Alex, I know you are just seeing the problem I have made myself. The winch being slow to recover vehicles and I don't like waiting weeks for my parts. are my only complaints. I am upwards of 65 or 70 recoveries when the winch broke, and had two problems. 1. I left the corded remote plugged in and on my bumper. Then I repositioned, cord and remote fell and ripped the cord and burned the solenoid up from the short. 2. This slip ring gear and engagement selector was worn after i thought i was pulling one truck out of the boggy mud. Then I discovered I was recovering two trucks at the same time. Ed my electrician repaired the winch for the ripped cord and bad solenoid. I did purchase a wireless remote. I filed the beveled edges down and put the winch back together made about another 15 recoveries or so no problems. Speaking of the trash. I thought for sure this is not a 25K winch. I was pulling on a tool truck and found this winch bringing 3 trucks to the tool truck 1 F250 and 2 F350. After we dug the front axle out we recovered the F550 tool truck. I believe some folks do over work their winch wanting faster recoveries, burning motors, electronics, and batteries. Winching is best described like base ball. 8 hours of waiting 4 minutes of excitement. I would like to hear your story as to why these are poorly manufactured, Thank you for watching.
@Not your Business I have to be honest. Many of these guys are using Apex “harbor freight” 12k winches with lots of success. I personally have no issues with my winch other than delays in parts and shipping.
@Not your Business Mate, you haven’t looked very far. Search Scintex or Sherpa 4x4 in any Australian 4x4 forum. Why are their UA-cam comments turned off? Look at their Facebook complaints, read through their google reviews. Questionable products and shady tactics. Not an very ethical company at all. I’m speaking from experience.
@Not your BusinessThis is my third winch after a Ramsay and a Premier. The metallurgy on this winch is rubbish. They are the equivalent of a cheap Chinese winch but are not cheap. Mine is currently on the bench in the garage waiting for a brush set after it stopped on it's second short recovery. The general quality is poor.
Cannot agree more. These winches are rubbish and heavy duty is a complete deception. Quality is so poor as to be completely unreliable. Do not waste your money.
Throw it in the bin mate. Sherpa is the worst of the worst. Wouldn't catch me dead buying this trash ever again.
