If I remember correctly, wasn't Neo twelve when he got to Troy? I know he trained to be a warrior from an early age, but that must be a pretty unpleasant experience still. Like imagine you're just twelve, you've been training all your life but you're still a kid, then they suddenly come to tell you that your father, who you never met, has died and you must go to avenge him. I feel kind of bad for him, just given the task to avenge a father he never met. I could even see him resenting Achilles for not being there and then being taken to avenge him.
I love how it started out epic then ended tragic. Though the end also raised the quote, “mercy to an enemy can not come at the cost of mercy for their victims.” It’s such a sad way to go.
I'm pretty sure it's meant to be the voice of Agamemon. In the original story, he was the leader of the Greek army and the one who chose Odysseus to chuck the baby off the Trojan wall as a "reward" of coming up with the idea for the Trojan Horse. Though, some tellings say it was a necessary sacrifice to return home to Greece. It was also very clear that the gods were against the Greeks in almost every way, Athena being the main exception because Odysseus was really smart, and she placed her bets on him.
@@sugargemstudios3361 It's meant to be Zeus. The eagle's cry, the thunder, the ethereal sounding voice, and the fact that (outside of Odysseus mentioning him during the briefing before the battle) Agamemnon isn't in the musical are give aways that it's Zeus.

@@mutantsandmemes fr💀the troy saga got absolutely mauled and im ambivalent about the new cyclops saga but i still like the old one a bit better i wish they couldve been left up
If only those fkn producers gave Jay and everyone else the royalties cuz honestly? The original Troy and Cyclops Sagas are superior to the rerecorded ones. Like I love Jay and I understand his reasons but...the new ones just don't hit the same.
What if, hear me out, he takes the baby home, and while he grows up tell him bedtime stories about the war -"so basically you're the son of the prince of a city I fought in a war against, and when we were storming the place and I found you and decided to adopt you" While the kid is little, he would have no urge to avenge place he's never seen or a father he doesn't remember. As he grows up he will be okay with all of it because he was always okay with it and he won't get mad at his adopted dad when/if the gods tell him because he would already know. The gods would be pissed (which is never good) but unless they blackmail him or something I don't think they can get him to take revenge when he doesn't feel wronged
I mean, I think we should take the factor that the war started partially because of Odysseus. I'm pretty sure that would be enough to upset the kid, or man if Odysseus didn't tell him - most likely because "Your homeland and your biological family are gone because of me" would really mess a child up. Plus the possibility of a conflict with Telemachus, a la "I'm his actual son" versus "And who did he get to read bedtime stories to, Mr. Abandoned while daddy was at war?", also adding that Telemachus would inherit the throne. So at least he'd be upset and, if there came the typical Greek tragedy coincidence, I can see a series of events leading to people getting hurt.
The gods will interfere- they always do. That’s what Zeus was threatening. Think about how much damage the gods have already done in the war? They just like drama. They would lie and manipulate the boy to hate his father, even if his adoptive father has been honest with him. Would the gods lie or his adoptive father? Who has a greater motive to lie? At face value, it’s would seem more likely his adoptive father would lie to him than the gods.
@@tarniabook3076 Hi, could you explain why the war is partly Odysseus's fault? I've always been told the main (or at least a big) reason the war started was because of Helen, whose only relationship to Odysseus's is that she's Penelope's cousin. I'd really like to know more.
@@nxzxdxnxzxdx8087 When Helen was going to get married, there were many suitors. To avoid possible disputes, Odysseus suggested all suitors swear to protect Helen's marriage no matter who the husband were. It was because of that promise all those kings went to rescue Helen in the first place, so in a way, it was at least partially his fault.
@@tarniabook3076 But wouldn't they have rescued her anyway? A quick Google search told me she was married to Menelaus of Sparta before eloping (or being kidnapped?) with Paris of Troy. Maybe the war wouldn't have been as important as it was but I think it would have happened anyway. PS: I am not trying to be rude or disregard what you said. Don’t get me wrong, this song is absolutely amazing and the whole musical is an experience and a half… But the plot of this song confuses me? Like, Zeus comes down and tells Odysseus “Hey, man, I’m gonna do you a solid. Y’see that baby there? You need to kill that baby or else he’ll grow up and take revenge on you for this whole war.” And Odysseus makes the very reasonable offer of “Yo, what if we just take the baby, put him on some farm somewhere, and make sure he doesn’t know where he came from. Then he’d have no reason to kill me.” Then Goose-Fucker Zeus is all like “Nah, cause, see, if you do that, we’ll just _tell_ the baby all about you and what you’ve done.” Like….. Bro, why? Aren’t you on Odysseus’ side? Isn’t that the whole reason you’re warning him about this baby in the first place? If you’re not on his side, why tell him about the baby at all?
I take that to mean the gods aren’t on anyone’s side. They’ll do what’s most entertaining for themselves. It’s entertainment to watch Odysseus compromise his morals. If he refuses then more entertaining for them to tell the baby who killed his parents and have him hunt Odysseus down. They don’t care about any particular mortals (except MAYBE their demigod children).
To add on to the previous comment, from my understanding it is believed that the gods and goddesses took sides during the battle of troy. While Zeus was on his side, there were other gods who weren't, so they would make sure that when the baby grew up the ones who sided with Prince Hector, he would know what happened yk?
