    AOTEAROA - (with English translation)
(Written by Stan Walker, Vince Harder, Troy Kingi & Ria Hall)
Te Reo Māori translation by Te Haumihiata Mason
No matter if you’re near or far
We come from the land of God
No matter where you come from
    We’ll fight for your freedom
    Nō tawhiti, nō tata
nō te whenua o te Atua tātou
    ahakoa nō hea mai koe
    ka whawhai tonu mātou mōu
    VERSE 1
I am the mountain, you are the sea flowing toward me
You are the river that runs through me, I am her she is me
Created from dust and sand, born to lead this land
Ko au tō maunga, tū tonu
ko te moana pari mai koe
ko koe te awa i taku remu, ko tāua anō tāua
nō te one i Kurawaka, hei tiaki i te whenua nei
Where we come from we were made to be strong
    Our legacy will carry on
And if a piece of home
    Resonates in your soul
    Your journey will take you
    Where you belong
    Aotearoa, he iwi kaha tātou,
he mana tuku iho mai anō
    whenua haumako
    wairua ora
    whāia tō ara
    ki te mutunga
    REPEAT CHORUS
    VERSE 2 (RIA HALL)
The heritage of this land is deep, we are it’s legacy
I am her warrior, I fight for thee, we have the victory
Born from blood and tears, I am stronger than fear
He kōrero tō te whenua, heke mai ki a tātou
he toa au mōna e oke nei e
    e kore au e hinga
    he uri nō te roimata
    te toto o ngā tūpuna
    e kore au e wehi ē
    BRIDGE (TROY KINGI)
We strive to move to our destiny
we practice more than what we preach
and if a piece of home resonates in your soul
your journey will take you where you belong
Kia kaha tātou ki tāu i pai ai
    Whakatinana, kaua e ngutu noa
    Whenua haumako, wairua ora
whāia tō ara ki te mutunga
    REPEAT CHORUS
(NZ NATIONAL ANTHEM - MAISEY RIKA)
God of Nations at thy feet
In the bonds of love we meet
    Hear our voices we entreat
    God defend our free land!
    E Ihowa atua
    o ngā iwi mātou rā
    āta whakarongona
    me aroha noa
    kia hua ko te pai
    kia tau tō atawhai
    manaakitia mai

Im From Chile, i had the opportunity to live in NZ for a year. This song makes me revive all the beautiful days that i had over there. NZ is amazing and there people make the country a lovely place that you never want leave anymore. Back home im not that happy as i was in the beautiful NZ. Be proud guys to have such a unique country where almost every citizen can live well, happy. I cant forget NZ and it would be my most deep dream to live forever there. Kia ora guys! Fuck off all those envy suckers that are talking bullshit. The have never felt what it means to live in the most beautiful country.

I have never been so proud! I'm not Maori, I'm cook island, however i was born and bred here in our beautiful small country and I like to think I am simply because I love the language, how they embrace their culture, the Maori art and everything else! This song just sums up a small part of what Aotearoa looks and is like! Beautiful nature, fresh, GREEN etc!! I'm so proud of this country, so proud that the culture is still very we'll ALIVE! I'm a Proud kiwi, and will always be no matter where I go! Aotearoa is HOME!
If you don't like our country then stuff you anyways! Haha Tihei Mauriora!!!!!! Churrrrr!

Nothing better than being told that I'm like Tangata whenua, I'm so lucky I come from a country where our people are so welcoming and a lot different than other countries, so blessed, gotta love how we respect each other (most times) especially our natives! Other natives from other places are a little unfortunate, but me, I respect our Maori, and all our people!

Maori portrayed in a spiritual way with nature and not the streets for a back drop.
We're all visitors to this land though. Aotearoa has been here since the beginning.

    [English lyrics]
    [Stan Walker]
No matter if your near or far
we come from the land of god,
    no matter where you belong,
    we fight for your freedom'.
I am the mountain you are the sea.
    Flowing towards me,
you are the river that runs through me,
I am her she is me,
    created from dust and sand,
    born to lead this land,
    [Troy Kingi]
Where we come from we were meant to be strong,
    Our legacy will carry on.....
and if a peace of home resonates in your soul
Your journey will take you where you belong,
    [Chorus]
No matter if your near or far
we come from the land of god
    no matter where you belong
    we fight for your freedom
    [Ria Hall]
The heritage of this land is deep
    We are its legacy
i am her warrior i fight for the...
    we have the victory
born from blood and tears i am stronger than fear...
    [Troy Kingi]
We strive to move to our destiny
We practice more than what we preach
and if a piece of home resonates with your soul
your journey will take you where you belong.
    [chorus]
No matter if your near or far
we come from the land of god
    no matter where you belong
    we fight for your freedom.
    Maisey Rika
    [NZ national anthem]
    [chorus]
    3X
No matter if your near or far
we come from the land of god
    no matter where you belong
    we fight for your freedom

I love this song. I am a Samoan and I have family in Aotearoa. Every single time I hear this song I have a connection with the Land and the Mountains in Aotearoa and even though I don't speak Maori but for some reason I felt like I was there before even though I have never been there. I love it.

I moved from the Waikato to Canada, NZ didn't hold much for me and moving was easy. In the year before I left I really got invested into Maori culture, I don't have any Maori in me but I have a lot of love for the culture. Every now and then I come and listen to this song and it's the only thing that gives me a slight bit of homesickness. I wish I had known Te Wananga O Aotearoa taught Te Reo for free years ago, I would have learned it. The language is sick and Canadians love it when you drop them a kia ora!

At last a song that celebrates the essence of my beautiful country.Tucked away at the edge of the world is Gods very own island, where people are the best, the most down to earth and brave hearts. Where all dreams come true and nothing is impossible to achieve if you are ready to work hard. I migrated to this great land ,nine years ago and every since then this is home and this is where my heart is. I am so proud being a Kiwi and even prouder that I can speak Te Reo. God bless our free land. Kia Kaha, Kia Toa, Kia Mangawanui.

Yves Brown I don't think you understand, but for Maori who have created the stereotype of not being a people of success. It's a massive achievement to finally see our people take the responsibility of leading the coming generation into a more positive light. Yes, New Zealand may be on the map. But like James Sigley said, they are putting AOTEAROA on the map.
