legally be sold as "fresh" to consumers.?
      This means it's not at all inaccurate for us to consider, in our opinion, that the unfrozen and not spoiled shrimp we buy from these vendors is fresh - you can disagree with us all you want to.
      We hope this finally clears things up for you.
