    Good video displaying the test parameters. The link provided all the info needed to make any purchase decisions. Overall I think the Sherpa did the best. Was the most consistent, low temps, low draw.

    Hate to be this dude but... purchased one after this review. Had winchs for 20 yr+ never had to many issues, runva xp 9.5.. well first of all installed it no issues. Im an auto ele so typical. After install gave all plugs good pull make sure they are safe, almost all of the crimpt fitings came apart. Had to cut recrimp 9/10 fittings. Then 2 months later went to use it no power. The motor housing was 90° out and the river crossings had corroded the engine and stator. Completely burnt out bushes, and fucked. Got in touch and seemed like they would help. Until the emails stopped. Was a terrible experience. After 5 runva winchs im done.

    You need to figure out if you want to do a spread for a magazine or put a video on YT! This is pointless as it shows no info or conclusions. Finding a news stand in this day with an Australian magazine here in the US would be akin to winning three lotteries all in the same day! You had a good topic and wasted my time by not actually doing what you advertised. Thanks a lot!

      @@BushyB9883 Yes pricing is all over the place on Warns and reviews for reliability ain't great. I fit a lot of Superwinch on Can-Ams.
      However I do like the way they have a cordless remote which which eliminate the drilling of holes into firewall.
      Here in New Zealand there's Runva and another Taiwanese / Chinese winch which is very reliable and preferred by mud plug people and very efficient.

    Your winch hook is upside down in the test. Always point hook up. If the hook breaks when hook point is up, it will shed the broken piece downward. They way you had it, the piece would go up and bounce off the load and back at you.

    Massive temp spikes, huge power draws, your top two seem more like they belong at the bottom. High current draw can kill batteries and winches and those temp spikes are mental.
    That is a extreamily poor scoring system you used to find the winner, sounds more like a paid for promotion.

    • @kalistaa1

  • @fourbypete

    So the winch that pulls further and uses the most power is the best? If it lasted the longest and required the least maintenance that would be winner in my book.

    • @johncanalese588
      @johncanalese588 5 років тому +6

      Yeh, can’t really understand this test, simply who pulls 5T load over 20 m the quickest! Not that the Runva isn’t a great winch but it pulled the most power from the battery and got hot. I have the Sherpa Mustang, sure it is low geared but it used 1/3 the amps of the Runva in the pulls, weighs only 19kg compared to 31kg for the Runva or 37kg for the TJM unit! So my 100Ah battery is going to last longer and electrics less stressed which is better real world scenario.

  • @HuntsT
    @HuntsT 3 роки тому +5

    I'm a little late to viewing this but. Maybe in Australia things are backwards. The first two winches to fail...were the two winners??? Winners of last place? I'm confused. Only the Sherpa pulled 7 times, wouldn't that mean it won the torture test?

    • @peterr2017
      @peterr2017 2 роки тому +3

      They pulled 7 times because it took them longer to pull the sled 20 metres. It's not that they pulled longer, the others just pulled quicker. More amps, more heat = quicker pull I'd say. If you want to get a bogged vehicle away from the sea then choose a fast winch. If you're not concerned with speed & want to give your electrical system a break then choose a Sherpa

    The set up for the pull was perfect and accurate but testing was crap nobody ever winches for 60 seconds and stop for 10 minutes.
    The true representation would be single pull to the point of failure
    First test at 5T and next at 6T,7T to the point that they can no longer pull.
    When you stuck in eg: ocean and tide is comming you going full speed or nothing!
    No point recovery if you DROWN you 4x4
    Amps and temperature is always secondary as you might be pulling under water or in middle of desert in summer! Amps are only consideration if your set up is wrong.
    Very good concept of test but unfortunately crap test without real world application 🤔

    Your opinion is that the best winch was the one that failed to pull on the last three starts? Never heard fo the Sherpa, but it was the only winch that made 10 pulls. it also notably was the coolest and drew the least current.
    Id say you guys have no concept of what a winch is for and about. The very last Winch Id choose is the least reliable one, and the most preferred one is the one that pulls the least current out the battery.
    The TJM Pulled furtherest overall, the Sherpa and Bushranger, pulled further than the Runva. In a dicey situation the last thing you want is a winch that "DIDNOTPULL"

    • @trd4d
      @trd4d 4 роки тому +2

      Actually, I believe they had a total pull of 20 meters. They ran for 1 minute, then took a 10 minute break. It took 5 pulls to get to 20 meters for some, and it took 7 for the Sherpa to get the full pull. But, it was pretty much the coolest, and their videos on sherpa4x4.com/au show incredible information.

      Exactly what we first thought too... but surprisingly it does...youll be suprised what even the thinnest bits of timber stop or deflect...youd be even more suprised to see what even thinner acrylic perspex also does in relation to bullets, scrapnel and RPGs! During Iraq, (previously classified info) many windows in vehicles got broken due to aircons failing, once repaired, glass was too hard to find and wouldnt fly in because of weight, so we advised DoD (Pentagon) install perspex after showing them ballistic testing we did in Australia. This is why we tell guys doing hard amoureds dont bother with the major heavy re-modding of doors for lamiplex or glass, go perspex, (well a special acrylic type we invented) 70% cheaper, 85% lighter, 50% stronger. 😊 (it saved 11 shooting incidents, (only ones reported) plenty of pics, BUT... couldnt quite stop 50bmg, but deflected. It actually ended up as a joke being Id rather be shot than use it where when was hit by a large cal, it scared the living shit out of everyone inside as sounded like a huge ied! Was like sitting inside a huge base drum, but was sorted by leaving small gap in window down.

    Дело в том что испытание при реальной нагрузке 5т сопряжено с множеством трудностей. например, должен постоянно рваться трос и его должно срывать с барабана. Чего мы не видим на видео. Кроме того под такой нагрузкой лебёдки должны были сгореть максимум на втором цикле.

      This comment was 3 years ago, so you've probably had your answer for 2.99 years already, but for anyone else: The general rule is 1.5x your full loaded weight should be your minimum winch size. Snatch blocks can make up for capacity, at the expense of speed. If I was on a budget, I would 100% pick the lower capacity and more reliable winch, over the higher capacity and lower reliability winch, and carry some extra snatch rings and soft shackles in the kit.

      Mark actually told you which Winch was the winner or most impressive and that was the Runva EWX9500 which is also the Champion EWX/Warrior EWX, that's funny how one of the Warns had issues,, I use the EWX Winch's because they were standard British Army Issue on Specialist Vehicles at one time.

      Wow 😳 finally someone that knows a winch! Just caught this video so sorry reply is sooo late. All China winches here with a few Thailand models. Besides the USA warns I guess but now ther global internals unfortunately. If it's not a Ramsey it's just decorative for your friends at the mall parking lot. No wonder they weren't invited to this party? Ramsey is 100% Tulsa Oklahoma. Difference between driving home and walking home ..

    I didn't understand why the use of the sledge with concrete blocks. How did they measure the tension in the cable?
    Only by lifting weights, knowing the precise weight of the i.e. concrete block, say 5000 lb could an accurate test be conducted.There is no difference in pulling or lifting,,, it is the tension in the cable that counts, whether that tension comes from dragging or lifting is irrelevant. How do you measure then tension in the cable by dragging ??? they didn't have a tension dial on the cables. I don't consider this a scientific test.
    Cheers,

    • @markallen435
      @markallen435 6 років тому +1

      We knew the weight of each concrete block plus, we used a meter to measure the sled pulling along the ground. It's all in the magazine article.

    • @zac8381
      @zac8381 3 роки тому

      Hate to be the bearer of bad news but when adding up all the measurements, not all the winches pulled the same meterage, which I'd let go if it was like point something of a metre... Furthermore it seems that you don't even consider the heat over time or the amps that are drawn in your final conclusion, just this one did it faster, this one's did it second best, here's our data you work it out. I'm sure I speak for a lot of people when i say we are after a little bit more expertise on the longevity and reliability of winches especially in a review.

      The whole point is to buy one and hope not to have to use it, I have owned the model that won for over 6 years, they also make a short Drum version that is used by the British military, and they are marketed as the Champion/Warrior S9500 and the Champion EWX9500SD, And in North America the are called the Warrior S9500 made by Atlantic British Ltd,, The Short Drum Military version has been copied by warn and call their 9.0 Rc Rock Crawler winch and they charge 6x the price for it, But the EWX is way better as this video shows.

    Need to show a true cross section of what winches people really use, not what the shops tell you they buy and do so by getting real sales data.
    Three of your "featured" winches I know many steer clear from.
    Just hoping you guys are not chasing the Action crew to the bottom of people shoes, becoming nothing more than hated s***.
    Buy your mags and followed you for a long time but this comparo only covers one brand from a 4x4 club of 70+.
    Hope you come back from this with your usual good research and articles.
